Americans slain by PIRATES!

We should have leveled the damn place when they drug our soliders dead through the streets!

I agree with two points here...

Pull any and all aid immediatley.

Stay the hell out of these known pirate areas. I just don't get why people travel to foreign destinations known for probable criminal activity, then are surprised when it happens. Is it really worth the risk? Yes, I feel bad for those slain and their families, but also feel this could have easliy been avoided.

Re: What a shame

I agree Todd but it's not "politically correct"! Not to mention these boaters were way out of anybodies comfort zone tooling in those waters!!!

Re: What a shame

The 3rd thread. Worthy of the attention though.

I apologize if this offends anyone....tactical nuclear warhead....there is no "sovereign state" so to say of Somalia as they have no functioning goverment. I believe we violated the one rule of the open sea - we were civil - and if you read the one article I saw (I don't know if it was the one quoted in the lead) the pirates are threatening retaliation as he "has invested $110,000 in weapons, food and salaries in this operation".
I give credit to our military for what they tried to accomplish - the two pirates killed (one by gsw and the second by knife) while clearing the vessel show great restraint and training. We should have towed them to sight of shore - in broad daylight - and lit that vessel up! (rant off)
I feel for the familys of those hostages, and for the members of our military trying to solve this problem. But I believe (and have for some time) that the end will only come by superior firepower (as they dont understand anything else).
just my .02 (worth much less in this economy!)

The folk that were killed were missionaries delivering bibles to various countries on their trek around the globe. I believe they knew the risk yet moved on their beliefs. Does that make them stupid, martyrs, or both? I don't know.

The net affect of the disposition of the pirates should be swift and with great prejudice no matter what the motives of the innocent were for being in those waters.

BTW...There have been no directives from any president to hold fire or open fire on any Somalia pirates to date. This has been left to the military to decide.

Trust me guy's it's not that easy, been there done that! That's a huge piece of "Ocean Real Estate"! There are probably 30 coalition Warships out there patroling. If I remember correctly they (the Quest) was caught 220 NW off the coast by those Gomers! Bottom line it's a tragedy but one that was caused by Faulty Decisions. International Commerce on the other hand is something totally different. When the nations start getting hit in the pocket they'll start Ramping up!!!

OK Marshal, I concede that you seem to have an inside track on what is going on over there. Besides feeling grief for the latest victims and their families, we are all just venting here. Just like the rest of us, you seem to have some strong feelings about the situation. What measures would you implement to deal with these banditos?

Why didn't the US just kill the rest of the pirates that were on board? Once the pirates killed the hostages the game was over. It makes no sense to bring these guys back to the US and spend millions convicting them and sending them to one of our luxury suites (compared to their country) to live.

Because that is not who as a people we are.

Because that is not who our Sailors and Marines are.
