How far do you have to drive to your boat?

We were about a 25 to 30 minute drive but moved the boat farther away and it is now about 50 minutes. I would rather drive the car farther than the boat! I was using way too much fuel to keep it closer to home. Now that we are in the middle of the Delta we have burned a little over 1/4 tank in 2 months where before it would be a full tank every 2 months!

Henry, I think you win!

Right now it's 220 miles and 4 hours to the boat while it's being commissioned in Portland, OR. In two weeks, once it gets to its home slip it will be 6 miles. That's about a 10-12 minute drive.

360 miles and a 6 hr drive.

if we had the proper permits, we could float the yampa to the green then to the colorado.
i heard there is a 7 year waiting list to get a permit though.
and it would take a couple of weeks or longer to get there.

Originally my boat was 4+ hours away and I made it once or twice a month for a day or two. This season I moved to about 45 mins away and make it several nights a week and just stay there rather than home. It's a short commute to work in the morning and being able to stay on the boat at night is well worth the drive. I wouldn't want it more than an hour away.

I have a friend with his boat in Miami FL which of course requires a flight (about 6 hours port to port for him) but he seems to like it that way. He goes one to two long weekends a month and seems like a new man each time he returns. I suppose that flights are now so cheap from our area that it might make sense since the water there has some significant advantages. Each time I ask him when he's bringing it up north and he just smiles and says we'll see. Somehow I think we'll never see that boat up north again.

How far is the dock where your boat is parked? If we buy im looking at appx 2 hour drive to pt pleasant NJ. Im in NE PA...:smt089

0 miles, we dock our boat at our home, not far from Point Pleasant, NJ... We make the same drive you make in the summer, in reverse in the winter, to ski in NE PA... If you plan on driving 2 hours each way to your boat, and you don't have a home to stay at, you might want to think about getting a bigger boat... Not sure what year 240 DA you are looking at, but there are quite a few great deals on 90's 330s and '00-'02 340's... Buy the biggest boat you can afford, and save yourself the cost of moving up after one year...

1 1/2 hour. Nice ride goes by quick. We are there every fri.,thru sun. and sometimes sneak-in a thurs. or mon. I have gone down for 1 day also.

You guys think the 260 is too tight to sleep in over night?
I didnt think going as old as a 00-02..

We drive 86 miles, about 1 hour and 45 minutes. We seldom miss a weekend on the boat, Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Recently we have been going up on Thursday night and the admiral stays over on Friday and enjoys the marina and I do the 80 miles back to work Friday morning. But on Friday night we are there early as compared to going home and packing up to leave.

For 10 years we were 30 min. from our slip at Perry lake. We bought another boat this spring that was on the Mississippi river in Iowa. Our plan was to do some boating on the river and then haul it back to Kansas. We have decided to keep it on the river for the rest of the year, maybe much longer. We have a slip at a very nice marina on the Il. side, Two Rivers marina. We like having the the ability to cruise to many destinations up & down the river. So we have went from a 27 mile drive to a 250 mile 4 hour drive. We now spend several days at a time on the boat, boating on the river is a completely different boating experience and worth the drive.

We tow ours 1hr to the Chain O Lakes in Fox Lake because of the locks to get to the upper river from the lower river can some times take 2 to 3 hours each way. If we want to do local it's 1/2hr to the river in Algonquin. We usually spend the night or two like we did this weekend I sleep in the mid cabin and my wife sleeps in the V Berth. If we want to go to Lake Michigan it is 1.5 hrs and the Illinois River is about 2hrs. I would love to do the Lake Of the Ozarks but that is about 12 hrs.The boat is always in the drive way if work and cleaning is needed.

Yacht Club is 1.5 miles form the house, but in the summer I rent a slip at the coast and use it on weekends. 45 mile drive there. Back home to the Yacht Club after Labor Day.

15 minutes on a bad day. We live on it all season and commute from our boat to work! Go home to check mail/laundry as needed.

30 minutes, and come Friday after work, that's about 29 minutes too long!!!
