The big old 80's 340 owners thread

Just looking for fun things to do this winter.....

Beyond the large zinc on the transom, the two on the trim tabs and the two on the prop shafts, I'm guessing that I should have at least 3 more zincs.
The two main engines and the generator. Additionally, the mains are freshwater cooled. Would there be additional ones?

I have the info for the zincs that are external to the hull, does anyone have any additional info?

Don't sweat it Jim,

For us northerners, it's the end of the season.
This time of year when the grey matter turns to tapioca :smt101

Just a little rant about how excited I am to finally get my hulk pulled out and some cosmetic work done after owning for two years. Initially just for a bottom job, but decided to have the shop redo the stripes. When we found the original color of the gel under the stripes we decided to deoxidize the entire hull. I always thought the boat was white...but SR "sand" is certainly not white! Also have the new platform from swimplatforms.com, which they built in less than a week and shipped from AZ to TX in a day. Just saw it today and am thrilled with the quality...and it's HUGE.

Hopefully back in the water next week to enjoy the remainder of the best boating season in TX.

Jason

what type of breaker are you looking for? I can check next week at one of the junk yard stores

Sorry I missed this, I was able to cross reference a newmar 089-0301-2 with the old carling switch. I had to order it through a supplier in Indiana. They had several emails back and forth about what type and poles I was looking for the took my money and shipped me a switch. The newmar switch that I thought that I ordered had carling on it. So I finally found one after a month of looking.

Cbach.... we are going to need photos man!

That's great Cbach. Did you have her wet-sanded? Always amazing to see the original color and luster when stripes are removed.

We're going to try a deoxidizer first, as I've always had issues with getting all the sanding marks out and want the same result on the non-skid areas. If it doesn't provide enough result, then we may have to readdress the issue. From what we can see under the stripes, this was a unique and rich looking vessel when it was young.

You all may already know this- but here is a many $ warning. Tried to pull the dip stick for my port v-drive, turned the handle and pulled. Turned again and pulled. Again and the stick came out leaving the bushing and washer in. Got the bushing out- washer gone. At some point in time the stop on the stick was removed or never there. Long story short, I had to have the local mechanic pull the engine and drive and then no one would open the drive! I live 500 miles from the boat so I had it shipped to me. If you are just going in to retrieve something the cover comes right off. New gasket and you're good to go. Bearings require a bit of set up. Mine were good and wear patterns good so it all went back. New dipstick has a large punch mark in the threads AND epoxy at the bottom.

If only we could get around to the cosmetic work....the bottom job is done, the new platform is on, and the old stripes have been removed, but while I was down there today I noticed a two bent tips on the port prop, and play in the cutlass bearings, so back to the drawing board for a bit longer. Oh...and keeping calm after noticing a nice scratch through the gel on a new $3000 platform!

My bottom job is in process right now...thank goodness no blisters

I had two small blisters towards the bow on mine, but we decided to leave them be until next time. Spend yesterday at the boat show here in Dallas and tallied up about $12K of mods I'd like to do this year (full camper canvas/full exterior seadek)....or I could just buy the 45 Cantius at the show and forget about it!

what size is the hide a bed sofa's? My 340 did not come with one and I want to put one back in. Thanks

Any one ever have this panel in the transom door out?
What is this and why is it there? Asking for no other reason than curiosity....

i am a fairly new 89 340 sundancer owner and i have a few questions.

1. How do you run wires up into the radar arch?
2. is the only way to access the wires to the gauges to remove them?
Thank you for your help!

I'll give a few answers. To Northshore. The panel pops out with help of a J-bar or screw driver, it has roller holders like other panels in the cockpit. Once out, you can access the hinge bolts. Or you can hide stuff in there. lol.
To boatingbren. 1. There should be round access panels on the inside of the arch. Sometimes the access panel is replaced with a speaker. You must pull the side booster out to access the bottom of the arch. Top of the arch access is done by pulling the arch lights out. Use an electricians pull wire to fish wires thru.
2. Sorry, the only access to dash gauges is by pulling out the dash panels. There should be enough wire to the gauges to let the panels out to 6" inches +. Be careful with the panels, they are fragile.
