Had your Magma Newport for a while? What do you think about it now?

Yeah... "gourmet" food... fresh hamburger (1/3 pound patties), fresh buns, mushrooms, swiss cheese and a big tomato. That's real hard to find... i.e. "gourmet"
Yeah, What you have been displaying is "gourmet".
What do you think gourmet is, special food? No its meals with elaborate preparations and/or presentations, often quite rich courses. Meals made from scratch, i.e your fresh hamburgers. Just because its a hamburger doesnt mean it cant be gourmet.
Everything your making looks great, but i sure aint got the time or space to be doing what your doing on a sundeck with 10 people on board. But I will be using this grill on land too. Cant wait to try it. From what you are displaying i will be using it on land a lot. I will have to get the hook up for bigger tank....

You two should make cookbooks.

One for the Solaire, one for the Magma.

The main difference would be the Solaire cookbook would not contain the words "Velveta" or "can opener"

Skip told me I should have been in the military so I would cherish Bubba Burgers.

Well just pulled the plug on a new Solaire. Soon I will have a Magma Newport, or a semi new Solaire for sale. I sure won't need both. Any one maybe intrested in a Newport give me a pm.

Don't forget Four Winns grilled corn, that looks good too. I did that last week on my Magma, works great, but not as good as Four Winns grill marked corn.

I'm not sure I liked the crunchy corn, on the magma it cooks perfect, did you peel the husk back to get it like that? The tuna on the other hand looked pretty good. But I think the tuna on the magma comes pretty close. I made some a few weeks ago, should have taken pics, next time...

The only problem I see with the Magma so far is that the 1 lb tanks only lasts a little over an hour (at least on the Monterey). I was thinking of getting a bigger tank with a hose, but I'm not sure if I am comfortable with that.

That would suck. The Newport gets several hours.

I have been wanting the newport since last year and I just noticed that they came out with the infrared model and thermometer on the newport.

Maybe this would be better then the newport without? I dont know whats the difference....

I am gonna look into the solaire grill, but not sure if i want to spend that much....
Be aware that Magma has Infrared models now but they still have the heat plate above the eliment. I have not used one but this would defeat the purpose of direct Infrared cooking. I would expect that there would be more evenly distributed heat. That is good. You will likely still have the flare ups and they could be worse. So . . . if you have flare ups, dont spray water as you will likely ruin the infrared heating eliment. The reason the Solaire has little or no flare ups is the drippings are simply vaporized by the Ceramic infrared eliment.

No matter what the pros and cons are this has to be some improvement for the Magma.

I didn't get to grill this weekend due to thunderstorms. My duely magmas are ready though. I've got 15 1lb canisters (they were on sale so I bought them out).

The Solaire works just fine in the rain.... in fact... the rain evaporates in the air when it gets about 3 feet from the grill.

They should install one over Seattle.

Just ate the best meal in my life last night. Fresh grouper cooked over a Newport.

Well, i received my Solaire anywhere yesterday and grilled my first burger a little bit ago. I have to say, I definitely expected it to be hotter, which is a good thing. Its not unmanageable like i though it was going to be. So far I really like it and I impressed with it for being a small portable grill. I just ordered the adapter hose from walmart so i can use the 20lb jugs of propane. The only thing I think that I would change is the handles to some nice solid SS round handles. So far i am very happy with my decision....

Recieved mine on Thursday, cooked up a few filet's last night and was very impressed. The heat is very manageable and they came out perfect. Chared on the outside and nice and pink inside. It's going to the boat tonight and the Magma is coming home to sell.

What are your plans for mounting the Solaire, did you either of you purchase the rail mount?
