Hi guys. Up at the boat this weekend polishing and waxing for the upcoming splash and noticed by starboard exhaust flap has gone missing. Any ideas where I can find a replacement? anyone have a part number for this item?

TIA and here's looking forward to a another great summer on the water!

Are you talking about the stainless steel ring thru hull piece? Be specific...

Good luck with that search! I've been trying to find a replacement for the same part all week, since both of mine are rusty and one is loose. It's a part originally made by a company named Orcas which may have been purchased by Southco. Sea Ray gave me Southco's part number for it: M7-17-9205770-1, which may be for the entire fitting and the insert flapper is -1 on the end. While I'm at it, I'm also looking to replace the gen set's flapper/M7-05-9005215.

I think my local Marine Max's parts department was on vacation this week, because I got their voicemail each of the 6-times I called. I did find the entire fitting on Great Lakes Skipper for $70.00 and then found an old thread on this forum that said that Ugly Fish sells the insert for $25.00, but their site says they're out of stock and they were closed yesterday.

I really don't want to buy two new fittings just for the insert. I'll give an update here with any success, please do the same.

Thanks for the responses so far gentlemen.

continuing for clarification... the flapper part I am looking for appears to be a separate piece other than the thru-hull stainless steel fitting. It appears to be a separate, hard plastic black piece that is made up of an "outer shell" with a flap inside. I am attaching 2 photos I took, hope they help somewhat. One is the missing thru-hull fitting and the other has the separate piece in it. If I zoom in on the flapper, it appears to bear a "logo" of a dolphin or whale jumping out of the water (if that trips anyone's memory!)

As for the generator flapper, I don't know that I have ever looked to see if I had/have one!

That’s a lot of work for a flapper…..why do you think you need one?… I don’t have one

I do not either and I do not think they are totally necessary. My 44DB had them and they both stayed hung open all the time so they did nothing. Brewster16 is correct that you have to access the nut on the back from the ER. Others will chime in, but this may be one of those things better left as is.

Another thing to consider is if it came out it should be able to go back in from the outside. Maybe talk to manufacturer explain problem… they might have a fix and give you a couple flappers

Agree here as well. They are somehow hinged inside the thru hull. Look at the one you have and see how it works. Then find the manufacturer by maybe calling SR and talk to them.

We (the marina) have had issues with muskrats and/or other critters actually climbing into "non-protected" fittings and causing issues, literally gnawing their way thru anything they can! Not exactly sure what type of piping attaches to this in the engine room, but would rather not take a chance if we don't have to!

10 years ago when I had a 44 Sundancer Orca made a replacement that could be inserted into the existing fitting. I looked for the kits 2 years ago for my 44 Sedan Bridge and they were no longer available. I think the only fix is total replacement.

Fitting with flapper

So this these exhaust scuppers were made by a company named Oracas (not a dolphin logo) and went out of business 7-years ago. I picked up 2-scuppers for $60.00 from MarineMax today that were similar but made out of rubber and seems a little cheesy in quality. After matching it up with the ones on my boat, I called Great Lakes Skipper to confirm theirs are the same units on my boat and decided to order two of those entire fittings for another $100.00.

Obviously SR installed these scuppers to prevent water from backing into the exhaust. One of mine is really loose and spins around, but I didn't want to force it the rest of the way out until the replacement arrives. I will know then how it's removed. Ironically, the boat next to me is a 40' 2022 Sea Ray w/triple outboards and has the same scupper on it's generator exhaust port (2"), but it has an Attwood logo on it, so SR is still putting these on their new boats.

Don't worry too much about that flapper. If a bird or rodent would happen to carry something in the hole when you start the boat the nest would push out the bottom of the boat. The exhaust mostly drops through a large hole in the bottom. The side hole with the flapper is like a by -pass....and no way for water reversion to travel up your exhaust pipe at a 90 degree angle.

Please report back to the forum once you can provide additional details on completing this job. We thank you!

I don't have those flappers on my boat either. I think those side thru hulls are to small for a muskrat, maybe a watersnake. The underwater exhaust opening is larger, maybe they could get in that way.

I don’t disagree but we all like when everything is the way it is supposed to be often regardless of time, effort or money. I know I do. I can think of several things on my list that fall under that category of why bother….

So, I received the exhaust scuppers from Great Lake Skippers, which were installed on my boat when built. They were made by a now defunct company named Orcas. They are so pretty, that for $75.00 each, I'm going to replace the entire fitting rather than try to remove the flapper inserts to replace the rusty/loose ones on my boat.

I just wish I would have done this a week ago, since the boat got splashed yesterday. Although not impossible to do now, I'll probably just wait till she gets hauled at the end of this season to swap out the fittings.

The insert shown in the photos is the one I'll be returning to Marinemax that was $30.00 and has a cheap feel/appearance.
