Got to be more to it than that! :smt009

that was sort of brutal in my opinion for someone to walk right in to.... I remember thinking this guy will have to have some REALLYYYYYY thick skin to last with that sort of first post welcome. Sorry to hear he didn't.. :smt009

Seems more like PMSing someone about how you feel. But whatever. Probably the same for the panties in a wad crowd.

So if a new member joins CSR, one who has tons of knowledge related to his/her boat and/or the industry, makes a post or replies to a post, and is immediately told he/she is ignorant, stupid or wrong <insert your favotie negative phrase/word here>, decides this is not a good home for him/her based on the negative replies and never comes back, this is OK? From the responses I read here I am hearing it is OK because he is weak.

Maybe he/she is not weak. Maybe he/she is new to forums, new to then internet, perhaps a little old school if you will and just doesn't get the wit, the challenge, the negative stuff and probably never will. This person does not have the history everyone else has and cannot quickly see the humor or the fun in a off-topic negative reply. It's OK to applaud the CSR member who replied with sarcasm/wit/humor and let a valuable resource walk away?

I share this as this is exactly what happened to a good boating friend of mine with his first reply. I encouraged him to join and quite honestly I was embarassed with the way he was treated with his first reply. This man has helped me more times than I can remember. He's been in our bildge, in the water under our boat, helping without asking many times. He is the kind of soul that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He would have added a lot of value to this forum. But because of the voice of a few, and the applauding afterwards, he walked away. I actually found myself apologizing to him.

It took him all day to figure out how to join, not an internet savy guy. I put him in touch with Jim for assistance. Jim got him going and he WAS very excited.

He owns a Sea Ray, I introduced him and yes the post was valid IMHO.

Please reference the thread with a valid link.

I think this is the post MrsRobinson is referring to, not need to ask three times Frank, took me a little time to search, my robotic hands are slow today:

Greg
I think it was the classic Newbie's First post. No info on what boat he has.
Then he asked a question about something that could have 4587 different configurations. Hey until you get used to being on a fourm it's an easy mistake and it seems like most rookies do it. So, since Wesley has the "Advice for new members" and
and CSR Rules and Regulations
Both politley state...please become familiar with them...

When the regulars are greeted with the Self- introduction with none of this info, I think it's an appropriate way to initiate the new member. I'm always nice to tell someone "Welcome aboard" but more than not also have to remind them to fill out their signature. When they poist shortly after that with questions like your friend, it's more humorous than mean. It's a good 'ol ribbin'.
Once they get it that they didn't supply enough info like the other masses have done 3285 times, they usually understand

Ironically Frank 3 was the one who gave him the advice he sought.

11 Pages and no mention of popcorn yet. Crap, I just said it...

Forget it....

Greg, You are expecting too much from some of the respondents. On all BBs there are people in the mix who are bright and who have somewhat limited people skills. Some of their responses even sound a little sociopathic. Who knows what hang ups these folks suffer from. Many are angry or immature, and most of them are unhappy for various reasons real and imagined. Are they offensive? Sure, but it's the Internet and it is what it is. Don't sweat the bad behavior and passive (and even open) agression. Frankly, their responses are interesting, certainly not admirable and not worth getting excercised over.

But then some of us are sitting around out here waiting for a real question about a real boat to come up...........

This stuff about popcorn, pancakes, what song was playing when I was born, was I a boy scout, and what I had for lunch today, while amusing, is about as boring was watching paint dry.

HEY! What's so ironic about that? Did you expect BK to give him Sea Ray advice?

Best regards

Note to the ill-informed. BK is Burger King.
Thank you

That was a little harsh and it was funny that FC3 actually answered without some sort of jab. I remembered thinking it was a bit of a basic question for someone that is supposedly so knowledgeable. Perhaps that's why he was pounced on so quickly?

A VOTE FOR GARY and all other individual thinkers.

Oh crap reading this string makes me sick. Here we are on the edge of a pandering, pc, US and now my haven, my place for relaxation, fun and humor with mostly like minded participants is being infiltrated by a few folks who can't handle criticism or a few off color remarks. I'll vote for G-Dock if G-Dock is the entire forum. I am tired of the catering to everyone else.

If someone doesn't like what is being said here, go somewhere else. You are not forced to participate here. There are lots of forums on the web that I don't like. Guess what? I don't participate. I don't start whining to admin about it. I just leave.

I'm sorry this incident made Gary go back and re-think some of his posts. I don't always agree with what Gary posts and have at times found his comments a bit rude but mostly I find them informative. At very least funny.

I hope that this kind of junk is not the future of this forum.

No I think it was inferred that you're one of the "Pouncers" to those that ask a question without the proper info. I know you know your stuff Frank but when Wes supplied the link to Greg's friend getting "pounced" on, you were the one answering his question.

BK= Burger King ......uh huh.

$5 to the first person who can guess what song was number one when Frank was born.
