A number of other boating sites have banned discussions of Politics and Religion. Should CSR also ban these discussions?

I choose not to go in them. :smt001. Most of them you need a password to get in. :smt038

So if you enter one then you enter at your own risk.

No! My other favorite forum...Diesel place.com has a "politics and religion" section where you have to have so many posts and check the box that you can post without getting your feelings hurt! I think it's healthy and it's nice to know who you are dealing with and what their thinking. A person does NOT have to click on the posts that Pack posts! I don't think you need a "Nanny" CSR...IMHO!

Edit: Besides...I love watching Pack get his AZZ handed to him on almost all occasions...lol

Agreed, if you don't want to participate then don't reply. If you don't want to read it then don't go in there. That is why there is a "Holding Tank" with a password to enter.

No need to ban them if you know what you are getting in to or just stay out of them...most problems are avoided by people who know its going to be a no-win situation. But some are fun to bring popcorn to (like the potbelly pig thread).

I am here for the boating related threads. I handle politica/religion by ignoring those topics. As long as they stay in the holding tank ot tiki bar, I'm ok. Unfortunately, lots of threads tend to wander about in subject, so I miss the boating content in some of them because I'm not interested in the latest left-wing scewball article somebody cuts-n-pastes to CSR.

Yep, there are plenty of sites that cater to just those topics. Too much clutter to try and include everything on what should be a dedicated boating message board. There is one psuedo-boating site that has tried to include, finance, computers and several other non boating topics, and it has turned into nothing more than a social network site, with virtually no boating discussions. I would not like to see CSR go that route.

Keep them in the holding tank. You don't have to engage the crazies if you don't want to.

I have always (I think) refrained from either replying to either topic, but I do choose to read them. They make me laugh, think and even feel like throwing my computer. With that said, I enjoy everyone's opinion on here about "boating" and some threads have gone too far and offended people or they have gotton banished from this site..........Those people offer a lot to this site about boating and that is why I am here.......I am also a freedom of speach guy who always sticks his foot in his mouth........A thread solely about nothing but politics or religion or slanderous remarks does not belong on this site.....I very much dislike our current president and my views and feeling should not be on this site. He might of bought some searays for life long products of our welfare system and they might be on this site.

You can't make it go away, it would take far too much moderation. Keep it where it belongs, in the holding tank. I view the forums just like tv or radio, if I don't like it, I won't watch or listen. You don't have to like others opinions, nor do you have to respect them, but you can ignore them !

I refuse to discuss the possible banning.

No. Enact a ban and the left wing thought-nazis will force the deletion of all the Merry Christmas and "What did you get for Christmas", etc. threads because those posts use a bad word that sends lefties into fits of apoplexy.

If we ban this type of free speech then we'll all be celebrating Festivus instead of Christmas!

If we celebrate Festivus, does Tim have to give us a ride?

I vote NO. This forum has need to discuss boat regulation, oil, water access, and fishing regulation. All of these topics contain political elements that are sensible for us to discuss. What is tiring is, as previously noted, is "cut and paste" of purely political topics.

I think its OK in the holding tank... Although I occasionally read some posts, I typically choose not to participate.

As I said in the other should we ban politics thread..............

It's a winter thing. Everybody has shrunkwrapped themselves up so tight there is no oxygen going to the brain, IMO. This happens every year. We can't think of decent boating topics so we spew out the crap that's in the headlines and political vommit that is at the forefront of our minds. The issue I think that goes over like a chili fueled fart in church is that some take joy in strirring the stain in the shorts and in a forum setting, points of view can't be summed up in a decent post. Instead they retort with extremes and "look at me" attention getting replies. The Repo dude from FL is a good example. That dude commited forum suicide in almost a 'killed by cop' style. "Let me lash out at everyone that replies to me" and now I have no way to return to a normal post because everyone on a normal boating thread thinks that they're rafting next to Charles Manson. It seems to me like PackDad's only agenda in his brief time here has been political and agitating to the forum. I haven't hit the 'ignore' button yet, but I don't play too much with the political threads. It's futile. Anyway, Happy New year....

I don't they should be banned, but if you choose to engage in it don't cry like a little girl when you get your tail handed to you.

You ban the discussion and attempt to be politically correct, the effectiveness of this board is diminished. People will not be ready to step up and take a stand in fear of being censored, red balled (PC?) or infracted.
