The big old 80's 340 owners thread

I'll give a few answers. To Northshore. The panel pops out with help of a J-bar or screw driver, it has roller holders like other panels in the cockpit. Once out, you can access the hinge bolts. Or you can hide stuff in there. lol.

Speaking of "roller holders", I've removed and had all the panels/seats recovered on my '86, which had MANY screws holding the panels to the fiberglass. I'm not crazy about running all the screws back through the new vinyl, although I will likely have to, but does anyone have pics of the roller holders used on the later boats that show what they are and how they attach? If it's feasible I'd certainly like to use a different method and clean up the install.

Thanks!

Greetings All,

Looking for a source and part# for the window seal on the wing windows.
Also (but less important) the seal/molding that covers the hinge could use serious help.

If anyone has done the job, I would be interested in hearing if there are any potential 'gotcha's'

Thanks,

I think these pieces were made by TaylorMade. I believe all of these parts are still available. I was able to get parts for the windshield on my 1985 Cobalt.

Thanks Shawn! I'll get in contact with them

Re: The Big old 340s thread

Just bought a wonderful 89 340 with 400 hrs on it. Found annoying drip from cockpit bar sink. Dissected the sink and found miniscule O ring was torn. Had to buy them 100 at a time so if you have same problem I am happy to mail u new one to fix yours.

Dan, here's wishing that is the worst problem you have with the boat! Congrats and welcome!

Many thanks to Jim for the invitation to the Hold in the Water Club, although my 83 Sea Ray is not a 34...
anyone attempted any repair of the sliding windows in the cabin? I've got on in the head and one overt galley sink ta slide forward....but nylon channels the windows slide in are old and sticky....any suggestions?

Question: Does the "Cockpit Lights" breaker also turn on the small "foot lights" (not sure if that is the proper term) inside the cabin on everyone's 340?
This seems just a bit nuts to me. I'm thinking about wiring up a new switch and breaker for these lights

Thoughts?

It's hard to answer without seeing but I used these on my old 52' and replaced all the window track. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/beckson-marine--single-channel-mate-glass-channel-7-16-w--195125

Ya know.... I think that is correct. (going from memory) I though it was weird too. An I think they are called "Courtesy Lights."

I thought it was strange to have the courtesy lights on the same circuit as the cockpit lights. So, I changed out the arch lights with LEDs that have their own switch. Now, I can have the courtesy lights on and the cockpit lights are all on their own switches.

The v-berth light was also wired to the cockpit breaker. I rewired it so its on the cabin lights circuit. That one didn't make sense to me either.

This appears to be the place where I will find those with the knowledge I am seeking.
i'm a previous 270 dancer owner. Sold it when the kids got older and we got into many other activities. All are grown and now grandchildren.
I want them to have the great memories of the lake their parents had.

So Last Sat I looked at a 1986 340 Dancer. love the size.
twin350 crusaders, closed cooling. Kohler genset. So far so good. Now my confusion begins. V drives. I know nothing about them.
Would appreciate any education I can get.
In my research I have been told to take a look at the arches attachment pit for wood rot. Any other advise for common flaws I should be looking for?
A thoughts and comments from current or previous owner's will be appreciated
thanks
Mike

Mike, did you see julietbravomike's response to your original post? Good stuff in there.
And everyone (or almost everyone) will echo the 'get a survey' song.

Northshore
A survey is a given if I decide to move forward. Curious what to look for to decide if it is worth a survey or move on.
Survey costs here in AZ are about $15 to $16/ foot and do not include engine and drives. Need to find somebody to go through the engines and trans.

I would be worried of twin 350's that's a lot of boat to push around. My 2 ¢

Ill echo Jason's response - are you certain those are 350's?
Last I heard, The HITWC Grand Poohbahas 340's were Crusaders and were pulling about 35 knots - no way a pair of stock 350s does that....

Listed as 350's. The fun part is the Crusader 454 CID is model 350 as in HP. I'll have a better idea sat when I take another look at the boat.
