Hey thanks Todd. The floors have held up great the only difference from the day I put them down is the color has darkend and become more rich looking... I love them because a swifer cloth or the central vac and you're good to go the sand is gone... it is hard to find the time that is for sure. I try to do it on my down time at work (don't tell anybody)....LoL...

Here they are with the speaker on themView attachment 22768:smt038View attachment 22769
Very nice work and very robust speakers. These will sound nice.

So it will be a few days before I can start to apply the varnish but that's fine, the oil will be good and cured by then...

If you want to see how I have done my Teak I have an article on how it is done...

I'll keep you guys updated...

Yup on both sides of the boat are the mounts, but there was no ladder in the boat. If you come across one let me know. I did find a new one, but right now I was just holding off before I bought it. The new one does not line up with the current mounts. If you find a used one let me know. I am sure that it is less than a new one.

On another question on your finishing for teak. What you you do if the are wooden plugs that have to be added when you remount the teak? Do you just treat the plugs after you set them in?

James, Check your PM>>>

All the parts except for the Teak cup holder on the forward dog house was done while on the boat...

On the Cup Holder (sorry no picture) I machined some SS Plugs that fit in them in place of the old wooden plugs. It really gives a nice look and clean. I'll get a picture for you in Roughly 1 month 2 weeks 2days and 16 hours 34 minutes 18 seconds...

OK, who's counting any way?

I thought of doing it to late last time I was down at the boat. I think on the cup holder the metal standoffs are through bolted from inside the aft cabin if I remember correctly or hoping that is the way it is. If that is the case I taking it off from inside to solve that problem. The rest of the teak I think I am going to do it in place. I just went out and bough the tung oil and paint thinner tonight. I guess I added one more thing to my list of to-do before launch. I still 2 months away from splash!

OK, James check it out mine were attached with long screws under the wooden plugs... You will love the look of the varnished Teak with Tung oil

OK, Had a moment to do a quick first coat of varnish today....

Here's the pieces after the final coat of Tung oil. The top picture is what it should look like after it is scuffed. Shine is your enemy on this step... you want a completely dull surface...

Here's the color of the varnish. It is a subtle amber color on the tongue depressor.

Finally, first coat of 50/50 varnish... Looks great already right?

Looks good Jason! I still applying tung oil. The teak was so dry, it just sucked it right in. I forgot to get the varnish when I was at the marina this past weekend.

James, that is a good thing. The oil being absorbed into the wood means that the varnish will have a bite when you apply it. The natural oils from the teak usually interfere with this process and that is what causes delamination. The tung oil is able to coexist with the natural oil and gives it a foothold. Be sure to take pictures of your progress would love to see it... As I've said before be sure to give the end grains a healthy dose until you get to the point where it doesn't instantly disappear.

I just put a coat on and it is still wet. Once it dries I take a picture before I coat it again. Like I said it is just sucking this into the wood. As long as it is thirsty I am going to keep added it.

Today's progress...

I meant to add this earlier but for pieces parts like the steps it is important to wrap the coating around to the back side...

It will probably be a few days before I touch them again I'll keep you updated!

Finally, after 14 coats of tung oil mix 50/50 with paint thinner over 3 days, the teak finally stopped drinking it! Now for the next step! Thanks Jason!

That's going to be some pretty teak... You could of gradually increased the Tung Oil ratio after the initial 50/50 to 75/25 the 100% but wow James it really looks sharp!
