Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

oh yeah..
also found the very thin aluminum "build tag" under some paint in the rear
the original serial # is 6083
makes me wonder if this is a 1961 or possibly a 1960
they only made the 600 for 2 years

Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

I would definitely go with the second steering wheel. Where are you going to send all that stuff to be re-chromed.

Not sure yet
Gonna research who can do potmetal

Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

The second wheel! Not sure about the flag pole...

Nice find on the windshiled

Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

This a great project you got going! It'll be fun to watch your progress.

Another vote for the 2nd steering wheel. I'm torn between flag and no flag. Leaning towards flag, though. What if... instead of screwing the flag holder to the light, you installed bolts from the underside of the light so you could take the flag holder on/off as you see fit? How much would the studs have to protrude through the light - about 3/8" maybe? When not using the holder, just put the nuts back on the studs so you don't get scratched... or use acorn nuts to give it a cleaner look.

I have been considering using the light without the flagpole (I think I like it better) and mounting the flagpole only a few inches behind the light on the front deck.

Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

Wow, what a project. I admire guys who will take on a restoration project like that. I don't have the patience or skill to do it, but I like the finished project. Can't wait to see more pics as you progress.

Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

I vote for the Flag Pole, just think of how it will look when your scooting accross the lake with the flag flapping in the wind. It fits perfectly with the age of the boat.

It would make a cool dinghy for your 550

Good idea. It'll look nice there.

Which bow light... the second one, right? Maybe just mount it a little further aft (as compared to how it is in the picture) so it doesn't stick over that "edge" in the fiberglass? Although, you probably had it just generally placed there for the picture?

Re: Official 61 SR600 resto w/ pics

I would keep the flagpole/bowlight and just have it rechromed. You can have one of the original type Blue "Sea Ray" burgee flags made to go on it. I am one that always like to keep old things original as possible though.

Are you goign to remove all that Black paint and take it back to Blue?
