Where"s gary ???

I think most know where I stand with pee head.

Well another user complained about it. I must say, if somebody I was publicly at odds with posted a pic of me in a toilet I would be freakin fuming. If somebody I was friends with posted it I would think it was funny. See the difference?

Before anyone makes any assumptions, here's the facts and what is going on.

I did get two 10-point infractions (20 points) for various things over the last few days. According to the rules and the "not so nice" emails that come with those, I am one infraction from having my access restricted...

This is where I'm coming from. Jim and Wes are nice guys and have their hands full dealing with the personalities here on CSR. It seems there is a collection of "members" that are like PETA members standing on a street corner just waiting for me to "say something" so they can whine about it and call foul. I've been told a bunch of people have it out for me. For example, I posted a Racor petcock thread this weekend about lessons learned from a real install and air intrusion but I got some nasty email about using a made up term of "Obamanufacturing". So... I deleted it. Not just the word... but the post. I've also have been going through and removing some of the controversial stuff so life can be easier for Jim and Wes. I'm not going to go through all my posts and make sure they are "politically correct" for people that just like to complain about stuff. I don't think I insulted anyone with this post:

http://clubsearay.com/forum/showpost.php?p=149309&postcount=2

Wait... come to think of it... that post did upset some people because they use a hose on their outdrive and have never had a problem and don't see why they can't tell a guy with a big diesel it'll work for them....

There just seems to be an ever increasing crowd of "I should post and give advice because it makes me feel good and no one should call me on it." Some of the information given by these people is just wrong... but... that's probably the nature of Internet forums. I think they become unstable after a certain size....

Am I harsh? Yes... sometimes... I had an old boss once tell me coming to me for help was like using a corn cob to wipe his ass... it worked but it sure did hurt. Oh well.. sorry about that. I'm not politically correct.

There are some good people on this board... no... some great people... and some are my friends that I physically see on occasion... but there are the few that are just a pain in ass and find me as a target now. The "PETA crowd".

I need to work on finding a format that works for me and doesn't create havoc for other people... I'll let you all know how that goes.

Thanks for the compliments... and I really did think the urinal picture was funny. It's a real bitch to get double sided tape to stick in that thing.

Thanks Gary......I enjoy your knowledge and in fact have helped me out on a few minor issues......I really thought you were holding a Obama sign on the corner of Main Street!

Most of the complaints from the PETA members are ignored due to all of the above, some get your humor, some don't. I get it. I also never have run-ins with people online like you. You have definitely put that big target on your back all by yourself. Can you imagine the pics that would have followed if one of a guy in a toilet would have slid on by? We have our hands full is right, and most of the time there is no right answer for any particular situation, we'll get "pissed on" (pardon the pun) for however we react.

Gary:

I love your humor and consider you one of the most knowledgable folks on this board. I also consider myself to be your friend.

I hope to receive an invitation when you get that 'other' format up and running.

And in case anybody doesn't know, there are like a thousand settings behind the curtain on this forum software. Gary is one of those people that always pushes the limits and probably makes this forum better place because of it. For example, now posts can't be edited after an hour. So make sure you get it right the first time. Everybody is so concerned about the knowledge that a user brings to the table, that can only be evaluated by the users prior posts. So if a user can go back 2 months later and put in the "right answer" then it is not a very accurate way to build a rep. This is what everybody seems to want.

This format does work for you, and you are the best at it, period…. Don’t leave because some corn hole (insert infractions points here) can’t take a joke…. You know what the say about “fill in the blank“ them if they can’t take a joke.

Can someone explain to me how you can clean you ass with a corn cob? I think my standards might be too high.

How about if we create a whole section dedicated to Gary. It can be 100% governed by him in whatever format he wants. Call it G-Dock.

Fantastic

Gary

I wouldn't know you if you walked up to me and bit me on the end of my..........nose, however, keep up the good work. You're a straight shooter and I like that. Piss on anyone else. (pun intended) You don't get to be a successful business owner if you cannot quickly detect BS when it appears. If you posted a photo of me in a pisser, I would post a photo of you in the crapper and call it even.

If people here give crappy advice (pun intended), then they need to be taken to task for the crappy advice by those of us who might be more informed. Period. End of conversation. The folks here have a lot of money tied up in their equipment and deserve the best advice we can collaboratively offer.

Jim
Great web site. I am glad you get Gary's humor. The "PETA" types might be better off taking their complaints to a boating website where someone gives a crap (pun intended). People who do not pay attention when they have been shown they are wrong and continually give crappy information, should be asked to leave the forum, the same as what I would do with an employee engaging in similar behavior. Just because this is the Internet doesn't mean that every moron can show up and profess to be an expert by giving poor advice to others without being called on it.

I have watched some of this happen and kept my mouth shut, unusual behavior for me, by the way, but I am getting tired of seeing a guy crucified for calling someone's bluff for giving out the wrong poop.

I don't go to places where people don't like me. Maybe some of the folks here might consider doing the same.

I am now climbing down off MY soapbox.

I won't speak for any of the guys with extensive experience in cruising, buying, and maintaining boats. I speak for myself and if you wish to assume parallels, that's your business.

Gaining knowledge is not cheap, painless, or easy. What I know about boats and boating has taken me decades to accumulate. I've taken things apart, repaired them, and reassembled them. I've read thousands of pages of articles, stories, and books on these topics. I've studied the OEM's manuals. I've bought and stored tons of data, tools, and parts. I've run boats in good weather, crappy weather, and weather where everyone else was tied to the dock. All of the experience gained I've given away to other forum members for free. Had I published it as a book, a series of magazine articles, or as a newsletter, I probably could have made a few bucks.

I don't ask anything for it. But on the other hand, when the whining, complaining, kvetching, and crap become too much, I'm taking my marbles and going home. Or setting up my own site. Whatever.

You can have whatever kind of forum you want. If you want a nicey-nicey one with political correctness, lace doilies, and pretty talk, that's fine. But that's not my idea of fun. And it might not be other people's idea of fun, either.

Best regards,
Frank

Well I have read many of Gary posts and even as a very low posting n00b I e-mailed Gary a few times to ask his advice. To me I could pretty much tell he knew what he was talking about just from his posts. I joined to learn, but that is just my personal philosophy, learning. There are also a few others on the forum, which at times may come across as gruff. But who cares. If their answer makes sense and points me in the right direction, that is all I care about, the information.

I would rather learn all I can about boating, navigating, maintaining my boat and how to do it right then be concerned with some whiney boo-hooing. I also do not subscribe to the PC mantra so in vogue in today’s society.

I mean it when I post this on occasion, too many people are not only physically lazy, but are mentally lazy;

“Purposeful ignorance and mental laziness, the world's two most deadly maladies, at least stupid people have a defense which the others cannot say they have.”

I think Gary would prefer.. "Yes we can America!"

I am just catching up on all of the events of the day. It always seems to get interesting around here when I am away. Gary is a respected member around here and I think it was Dom who said he considers him a personal friend and I agree 100%. That said there are times where Gary pushes the envelope a little too far (maybe provoked into doing it, but he does it). That said we still have to follow the rules of CSR. I personally hope Gary hangs around.
