420 DA Thread

I'm pretty sure it's just a drip ring not a thru hull piece. I'll try to do some research on where I saw them...
Thanks appreciate that…. I googled but nothing…. I looked thru a 2005 420 parts manual and they don’t show an exhaust at all

My manual does show a diesel generator exhaust, it looks like it's a SS thru hull.
I would have to think they are thru hulls.
I will remove paint and see what it looks like….might just try a season like that and see how it goes

At the exhaust outlet for the engine and generator Searay bottom painted around this area. Does anyone know why? In 2005 they didn’t paint and added a stainless ring.
I am thinking of removing the paint and bringing back gel coat. I could always go back to paint I guess if it gets looking bad from the exhaust water.

best pic I have

Blue, Do you see a crack around the port? When I bought my 04 340DA used in 06, it had a hairline crack in the gel coat around the same gen set exhaust port which, in my opinion, was due to vibration/movement of the tube it was mated to on the the inside of the boat. I had it repaired once, along with some other work, but it came back. I do remember that SR started using a stainless through hull fittings in the 05, or 06 models and can only assume it was done to avoid performing warranty repairs on the gel coat, or worse, water intrusion if the connection failed since it was so close to the water line?

My 340 was not bottom painted around that through hull port when I bought it and am almost positive that a dealer wouldn't have done so when those boats were delivered new. One of your previous owners may have done it as a cost effective way to seal the crack.

Has anyone added an electronics power switch to the helm switches?

I'd like to add a power switch to control power to the helm electronics. It appears from the wiring schematics that everything is powered from the same "Electronics Fuse Block" which to my knowledge has constant power as long as the batteries are on.

Can anybody with some electrical expertise talk me through the correct way to safely wire that up? I did purchase the required rocker switch.

Here are before and after pictures of my adding a power switch and new fuse block dedicated to the electronics. The fuse block on the right was always on with the breaker in the engine room. The fuse block on the left is just added and now switched at the helm. I moved five circuits from the right, to the new fuse block on the left. I left the auto pilot on the original fuse block because it had it's own master power switch at the helm. I wish I had a left handed midget to get in there, but I survived.

Recently purchased 2005 420 DA. Have been going through all systems the last couple of days and catching things the surveyor did not.
My issue is that my lower cockpit lights as well as my stair led lights do not work. There is power going to and from both switches but no lights.
There is an extra wire on the lower right part of the switch that has no power regardless of what position the switch is in. The wire is pictured.
Has anyone run into anything similar? Not easy chasing wires in a boat.
Any ideas would really be appreciated.
Regards,
Matt

Is there power at the light fixture ? Possible burned-out old-style bulb or a new LED mounted backwards ?

For the small LEDs on the stairs, there is another switch in the MSR also marked “Indirect.” Check it. For my cockpit lights, there is a 12v breaker on the panel labeled Bilge lights I think. That breaker is actually for the cockpit lights. This one also has two switches. One by the stairs and one by the transom door.

I see the two switches for the cockpit. When you are talking about breakers, you mean those below the steering wheel?
I’ll check the MSR switch in stateroom. That has to be on to light the stairway?

Those stair lights can be switched on from msr or from switches alongside stairs….also the panel he is referring to is the electrical panel inside the salon behind the smoked glass.

Back to the boat this morning. Cockpit lights are working thanks to engaging the bilge/cockpit breaker. Feel like a dope missing that one.
My present 380 doesn’t have it, so I wasn’t looking for a separate cockpit breaker.
Regarding the stair lights. Still a no go. Hit the step switch in the master stateroom. Nothing. Again I have power at the switch and it doesn’t make it to the lights. I removed the AC duct in the aft stateroom and can see the wires coming from the port side. Can’t tell exactly where they are coming from. Odd that the switch is on the starboard side of the stairway and the wires are coming to the lights fro the far port side.
Hoping that someone has had the same issue.
Thanks again.

Leaving town for a few days and that will be the plan.
Those wires go half the length of the boat. It might be a bit of work.
Thanks again
