Month Long Chesapeake Bay Cruise on 480 DB/Four Suns

I'm starting this thread to share some of the highlights from our month long cruise around the bay. You'll have to be a very bored person to follow this but I thought I should document this some place for my defense in case I throw one of my children in the drink after being in close quarters with them for a whole month. I'm sure the moderators will shut me down after my second post. Our crew consists of my wife and I, 4 boys ages 8 to 16, and two Golden Retrievers that have to pee every 3 hours.

The cruise will take us from the southern bay to the northern bay and our stops will include (but not limited to) Solomon's Island, Rock Hall, Fairlee Creek, Havre de Grace, Annapolis, St. Michaels, Oxford, Cambridge, Urbanna, Onancock, and Baltimore. Our longest stay in one spot is Annapolis for a week where the kids will be taking sailing lessons for 5 days at the Annapolis Sailing School. I will also be visiting Jim over at BOE Marine and demanding my burgee as I know he has them and is holding out for a higher price.

We made it up to Solomon's Island from Williamsburg, VA at the end of last week and yesterday we ran from Solomon's Island to Rock Hall. We are staying here until Thursday and they brag the fireworks display is going to be the best of the bay this year (yeah... ) and so we will go anchor out with the crazy people tonight and check that out. We had dinner at a little patio place here at the Haven Harbour last night and made the guitar player try and sing "If I had a million dollars" by the Bare Naked Ladies... he did pretty good... He couldn't do the Spice Girls though...

Here are a few pics:

Yeah that’s what I thought. Listen, learn, ask and recognize who knows there sh*t, pay attention and re-read every g*d d*mn thing you read.
Many of us here have tons and tons of boating experience. I do, but read any of my posts from the last year and you will clearly see that the boats and systems that I’ve been exposed to are limited. I’ll comment on things I know and suggest to things I believe may be an issue, but clearly there are many more here that I listen/read to and learn from. I’ve been boating my entire life and if any of you want to come West and go for a boat ride I’m all in, just PM me. I know my area and the nature of boating and where to go like the back of my hand, but since I’ve found SRO (now deceased for similar reasons) and now CSR do I really feel much more confident in the efforts I instill into my boating and the reason for that is guys like Frank W, Frank H, FC3 and Gary + a few others that question erroneous statements, WAGs, ignorant suggestions and completely cut and pasted BS found somewhere on the internet or other “how to sink my boat” websites.

The point is……………….. We have some very seasoned and tested advice + a sounding board here that is unequaled. If some of the rotten eggs here can’t handle a little sarcasm, detailed ridicule to filter the sh*t and decide to ruin it for the rest of us that is sad. Grow up, be a man and realize that Gary’s sarcasm and political stances (whether you agree or not) is part of the reason a website/forum like this works.

It’s difference of opinion, experience and attitude. Adjust

Long live the First Amendment and the right to free speech.

America has lost its way, sanitizing and pasturizing all of the great differences of our citizenry into one giant streaming Target commercial of shiny happy and oh-so-boring goodness.

It seems the "tribe has spoken" here and we like the expertise and the spice provided by Gary and others like him. Even if it comes with a dose of the gorgeous mosaic of their personalities, mild - medium - hot or five alarm.

We need to make sure to quash the efforts of "thin-skin" members who desire to force feed us with pharmaceuitcal-grade personality regulators.

If this forum choses to control speech with some kind of robotic algorithm designed to asses infraction points that unduly sanitzes and pasturizes the learning and debate we all crave, then I for one, would be happy to rev up my feet and drag my valuable eyeballs over to Gary's new haunt.

Gary is what makes CSR, CSR. I no longer own a Sea Ray, and rarely post, but I sure do lurk. I come here to gain knowledge about boats, and take in what I can from off topic posts about business, the economy, humor, and Gary's sarcastic humor.

Reading his posts have taught me much, even about stuff I probably don't need to know, but is nice knowing. His blog and posts about trips are very interesting.

FWIW, I'm on four boating boards. If I had to pick only one, and get rid of the rest, I'd pick CSR. That's picking CSR over my brand specific board for my boat.

That says a lot.

Robski97: I don't think it's too much to ask that contributors, even the really good ones, treat others with respect. I suspect everyone here is capable of sharing great advice without dragging the discussion to the level of a fraternity party.

P.S. My comments above are not directed at Gary

Respect has to be earned. It is not given. That would be false respect known as patronizing. The ones who get slammed are the ones who do nothing to earn respect.

Agreed. Add in "robotic application of the rules by the moderator(s) with no human judgement applied."

You know who I mean.

Best regards,
Frank

It's a bit amazing when folks overlook good knowledge and real world experience and complain when their little feelings get hurt. Whatever happened to just moving to the next post? I wish I had been able to see the urinal picture before it was taken down - let me guess - it was Kearney. So - if we're going to give someone their own section - give it to Bill. Make it the only section he can get to.

Exactly, so if you treat people respectfully you will earn respect.

Who are you referring to about robotic application of the rules? i would really like to know. That's simply not the way its done here. Please give me some examples too. Perhaps you can start with the picture that Gary put up here of the b u l l s h i t meter. No profanity is allowed, just as a respectful person wouldn't spout out profanity in front of a public group of people.

I agree 100%. It is amazing when people let their feelings get hurt. Hopefully Gary and the others defending personal attacks will get over it. He is allowed to post basically whatever he wants, and be as obnoxious as he wants. One obvious personal attack with a picture gets deleted and then all this happens.

Gary's posts are always a great read. Sometimes they can be gruff and sometimes they contain a wealth of pure knowledge. Regardless of which, they are always entertaining.

One thing i know, is that the PLUS points he adds to this forum far outweigh the MINUS points he may garner. Keep up the good work Gary!

Its not im defending personal attacks but some people just deserve what they get ... If kearney was the PEE-ON guy ... heck just do search for guys posts... that sums that story right there.... The b/s meter was pretty funny ... U cant cater to the minority. The majority has to have its say ur they will just find another forum. So u have to be careful the line u draw. Too many boundires and a mutiny might occur.

My 2 cents

Rob

What makes this site great is the advice and the personalitites. That is why I log in every day. BTW, I'm a paying member, are some of the complainers?

When did everybody become so thin skinned and PC? It amazed me how the offended ones cry fowl and run to the mods. You can put a picture of me in the urinal if you want...that's funny. I play cards with freinds every week and we verbally jab each other all night.... it's a great time. Remember shows like Welcome Back Kotter???

Now every kid on a team has to get a trophy so their feelings don't get hurt. It's making for a weak country.

I dunno. I think there is another criteria for getting slammed: That criteria would be publically disagreeing with group consensus,

I agree. Get over it people. There really is a difference between being "politically correct" and "having boundries".

This is not a black and white choice here. We are not being presented with a choice here between "Ultra-Liberal-Nobody-Gets-Hurt-Feelings" and "Speak your mind openly". No. . this is not a black and white issue.

Clearly, clearly, the moderators on this board allow ALOT of obnoxious crap to stay on the board. Being called a moron on this board is routine. Sarcasm is a tool of choice. Crude pictures (i.e. Depends Brand Speedo) are commonplace. No. . .clearly the moderators allow this to be a pretty open free-for-all.

Yeah. . . they post a few limits. Gross personal attacks and profanity are out of bounds. Is that so unreasonable? Nobody is preventing the correction of incorrect technical information. Moderation is not black and white. There is a balance to be struck. On balance, the moderators let people get away with ALOT.

And Gary was NOT banned. He was NOT restricted in his posts. Heck. .. he has posted in this thread. He got a "soft" warning or two for pushing the limit. And it was soft - - -no public admonishment. No restriction. Just a notification that he was pushing the limit. Have a beer and get over it.

I support the tone and direction the moderators are taking.

Ok. . .you can all call me a moron now.

It's time for me to get to work and be insulted in a professional setting :smt021

Have a nice day everyone.

Well said. You can disagree with someone's opinion; hell, they can even be flat-out wrong- but it's in "how" you say it that matters.

I got fifty bucks that sez this goes to twenty pages...

Agreed, +1

I do not think starting a reply with "You are an idiot", "You are stupid", "You are wrong", etc is going to put you in favorable position to debate or offer your opinion, even if it's a good opinion. There are plenty of respectful ways to tell someone you think they are wrong and/or are passing along bad information.

Debate and challenge all you like, it's healthy and good for a forum, but do it respectfully and know when to take it offline.

Note, this is not directed at Gary or anyone else here and it's just my opinion.

Another vote for Gary! This place would not be the same without his advice and humor.

I don't think 30 points is gonna be enough for him, though. Can I donate some of mine to him?
