Americans slain by PIRATES!

Many have said that it is on them because they boated in hazardous waters. However this is not like a submerged rock or coral reef that is a product of nature. This is willful acts perpetrated on innocent people. Yes, we all have a degree of awareness that we should implement when in high risk areas however this does not circumvent the retribution one should get for committing a crime in these areas. Whether it's commercial or private it is a crime. In international waters the piracy laws should be enacted to the fullest with the captain of the ship administering justice to the fullest.

Sometimes a little street justice can apply to deter crime. I’m all for a private fleet of gun boats looking out for our international interests in open waters. Recommission the PT boats and let’s have at it.

Re: Outrage

What? It is their fault they are dead? Really?

From the article you posted on the other link.

"They were very conscious of the threat posed by pirates, Stolnitz said, adding that Scott Adam had said weeks before that he was concerned about pirate activity in the area, a region he had never visited. But, he said, Adam was determined to sail the world himself rather than ship his boat, as some other yacht owners have done"

They new the risks. Not much different from sailing into a Hurricane. :smt009 I wouldn't boat in those waters.

I'm not going to put on an Izod polo shirt, with levi jeans and drive a bright red Corvette through Tehran eating a big mac, talking on my iphone and expect everything's going to be cool.
I'm also not going to sail my boat into waters that I KNOW have have 100's of piracy issues in the last couple years and think that " ah we'll be fine, they just go after big ships"

Yeah they are part to blame yeah. You stick your head in the gator's mouth and you might get hurt.

Shoot now, ask questions later for these Somalians for sure! Level that place back to the stone age. That's the only language they know.

No, how about don't go boating in that area. We all know it's infested with pirates, brazen enough to take on tankers and freightliners.
Lacook, this isn’t like you’re driving down a back street in Compton, CA and you can expect some level of safety even though you know it’s a rough neighborhood. This is international waters with desperate, dangerous thugs with nothing else to do but raid, pirate, take hostages and now kill people to survive.

Idiots

I would say they contributed to it greatly. You just don't take a yacht into that area of the world and not expect trouble. I know they were from Kookafornia, but still.....

According to the story below, a number of pirates got to go see their maker too, so it would appear at this point the whole story is yet to be told.

Why didn't the US just kill the rest of the pirates that were on board? Once the pirates killed the hostages the game was over. It makes no sense to bring these guys back to the US and spend millions convicting them and sending them to one of our luxury suites (compared to their country) to live.

It sounds like the Captain was packing more than bibles,
"Two pirates died during the confrontation and 13 were captured and detained, along with two pirates already in custody. U.S. forces also found the remains of two other pirates already dead aboard the vessel and believe a total of 19 pirates were involved in the hijacking."

I agree. These pirates are looking forward to their new lives with the U.S.A. as prisoners or POW's or whatever they are called. They'll have more food and shelter than they ever had in Somalia I would bet.

I knew this incident wouldn't last long. Our U.S. Navy wasn't going to let them make it to shore where then the hostages taken would essentially disappear, like that other couple that were held for over a year. They had them where they wanted them and were going to work something out, one way or the other. Don't mess with a boat flying the U.S. Flag!

They ARE in the stone age.
They never evolved.
They had there chance.
I vote for one bomb and be done with them.
I'll even fly it over for free.

Taken for the web site on Somalia:

As of October 2010, the U.S. Government had obligated over $229 million to support AMISOM with equipment, logistical support, and peacekeeping training. U.S. equipment support has included armored personnel carriers, trucks, communications equipment, water purification devices, generators, tents, and night vision equipment. Logistical support has included airlift, food, fuel, medical supplies, and medical evacuation flights. The U.S. Government has provided peacekeeping training to the Ugandan and Burundian peacekeepers through the Department of State’s Africa Contingency Operations Training and Assistance (ACOTA) program.

And the U S Government continues to pour money down another DESERT DRAINHOLE!!!

It has to stop somewhere!
One Bomb
One Sand Dune turned into Glass!

Maybe, Noboma will go over there and talk to them.
"Change we can believe in"
Cant happen quick enough...all we have left in our pockets is change.

It's just hard for me to think I'd take off on a trip like this and not have some sort of self-protection with me. I know it's illegal in many countries to have firearms on board, but I'd think you'd be able to come up with SOME form of protection, especially if you decide to go sailing in these waters...otherwise, you're just nuts taking those chances.

What a shame

I believe it is time to treat these sh*tbags like the scum they are!!
Kill 'em all- Let God sort 'em out!!!

19 pirates with armed with AKs and rpgs is tough to defend against unless you have your own anti-ship missle system or gattling gun. People would probably pay to go into those waters on "bait" ships just to blow the pirates out of the water when they attacked.

I'm all for our Seal teams getting the real world practice that they need. Maybe Somalia is the place.
