Official 60 SR600 resto w/pics

another late nite for me....
the engine is now completely wired and throttle and shift control cables connected and adjusted,
electric start control box permenantly mounted, battery tray mounted.

and I made this nifty cable guide to protect the paint from the cables and
fuel line dragging across it when turning the engine.
all stainless steel so should look good for years.

set the fuel tank and holdown strap tomorrow and wire some power and ground to the light
switches and a main fuse and she will be ready to start.
then clean her up a bit and set the windshield.
Still waiting on 1 seat cover to be finished.
foam for the seats will be in Thursday evening.
I am getting a little giddy

no seat upholstry in yet but....
Heading to the local lake for a little test run ...and ride if everything seems ok to go

It looks fabulous Jim! Great work. Every time I see pictures the theme song from the Jetsons goes through my brain...just sayin'

See you in Knoxville for that beer.

Excellent job. Looking forward to pics of it in the water with the completed interior.

well the launch didn't go as planned
the curse of the HIWC has followed me...or the little boat spent too much time talking to the big one.
went to the local campground lake with this beautiful launch ramp....water is down a bit this year.

got her down in the water and warmed it up a bit..sounded good !!
after a few idle adjustments sounded great !!!

put her in gear both ways on the trailer and had good thrust so decided to putt around for a minute.
bad move ....had some shift issues ... about 30 yds off the trailer something popped.
got her back to the ramp in reverse...which is where it is stuck right now.
luckily I went prepared..throw line, PFD, fire extiguisher, and a paddle.
looking at the bright side...it floats and took no water on.
back to work I guess....

Actually was coming back in to town and stopped to talk to a buddy and a local classic car dealer asked if he could buy it
I told him we would talk after September20th

well...with some further investigation...
water is not an adequate substitute for gear lube
tore off the lower and broke it down and all of bearings and seals are toast
and the shift carrier is totally worn out and sloppy
it had overheated and siezed to the shift dog.
new impeller is already in
but...what can you expect from a 50 year old 100 dollar outboard
Parts Ordered...

Ya gotta hate that no gear lube issue! Can't wait to see it in a coupla weeks Jim.
