New Swim Platform

Should have had it delivered directly to the marina where they might have a forklift and save the $63.00 home delivery fee??

My marina is a dockiminium , the mechanics are not associated with anyone, and my boat is around a few tight turns where a trailer cannot make . Thought of it already. And swimplatforms -are refund ending my "residentiial" delivery fee

These shipments are shipped common carrier and receiver is expected to have the needed equipment to unload the shipment. Unless the rules have changed, if you ordered 25 boxes of widgets the driver will bring them to the tailgate, you are supposed to get them from there or pay an inside delivery charge. If too big and heavy for the driver to move the receiver is responsible for unloading. The home deliver fee is for residential delivery not unloading usually.

MM

The "rules" where curbside delivery residential , it says nothing about having the equipment to off load. The driver was shocked to see a crate that size on his truck, he said to the wife" how did they expect me to get that off the truck?" Also, a forklift would not work as the crate is 12' long even with fork extensions it would be dicey.

They could have put it on a flat bed so that a forklift could have been used. Really not something that the average home owner would have around. What do you suppose that the $63.00 surcharge for home delivery is for?

They stated it was for the lift gate. Which is useless when the object is 3x the size of the lift gate.

That is typical common carrier BS. They are not prepared to deliver that to a "City" home. There are a bunch of folks on here that can unload that at their home but most cannot. I had mine shipped to my service guys and they have fork lift and it was no big deal. Good luck, MM

No kidding.

Probably just as well it didn't come off the truck at your home. You'd then have a hell of a time probably getting the darn thing to the marina to install it.

Well went to uhaul rented a trailer and took my 3 sons to pick up the platform, had the forklift guy set it down on two steel dollies then I cargo strapped it to the dollies and had him push it onto the trailer. Made the 10 min drive to the marina, disconnected the trailer jacked the landing gear all the way up to lessen the angle of the ramp and pushed it out!!!!!! It now sits next to the boat
man this thing is big! I'm gathering equiptment and friends to plan the install we'll bring the BBq to keep the guys motivated. Wish me luck

Good ole fashioned ingenuity......bravo man.

Keep us posted.

anxious to hear your thoughts about it when you get that crate opened and get a good look at it. I assume you haven't yet.

And don't forget the "suds".....I think a project like that is going to be thirsty work. At least mine is anyway.

Good luck.

Have three or four small bottle jacks handy and some scrap lumber for padding.

Build a sturdy work platform that Will accommodate the platform with room for the jacks underneath and maybe another 6 to 8 inches. I used a lot of lumber from the crate.

Jack the platform snugly into position.

Drill lots and lots of holes into your boat. I started with a very small bit to confirm hole placement was correct.

To do this 100% professionally you would drill oversize holes, fill them with epoxy, then redrill proper size holes.

My swim platform holes were not below the waterline at anytime (even while on plane), so I just drilled the holes and filled them with 3M 5200 right before I inserted the bolts.

Did much of the 5200 get pushed out of the holes though when you inserted the bolts?

Same here. After her first season in a slip I checked with a moisture meter and all was well.

It was actually a bit of a mess, I just made sure I had plenty of sealant under the bolt head as well as between the platform and the boat hull.

I'm borrowing 2 of these so I can adjust either side as needed.
They should make the job easier.

Yeah that will help, I just know you need some good pressure pushing the platform tight, forward and upward.

Can't wait to see some pics......it's gonna be nice.
