I have only been on CSR for 2 days now. And wow! The help and the info has been great! Thank you all who have reached out and given me info.

I figured I would grab the bull by the horns (after going 30 pages deep and various searches) to start THE BIG OLD 80'S 340 owners thread. Of course not to hate on the newer 340's club, (which I hope one day to be a part of) but it would be great to put together a thread of all owners of the big old 80's 340's so we can pick each other brains and share our experiences and knowledge.

I look forward to seeing how many CSR members are still behind the wheel of the 80's. So kick back with your favorite 80's hair metal band cassette and comb your mullet, were bringing back the 80's with pride!

Just joined!! I have a 1989 340DA too. Just got her in July and I am very happy with her. She was VERY well maintained by the 2 previous owners. I feel fortunate to have her. I do have a question; Up under the far aft storage openings on both the port and stbd sides is an app. 18" stainless pointed tube that is attached with two screws to the overhang. What is it??
Been a boater fro 60+ years and have never seen anything like it. Hibiscus09Oct 003sml.jpg

I'm in! I have an '87 EC. I have up graded from a cassette to CD and not much hair left for a mullet. Still, the Sea Rays of the '80s are great boats. Had to toss the TV/VCR combo the PO had onboard. I now have a Flat screen TV/DVD which I can play my Miami Vice TV series DVDS on. I loved the '80s. :smt001

    Keith,

As you know, I am in as well. In my mind you got a great deal on your boat. Out here in the land of the Governator and year 'round boating, I would not sell my boat for less than $40k. But it is loaded as well and even has some things installed at the factory that were not available to the general public. The original owner was a Sea Ray factory employee when he ordered the boat and he had a few extras installed.

We have put a lot of work into ours and there is still more to go this next year. I have posted pics of our bat many times and they are on the Pre-Clinton Era thread that Ron posted as well. You guys need to get some pics up.

I talked to Sea Ray, and they stated that the tapered tubes in my photo were an option and were intended to be fender holders. I have asked for explanation on how they work. I will post when I get it.

There is another thread I started a while back, which as with the Pre-Clintonites it ran on into alot of different topics.

I have an EC, but some of the banter was applicable to the DA's as well. I'm sure if you have something you need to fix, someones either done it, or knows someone who has. Sometimes we chime in with thoughts that have no facts and thats fun too:smt038

Send me some info on the fabric you used and anything you may think that may be helpful. I really like the pattern, would like to do the same thing. My flatscreen is the same way except on the other side and mounted on the dinette side of the bulkhead.

Thank you so much. My wife is the one who picked all the fabric. I will get the info for ya. I have to take some outside pics too. I have the swimplatforms platform and a few other outside upgrades.

The exterior is more of a work in progress. Its not in too bad a shape, but I havent redone the woodwork yet. I may leave that for next season.

Mine has the Burgundy paint scheme and the interior colors seem to match really well with that (what do I know about matching colors though?) I may eventually look to doing my dinette in a different fabric, I like what you've done there!
I was amazed at how clean and tight your roof and wall material is, did you do anything to that, or is that the factory stuff?

My headliner & walls are original. I did just have them cleaned this year, but they are in pretty good shape. The fella before me was in a covered marina. There are some light water stains in a few spots.

The carpet was replaced & needs to be again. It has some pretty good wear on it. I was thinking about doing a wood or fake wood on the stairs & the kitchen area only. Ive only seen a few like that. Anyone done that? If so lets see some pics!

Someone professionally painted all the vinyl inside my boat before I got it. Instead of being the puke greenish-brown color, it is all bright white. Not sure if I like all the bright white, but it is better then the original color. The carpets, uphulstery and other wood areas were all replaced. It's pretty generic now. Most people can't tell it was painted until I point it out, then it is obvious.....

The point of this post??? Do not paint if you can replace or recover instead...... Use vinyl painting as a last option.
