Americans slain by PIRATES!

OK Marshal, I concede that you seem to have an inside track on what is going on over there. Besides feeling grief for the latest victims and their families, we are all just venting here. Just like the rest of us, you seem to have some strong feelings about the situation. What measures would you implement to deal with these banditos?
First of all it would never have been a "Political Solution". Keep the "Press" out of the area and do what needs to be done! There are two solutions to this;
1)Short term, Change the ROE Rules of Engagement for the area. All small boats not showing fishing equipment are hostile! Just about every US Flag Vessel, MSC and the like have FAST Teams on board, Fleet Antiterrorism Teams. They stand watch 24/7 on deck with M2 50 cal's on the railing through all transits in "Hostile Area's". Your in a Boat 50nm from the coast and you approach this ship after a hail and no responce your TOAST! All Vessel's transitting these area's should be equipt this way! No State Department Lawyer "A##holes" get involved!!!
Long Term; They'll get the message from the Short Term answer and go back to the Stone Age, chew their KHAT and leave the rest of the Civilized world alone.
I've got 26 years in the Naval Services, been abroad in the SandPit too many times and am a Liberal at heart! These people don't recognize anything but Unregulated Fullout Force and after that make sure you stay awhile cause someone in their tribe or sect will come after you for revenge!!
WHEW!!!!!
....and E.D.that would be Marshall with 2 L's:grin:

Because that is not who as a people we are.

Because that is not who our Sailors and Marines are.

CJ, I agree with you in my heart but this is a new world and calls for sometimes drastic actions! If memory serves me correct wasn't one of the first American Naval Battles "on the Shores of Tripoli" Where our ships and people were being held Hostage!!!

Duly noted Marshall.

WHEW!!!!!

That was just about the reponse that I anticipated and in view of the events of the past few years over there, I expect that you will not have too much opposition.:thumbsup:

This situation must get reversed ASAP!!

Re: What a shame

I believe it is time to treat these sh*tbags like the scum they are!!
Kill 'em all- Let God sort 'em out!!!

What surprises me is that the pirate boat was 225 miles off the coast, in those small boats?
and also that that somalia is holding 600 hostages:smt009

Amen.

Now if we could only get the politicians out of it...

They are nothing but Kale chewing "Crackhead" hoodlums! And need to be delt with like that! Your not going to solve this by inserting 100,000 Coalition troops in the area! The British learned that in 1775, we learned that after we saved France's ass in 1950's! And again in Moghadishu, I don't know what it will take but I've retired and anyway it's way above my Paygrade!!

CJ,

I have lost the ability to differentiate between an insurgent, combatant, terrorist and a pirate. It seems they all want to take lives for one reason or another. There are plenty of examples where we as a country hunt bad people. On one level, we are perfectly ok with Predator strikes, on another level killing bad people who just took four innocent lives makes people cringe and talk about the difficulties growing up in Somalia.

The only way this nonsense stops is by making the risk of dying a certainty for the bad guys.

You're Right Vince, That's the way to do it! The Russians have no "Political Currency" to lose by doing it that way and filming it! We however are a different Beast!
Way too much Medication last night!

These pirates should be lined up on the deck and each one shot and pushed overboard. That's enough of a trial and court for me....it's a combat zone. No free trip back to the US to live in luxury hating us, Mike.

I'm not sure they're worth the cost of the bullets... That area is known for large great whites... just slice an artery and toss them overboard.

I am going to take the "small government libertarian" approach on this:

1) This is Somolia -> not NY. The US has no overwhelming vested interest in this area relative to, say, Saudi Arabia.

2) If the "world" wants us to play policeman and clean up this cesspool: Then they can PAY us to do it. I am sure we would charge a reasonable price. I bet we would pay our share. I don't see why our share should be 100%

3) The yachtsmen: Sad. Sad. Sad. Darwin award nomination already submitted.

4) Other "commercial shipping" piracy: You know. . .there are reasons that "commercial shippers" are still operating in this area. Because the BENIFITS outweigh the cost. These are NOT isolated incidents. People are still making money running ships through here. If this was a huge problem for the commercial types. . they wouldn't send ships through this area. They would complain to their governments. Then they can get someone to clean it up. See point #2 above.

The US is running budget deficits. Playing "policeman" *for free* is as wasteful as foreign aid.

Do you actually read the BS you post? You are either f*cking clueless or.... just f*cking clueless...

No one deserves to die for sailing in the ocean...

cornflakes is a person too, don't be so mean... bully.

You take your private yacht deliberately through a Hurricane that has been forcast for days . . . that is an avoidable prewritten tragedy.

You take a private yacht through an area that is known for *routine* organized pirate attacks . .that is an avoidable prewritten tragedy.

We should address if the U.S. government should turn that region into radioactive glass as a seperate topic.
