Georgetown area rondevous interest

Heres a report from cruisersnet. Sadler, you may already know this.

III. Report of AICW Shoaling Southwest of McClellanville, SC (Statute Mile 433)

Today, 6/5/09, we posted a very informative message on the Net's "South Carolina" section about AICW shoaling on a stretch of the Waterway a short hop southwest of Jeremy Creek and McClellanville, SC. What's so nice about this note from Captains Sami and Barry Shreve is that they are very specific about where the shallows are located. They even report sighting a grounded sailcraft here.

So, if your cruising plans call for traversing the South Carolina portion of the AICW anytime soon, best check out this data. You can do so by going to our South Carolina geographic sub-page, "ICW - Belle Isle to Sullivans Island (Statute Mile 410 to 464)" at:

As for barefoot, theres no anchoring that I would think safe in that part of the ditch. We may not even want to go. Honestly, its just shops/restraunts.Theres alot to see and do on the south end and It would be nice to spend the day beached at Sandy Is too. Aloha Friday wants to hop our boat Sat for the day, but would need to be able to be dropped back off at their car-if it can be worked out. We could do the lighthouse Fri afternoon and then get some seafood on the water that night. I could possiblly put together an old Goergetown rice plantation tour Sat morn, and then on the way up the Waccamaw(which is the ICW) we could find the "man cabin". A sandy Is. anchorage Sat night would enable us to drop AF back to their car at Wacca Wache marina. And then Sun could be either north to Barefoot or south to Black river. Whichever everyone wanted-or even if Nicky and Sadler split for the day, yall could meet back up in Gtown for the last leg home for you guys. When did yall want to be heading south from Gtown?

Kes, I don't have a prefrence, as wheather we go to BF or not. I like the idea of exploreing the rivers. If Sadler leaves Charleston on thurs., and if I can swing another day away from the job, we would like to make a long week end out of this trip.
If worse comes to worse, we will trailer to GT on fri morn and depart Sunday evening.
Looks like you have put a lot of thought into this adventure. We appreciate all of you'r efforts, and I'm sure that everyone that comes will have a wonderfull time.
The fact that we can get together so soon after the Charleston trip is a tribute to this group. Hopefully there will be others that will join in, because we all seem to enjoy boating as well as good company, keep up the good work and keep us posted. Nicky

All that sounds great. I'm fine not going to Barefoot. It's a long way, and there's plenty to see closer by. The Black River sounds great. The Waccamaw river I was suggesting was the part inland, off the ICW towards Conway. But, that's just one option of many. I'm great with the plan you laid out.

And thanks for the shoaling info. I had not seen that. I'll put it on it into the GPS before we leave.

On the boat now, at the marina doing some maintenance, getting the ole testy gal ready for the trip. :smt001

ps--My guess--we'll probably want to head back from Georgetown no later than mid afternoon on Sunday, but Nicky needs to chime in to, since we'll likely be going together.

I was looking on Google earth. I found thorough fare creek, also found Sandy Island. How far are we going up the creek? I was wondering if it would be worth while to bring some fishing tackle. A good mess of brim would be good for breakfast, with some grits, scrambled eggs and onion gravey. MMMM MMM

Now you talking! I could go for some of them!

LOL! yeh that sounds good. Can you believe Jay had not had grits with fish before last week. Said he had never heard of it. WEIRD. Had to introduce him to butter beans on rice too. LOL. I would say it would be well worth bringing a rod. Especially if we can get into the cove area. Its not far up the creek. No more than half mile if that.

Chuck you need to come and join the fun. Even if it's just for a day or so. Nicky

Just caught this... I cannot check our schedule until work tomorrow but I'll check back in here after I see what I am already committed to.

SweetDreams:

I have been trying to kick my boat addiction since you guys went to Charleston without me. Now you post something tempting like this. This is my first time on CSR in a long time. My wife insisted that I read this and see what we can work out. Our lowly bowrider has a few limitations. We would need a motel Friday and Saturday. We could leave Charleston Friday by noon. Georgetown Hampton Inn is convient. Saturday we would have to go to Barefoot landing and spend the night. The other possibility is to return to Hampton Inn Saturday. There are a bunch of motels a mile or two down the road from Barefoot Landing. It was under 10 dollars for the cab ride in a Sprinter Van. Doubt you need a reservation for dockage.

Socrates has a long no wake zone. When you get up in the Myrtle Beach section I guess your suppose to slow down but...

Great! Sadler, I am with you. I think thats what he said! LOL. Paul hope yall can make it. We are trying to coordinate the weekend to where it would be as convenient as possible for anyone needing a hotel both nights. We want everyone to be able to come join in!

Don't we have anymore planning to do? Doesn't anyone have any more sarcastic comments? I wonder where Paul is.

16 days.
