...post your pleasure or displeasure with religion or the past, present or future administration [emphasis added - FC3]...

Good point. I'm a bit upset with the policies promulgated by the 45th president elected in 2012. He should be pushing congress with a stronger pro-growth agenda, increasing off-shore drilling permits, and reducing the size of government. Why else does the fool think we're going to vote for him?

If you must post your pleasure or displeasure with religion or the past, present or future administration, then perhaps you are on the wrong forum.

There are actually 2 places on this forum created specifically for non-boating chat. It was designed this way to keep non-boating chat out of the Boating sections of this forum.

Most off topic and political posts at CSR are started in one of those two places anyway. The few threads that don't start there are usually quickly moved to the appropriate place by moderators.

My suggestion would be if you (or anyone else) does not want to read or participate in these conversations then simply don't go to those two places and your experience here should be enjoyable.

Just so you know, here are the two spots-

"Tiki Bar"- "Shoot the bull with fellow CSR members. Non-Boating discussion. No political posts!"

"The Holding Tank"- "The holding pen for off topic and political posts. Password protected."

+1:smt038 God Bless America and our freedom!

Agreed, if you don't want to participate then don't reply. If you don't want to read it then don't go in there. That is why there is a "Holding Tank" with a password to enter.

Just have them on there own little dock with password to enter.
You get in there and get your feeler hurt,It's your own fault.

I come to this site to read/discuss boating related items and nothing else. I like it that way. There are enough other sites to discuss everything else!

OK, here is my decision (as if I need to make a decision lol). Political and religious and whatever other controversial things can be talked about in the Holding Tank. Everything else will go in the non-password protected open part of the forum. If you don't want to read the political stuff then don't go into the holding tank.

How will this be managed.
Will it be by popular vote, key word, or will you decide being the owner of the site?
When something is sent to the tank, is there any notification? I haven't been on the site long enough to see it happen or maybe I just didn't notice.

Thanks for the info.

There's no notification when a thread is moved, you'll just find that it is missing. A quick check of the holding tank, and you will find it again.

(I enjoy pretending to be CSR_Admin Btw....sorry if I offended anyone by answering the above post)

Scott, you truly make me laugh.
Thanks for the info on the tank.
Hope the new year bring you much happiness my friend.

Ban them! Who wants to hear more crap! Let's talk about boating!

I'm begining to think that in order to participate in this poll, you should have more than 200 posts to your credit. In other words, skin in the game....

Before I get labeled as a newbie hater, I would hate to think that someone would participate in a poll that could have ramifications, when they really don't spend much time on the forum, and thus have no clue as to what they are voting for.

Or at least have been here long enough to realize that there are two places at CSR intended for that type of talk. If they actually read this thread rather than just reading the title and replying they would know that as it has been pointed out multiple times.

NOW- For the millionth time. :smt021 If you don't want to see, read or participate in Political conversation, don't go in the "Tiki Bar" or "Holding Tank" areas. It really is that easy. Just don't click there.

Great points!!!

I will express again, THE MAJORITY DO NOT WANT BLANTANTLY POLITICAL POSTS. We need self censorship to keep peace while preserving our desire to discuss political boating issues such as oil, water, fishing, invasive species, and regulation.

Actually the majority right now says do not ban. Am I reading it right?

I think Mike means that most of us don't want political discussions to run rampant throughout the site. Which I believe is true, even I don't want that. But we are pretty good at self censorship, and you don't see it happen very often outside of the tiki (you're not going to believe what I almost typed instead of tiki) bar and the holding tank.

On occasion, politics may enter a thread, such as a certain political party's policy on oil exploration. A logical and thorough discussion of that subject could not occur if we banned discusion of politics completely. I don't think Mike is supporting banning political or religeous speech all together, right Mike?

That is correct. I do not want a ban at all. By majority I include the yes to ban votes along with the sentiments expressed by several that voted no, that feel blatant political posts to "start it" are not welcome. I kind of started this when I noted a member had posted irrelevant "start it" several times a week and hoped he would reconsider for future posts. Which he seemingly has. (Thank you.)

I just want to correct an error in my original post. I should of used "thread" instead of "forum" (If you must post your pleasure or displeasure with religion or the past, present or future administration, then perhaps you are on the wrong forum.) I didn't mean to infer that CSR shouldn't have any political or religious discussions. What I find somewhat objectional are the little digs and smarta$$ comments at the end of what was an otherwise informative post. Even in this thread you can find them. Politics and religion are very personal things to many people and even the most innocent statements can be misinterpreted. I know this fly's in the face of the many pot stirrers here but the only point I was trying to make was to use some common sense and etiquette when posting. Hope this doesn't sound too PC :smt024

No speed limits in the Ocean... No painted lines in the water... And no censorship in the CSR... If you don't want to read it, don't open it... Some of the funniest threads on this site are political... Don't see much religion, probably could use some more..

I don't visit this site (or engage people in person) to discuss politics. This is a boating website by design. Besides where is your view gonna get you on here?
BUT this is America and I don't like big brothers so lets play in the proper rooms and make everyone happy!

Nope... no PC here... nope... move along...
Give me a f*cking break you idiot... Go call a WHAmbulance.

I think is should it tends to divide people, we should stay focused on boating only. Unless politics starts effecting the boating industry and our freedom.
