The problem is that there are so many Somalians involved in pirating that it is impossible to get them all. The best that we could do would be to put a big enough deterrant in the area to make it an unattractive proposition for them. But like termites, if you do this then they will find something else to go after.

I know first hand that we are doing a heck of a lot to combat this situation but our resources are not endless. US forces are spread in many theatres at the moment and Afghanistan is a huge theatre of war that is tying up a lot of US military resources.

AIS is also something that is integrated with the VHF. When they're outside VHF range AIS won't work. The Somalian(is that correct?) Vessel tracking network for AIS may be non-existant.

The heck with carpet bombing....the Daisy-Cutters are a lot more fun to watch and man do they get the job done. Oh....I forgot, we are in a financial crisis. Stick to conventional bombs....cost less and still in stock and work just fine, Mike.
