1989 340 DA Refit... Take a look

Rob,
I took some flack but I swear by my method and so does James!

Here's the link,
http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/51044-How-to-Varnish-Teak-The-Aftica-Way!

James,
Glad to hear you're liking the wood. Family is important. I don't know the money I've spent this year? I know I have enjoyed the boat and been out more with the new job then I ever did with the old. I can say this is my seventh season on the boat! When i bought her she was just shy of 320hours. After the last trip to the rendezvous I clicked over 620! So in 7 years of 6 months seasons I've burned through some fuel!

The best part?

I'M NOT DONE YET!

Enjoy the family and enjoy the boat...

Rob if you need any help let me know! I did the shower grate the same way and its different wood all together!

Jason, thanks for sharing your method. You showed great restraint in your response to Henry. In your explaination, you clearly said it was "your" way and even though you had excellent results; (according to Henry) since your NOT a professional you should not experiment with other methods. Actually, I didn't hear or see any of Henry's professional experiance, as far as I can tell he can read the can.

Sorry I don't mean to be rude, but Henry could have offered his words of wisdom and moved on. But he had to prove you wrong, which he didn't. Bad manners!

Rob,
Thanks. No hard feelings for Mr. Boyd. He was only voicing his opinion/experience and that is what CSR is about just giving good information to one another.

Hey guys,
Your boats look great! I have the express cruiser and have made similiar improvements. New headliner, allure wood floor, new bench seat in the cockpit, took off old pinstipes above rub rail and replaced the twin boot stripe with a solid black.
I will try to post some pics.

I Have a 1987 340 sundancer/Blue/white I also took off the upper stripes way nicer looking, Hey were did you get you headliner from? If i can ask how much was it? I need it, foam pad gave way.

I got it from Defender.com I am lucky since it is about an hour drive to them from my house. I bought 10 yards and used 8. The headliner cost me somewhere around $300 and 6 cans of heavy duty 3m spray adhesive. The link in my signature will bring you to the site. Getting ready to plan this winter's project so I move last years to here: http://1988sundancer.weebly.com/20112012-project.html

Well, Busy season for Aftica this year... Finally took some down time and got a few projects I've been putting off done...

#1 I purchased a Fusion AV-700 Stereo head unit. I must say I love this thing. Way cool features and It sounds wonderful through the new JL speakers.

#2 The Only problem I had with it is I couldn't connect Bluetooth. Solved that today as well with a Bluetooth receiver Mounted in the cubby.

Now I can stream music from my computer or from my cell phone flawlessly. Played with it all after noon and had an improve "DOCK CONCERT"

#3 Also, as previously stated I never had very good reception with my Head unit. I was instructed to try the Shakespeare FM antenna. Got It installed and hard wired into the new player.

Nothing to it other then Running the wire down the radar arch. What a PITA!!!!

#4 I had some "Wall Worts" for the new Bluetooth Receiver and the new wireless router (see #5) Nothing too it and it's hidden behind the slider in the cubby.

#5 Finally Installed a wireless router on Aftica. This is in preparation of the Fusion-Link software. I will be able to wirelessly control my stereo functions from my cell phone, iPod, or computer.

I still have a ton of upgrades that I want to do to my baby but my season is sadly coming to a close. Which is actually OK. I am so busy with school and the new job that having weekends free to concentrate on my studies will help a lot. I'll miss my boat but there is always next season.

Thanks Mark,

Pietro, YES!!! Thank god i've tried all kinds of stuff. I used to only get maybe a dozen stations now I get 50+ works wonders. I can even pick up stations from my home area which is 80 miles (128 km)away. So worth the $50 US. The only trouble I had was it was supposed to be a 15 foot cable it was more like 6 feet. I had to purchase a 10 foot extension cable which was more then what I paid for the antenna. Oh well it wouldn't be a boat without having to pay double what you should!

Pietro, Side note, How are you doing this year. Did you have a great season on Moon Child? I don't remember seeing much from you but I've been super busy as of late so I may have just missed it!

Great boating season this year, Jason!!! I'm using the boat more than ever... we had a wonderful season and it's not finished yet.

I had to replace my genny, but I'll be back soon about it....

Glad to hear it. Ouch, hopefully the genny isn't to bad. Enjoy the rest of the season and we need some more pics of your boat and surroundings!

Hey Pietro, you and Jason have two of the slickest retros afloat. I thought I was good getting the bilge pump installed then Jason posts this. Great job Jason, I truly would not know where to start with the media stuff. I'm still trying to get the Blackberry to synk with the laptop.:smt043

Bill, thank you... comparing Aftica to Moon child is definitely a compliment. Just takes time to network...

Back in the water... new battries and two new 50' eel power cords. Have a few more upgrades planned for this season...
Stay tuned!

Jason, what number 89 DA is yours? Mine is number 720. All the panels have DA720 written on them. Rusty Higgins told me they started each year at 500, so mine would have been the 220th 340 DA made in 89. Rob

749, learn something new every day... mine was built at merit island Florida. And originally delivered to Michigan.

That's cool and it's amazing how many of these boats they were building each year at that time. I believe mine was also built at the Merit Island plant and was originally sold in Dallas.

Well, it has been too long since I have posted anything that I am working on...

Here goes the short list for shopping items for this spring....

Just purchased the following for spring install...

1 JL Audio 10 IB sub
1 set JL Audio 1'' marine tweeters
1 set JL Audio 6.5 Components
1 4ga amp install kit
1 Kinetic 45amp 14v power supply
1 Digital distortion/ gain controller SMD DD-1 controller (if you haven't seen this thing check it out) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SOARCaGU47s
1 NMEA2000 Starter kit + odds and ends connectors and wires

assorted connectors box
200 zip ties

still to purchase
1 stand alone kinetic fully sealed battery

1 Garmin 741xs display.
1 Chirp transducer
assorted breakers and indicators

I am so ready to put some time into my baby again it has been to long. Come on warmer weather, although I don't think I will last that long and I will just have to plug in the heater to keep warm while I start my install.

Well, I haven't updated this for awhile and I've done a few add items so far this year.

1st off I added a 32" flat screen for the dash when we are dock side. We enjoy sports and movies so this was a great add on for us. It stores in the mid cabin with straps when we don't need it on deck.

2nd I finally have had enough and I replaced my delta galley faucet that has leaked since day one of owning the boat. I have rebuilt it several times and even swapped entire parts with a spare but it never really quit leaking. Well, this morning after doing dishes I had had enough...

OLD

NEW...

For anyone wanting to do this with out the ice maker the best way is to remove the two drawers in front of the faucet and do it by braille. If you have the same delta faucet. The port side nut is 9/16 and the other side is easier removed using an 1 1/4 inch deep well socket and an extra set of hands up top with channel locks turning the pipe that they older sprayer used to go through. I couldn't use a wrench because the hole was actually slightly recessed for some reason. It wasn't from pressure it was machined in that way. So thats it for now but be on the look out for the new shoe rack to keep the other half happy and to give us a place to keep all of the shoes.
