The big old 80's 340 owners thread

Hello everyone :) I am the proud owner of a 1987 340 Sundancer as of this summer. I am slowly fixing things as they come up but the boat is in overall good shape. The previous owner took out the dinette seats and put a futon in its place. I would really like the put the boat back to how it was. Does anyone have some detailed pictures of how it is supposed to be set up? I am thinking I am going to have to build the seats from scratch but I don't know how the bottom and back connect and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Afterthought: Has anyone tried a dinette booth set for an RV?

After really going though the boat last nite I found all of the original paperwork manuals service records and even the pre shipping inspection sheet from merritt island.
Has all of the original wiring and plumbing diagrams and winterization check lists and procedures under the deck panels.
lots of good info here and if anyone needs copies for the 1985 I would be happy to make them copies
hey I'm new to the 340DA club. I have a 84 340. If you by chance still have all of those diagrams and winterization checklist, It would help me out tremendously. And a little background on my girl. She is in rough shape. But in the same sense a blank canvas. The cabin has been deconstructed to the bare hull except for the v berth bed pedestal and the aft berth. The head needs to be completely reconstructed. It has twin mercruisers. Engines are free and run. The boat has been put up for a while so I know there are alot of maintenance issues to be dealt with but it’s going to be a family project over the next couple of seasons. As soon as I figure how to post pictures, I will.

Greetings and welcome to CSR.

I have electrical diagrams for this 'series' of boat - It may or may not cover what you have.
Shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll send them to you.

If you have a look around the site, there are threads on winterization and I'm sure there will be a list some where.

Here are some photos of the project. I’m not to worried about the work. I’m pretty good with my hands. But would love some ideas. So let me hear it.

That's going to be some work (and expense)! If haven't done so, you are going to want someone to check that hull and the stringers over for moisture before you do anything. Worst thing that could happen is you do the rehab and find out the hull is not sound. Dig around on the site. Some people have taken huge jobs like your on before.

Hey Mike. Thank you for the electrical drawings and schematics they will help out tremendously. I have already had the inspection done. The stringers and hull are sound. They shown no signs of delaminating didn’t have any soft spots no blisters visible on the exterior hull. I will be working with a guy who runs a boat restoration shop here local who is going to guide and help through the restoration. So I’m super excited about that.

Welcome to CSR. Best of luck on the resto. It would be cool if you started a new thread and documented the project with pics along the way and would also help others in the future.

You're very welcome and I second what Mitch said, you may want to start a new thread to document your efforts.

Here is a ebay guy that may come in handy for you (all kinds of odd little parts)

and a more odds and ends

Best of luck!

Hello everyone, I just bought a Raymarine Axiom 9 chartplotter and need to get a transducer. I am looking for advice on the most affordable way to do this. Do I need to buy a port and starboard transducer or is there a place where I can install a single transducer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Cam, are you talking about the the GPS the chart plotter will need? Or possibly a depth and temp thing?
If GPS, all you need is one.
Are you doing a VHF upgrade as well? If so, many have GPS built in to them and you just need to tie the Radio to the chart plotter I believe.

I am referring to the transducer for the depth and fish finding features.

Ok, I'm definitely not your guy for that stuff.
My 340 came with a depth, speed and temperature transducer that was between the starboard engine and stringer.
I dont know if this was on all models and certainly dont know if is a "pull the old one out slap the new one in" kinda thing.

I would dig through this thread:

https://clubsearay.com/index.php?forums/electronics-q-a.16/

to see if you can find an answer. I you don't I would post your question there more people will see it.

I am looking at the Axiom as well for my 280 Sundancer. It is a very complicated issue as I spent a lot of time working with a Raymarine engineer and the local Raymarine installer. When trolling and off plane the new RV100 is transom mounted and works very well. However, it is VERY tricky apparently to mount in such a way that when on plane it will work reliably. We are going to try it since for MY applications, I just need very simple depth when on plane and only need all the fancy and very accurate 3d stuff when trolling or docking (in our very shallow waters)... If it doesn't work, I will have to go with paired thru-hull transducers or much more cash. Your mileage may vary but hope this helps a bit -- and I welcome any other input from knowledgeable folks...

Thank you for your speedy replies, I really appreciate it. If you have a chance, will you send me a picture of your transducer location? (If possible)

Thank you for the input, for the sake of cost I have been considering the same thing. I was thinking that maybe I could get away with the RV100 and just deal with the quirks.

Hello,
I hope everyone's Season is off to a good start. I have a plumbing parts question on my 1989 340 Sundancer. I have a 90 deg elbow and a Tee that need to be replaced in my potable water system. It looks like the original parts were made by BrassCraft. The tubing OD is 5/8". I don't see where these parts are available any longer. Has anyone upgraded their water system? What pipe fittings did you use? Thanks very much!
Steve
