Georgetown area rondevous interest

You guys are killing me.lol. Jay, just say "I understand" and let it go.

Sadler, I am going to miss the GT BL trip because I'll be headed to the Bahamas. Saturday morning crossing. Friday driving. If I wasn't going on that trip I'd be with you guys!

Scouting the trip is work, and if I take more than a day to do the door, I might have to steal your handyman! lol. I guess I could take a break and drop the scout in instead of the Triton. It's smaller and easier to handle.

You guys are going to have so much fun on your trip.

Nicky, ET was quite a flirt. ET and HB were a little more each other size!. Maybe HB likes to pick on the little ones. lol.

Mike, where you coming up with all these alternate floating devices from?

Well to do friends at the beach! And I am a lucky guy, and I have a couple myself.

When it comes to boats I have way to much unusable unneeded knowlege than one should need. My love for boats keeps me busy helping everyone with theirs, so I end up with keys.

Same thing with the beach house. Geeze I sound like a mouch! I'm not really!

:smt089:smt089:smt089 I can't believe you're choosing the Bahamas over Barefoot Landing! Have you gone mad man?

Maybe we do a Carolina Gang Bahamas trip one day. I'll need a massive truck and trailer to pull, but that's a minor detail. Or, I just take Hey Baby, my dinghy. The rest of you guys are set.
Mike--how long do you go for?

Count me in for a Carolina - Bahamas trip when you guys go!

We are heading down to Myrtle Beach this weekend to "practice" for the Bahamas. We are tentitvely planning for the August 5-9th Bahamas fling from Florida to Bimini. Dave S. has helped me order a GPS system and I hope I can get it installed by Saturday. I also hope I don't run out of money playing boat captain! :smt100

I have to make the sacrafice for my family. They need me! Well...I keep telling myself that.
I think it's more I tag along. We have a really great time. The water is beautiful, the sun is warm, and the relaxing is paramount. The trip is run over two weeks, but on the water time is about a week and a half. We have to plan for weather days.

As far as truck and trailer for Hey Babe, I'm sure we can come up with something. A friend of mine delivers boats via trailer, for some local marinas and dealerships. He has a massive truck and hugh trailer.

Ken your in!

Practice makes perfect. Get outside in the ocean and get a good feel for your set up. But realize your boat will be much heavier, when outfitted for a Bahamas run. It will make a difference in handling. You'll soon see if your boat has enough power to push thru sloppy seas. You might have to under prop to get your cruising speed down. When it gets rough, I slow down to 15-18 mph. That way your not beating the boat to death.

Your fling trip to Bimini, have you talked to your insurance company yet? Your gonna need to buy a rider policy to cover your boat over there, they might ask you for references, and boat and navigation experience also, due to the size of your vessel, with single engine. You'll also need to find secure parking for your truck and trailer. It's a bad thing to return to a truck with smashed windows and no trailer. There's alot of info to cover, and it's tough to think of everything to write here. Some time we'll catch up with each other on the water and exchange info.

Am I still part of the Carolina Gang? If it is a Bimini Run can I come?

I talked to the insurance guy and he mentioned he could add something to the policy when needed.

I was assuming that the Marina where the Bahama Fling thing starts (Bah Mar?) in West Palm Beach would provide secure parking etc.?

I'll check out the ocean going speeds she can handle this weekend hopefully. On Lake Wylie about as slow as she will stay on plane is 24 mph.

Thanks for the good advice again!

Don't assume, most Ocean Marina have no trailer parking space. You may want to give them a call. Most will refer you to a storage yard.

Dang right Chuck! We'll either prove the nay sayers wrong or sink your boat! Ok, that's not funny, sorry. If you are serious and a trip is organized, we/you need to design a bow cover that can take a load of water and shed it off without collapsing.

Your welcome. Like Sadler said, the starting point marina may or maynot provide "secure" parking. I would call and confirm, to make sure they will at least provide a security guard.
As you can imagine, the good people of South Florida know when the fling trips organize and will take advantage of an easy smash and grab. On the other hand the local police also do the best they can.

I think Bah Mar is on the barrier island. Land is a premium. I drop in at...crap, I can't remember off hand. I'll look it up tommorrow. But the marina I drop in at is on the main land side and there is secure parking for $15.00 a day, with a security guard. They recently redone the marina, like in the last couple of years. Lake Park Marina! That's it. I knew it would come to me. You can slip up or anchor out at Peanut Island. I've done both.

I'm rambling on, I think I'm getting excited about my trip! Mike

[ Be fun to go half way Thursday evening late, then last half Friday.

Mile marker 354 is BF Landing swing bridge, so return trip is 470-354, or 116 miles, giving 5.8 hours total return time, a doable trip for Sunday, or we could overnight Sunday on anchor part way back, and get back to the Marina early Monday morning.[/QUOTE]

I think this will be doable, pending time off (of course) Janet wants to remake the camper and the bemini tops before then, and I'll definitely bring my camper this trip!!!

Same here with work--as of right now I can also do the long weekend. Let's plan on it, and if work gets in the way, no problem. It'll be a great trip either way. Good luck with the bimini/camper repairs. They'll be better than new when Janet finishes them.

Unless other boats join in, looks like just us ,Sadler and Nicky. Do yall have an interest in going to Barefoot ie like shopping, eating or staying there? Theres a really nice anchor spot south of there that would lbe really nice to stay at sat night. Bur we could come go up then come back a little piece to the anchorage. Wheres the interest?

Before I answer this post, I need to know who posted, Kes, or Jay. This could be a loaded question. I'd hate to get jay in any more trouble.

Nicky is so right. Jay could be making un-authorized posts again.

But for me, I can answer in a way that won't jeopardize Jay's safety:

All the things Jay or Kes listed sound great to me--staying at BF, shopping, anchoring, etc. I've not settled on my crew yet--still waiting on some folks, but if my nephew crews, he may want to spend some time ashore at Barefoot Landing. I get his answer yes/no Friday. (Bob has a golf tournament, and my wife and daughter an Irish dance event that weekend, so none of them can come)
