How far do you have to drive to your boat?

First time chiming in...but every weekend we drive nearly 3.5hrs assuming light traffic. It sounds worse than it is. We have a home on the lake where the boat is docked and typically leave on Thursday night or early Friday morning through Sunday. The traffic from the St. Louis area westbound to LOTO can be very hectic, but we avoid that and start with a stress free weekend. We used to weekend on a much smaller Monterey. We're usually so excited to get to the lake that the 3-4hr drive is a non-issue.

For the two of weekending on the old boat worked out well. However, with the number of friends and family that come for weekend visits it was just too cramped. We bought the house on the lake 3 summers ago and it's been great. Usually once every other weekend we'll take a cruise and spend the night on the boat. Unfortunately this means I don't maximize the boats full potential being on a lake. Realistically, a large open bow would suit our needs better and give us more useable space but I can't bring myself to do that.

I win (maybe lose). I'm just a little over 8,000 miles away. 32 hours door to door. Chiayi, Taiwan to Cleveland, Ohio. I get there once a year. Why am I happy? Because the next visit is the 21st of this month and I'll live aboard until 19 August.

1 hr 50 minutes for us. A couple things were key to us to make it work best.

1. Leaving Friday morning (or Thursday night) makes it much more tolerable to me. Less feeling like as soon as you get there it's time to come home. Return home Sunday afternoon / night.

2. When we had a 260 and later a 300 and the boat was rack stored it wasn't as good. Couldn't stay on the boat at my home marina so that meant a trip was needed to overnight somewhere and you had to work your hours around when they could rack and unrack the boat. Being in the 390 and staying in the water means we can arrive and depart late and extends the weekend.

Just our experiences and things to consider. We could keep the boat 45 minutes from home but the FL east coast boating (around Melbourne) doesn't compare to gulf side boating.

How far is the dock where your boat is parked? If we buy im looking at appx 2 hour drive to pt pleasant NJ. Im in NE PA...:smt089

45 mins/ 37 miles :smt009

0 hrs,0 minutes. We keep the boat at our house on the lift. It is a 150ft walk down the dock and we take Fridays off as well. Intercoastal Waterway in Belhaven, NC.

We are from Melbourne/Palm Bay and don't think I could boat in that area either. Good choice.

My wife has timed it....
When I say "I am leaving now"....
She knows it should only take SEVEN MINUTES to walk in the front door.
Nice to be soo close most of the time.

About 15 miles, cross the Island from north to south, I pass it on the way home so i'll stop in and say hello (to the boat not the people) .

5.5 Hours by car, 1 hour by plain. Close to 400 miles, I think. Is that crazy?

We're around 4 miles away, 3 miles of which is highway. It takes me about 8 minutes but I can cut that down to 6 if I make all 3 lights. I usually get to the marina every day that I'm not travelling on business.

Yeah, 2 hours isnt that bad..
We have 2 homes in Greece right by the water. One in Athens and one in Galaxidi... I was thinking of just having one there, but we only get to go once a year for 2-3 weeks..

Would definitely do If I make it to retirement so I can enjoy..but getting a boat here in the states would be obviously more sensable now...Gosh I loved just walking to the beach..

I'm about 9 minutes unless I miss the one traffic light on the way... then it'll be an 11 minute trip. lol
Yep, pretty close!

I know some that drive 6+ hours each way and never miss a weekend, that's dedication. I am right at 100 miles, 2 hours drive which is not bad. The thing about this is we are commited for the weekend so it is more like a mini vaction each trip. Been doing at 20 years so it is automatic and goes quickly.

50 miles, not a bad mostly highway. When we had in-out service with the last boat we were doing that two - three times a weekend. It has been great spending the nights on the boat at the marina.

My commute usually takes 2 games of cribbage........depends on the winds........if the winds aloft at FL 410 are good, then it's 1:15. If the winds are lousy, it takes +15min max. jet is 3 min from my PA house and boat is 15 min from airport on Johns Island in SC.

We are only about 25-30 minutes from Wilson NY on Lake Ontario. Its all rural driving so you get behind the occassional slow poke sometimes.:smt089
