2008 CSR Barnegat Bay Regatta and Gunkhole Event

Alex, The boat house is located at the little marina about 2,000 yards up the beach to the North. I had breakfast there this morning, same low prices as last year. Portions still big and food good as usual

Count Cheryl and myself in. After the fun times here in BIH, we need an encore. At least we won't have to fight off a horde of sail boaters for the party tent.

Best regards,
Frank

Ron,
At this time please count 4 of us: Alex, my wife Jelena, our two kids Michelle (11) and Daniel (3.5). If we'll have guests on board I'll let you know.

Alex.

hi all
some good questions have come up.
1. Do we meet at the Pelican Isl and just build the raft as people show up? YES
2. What time do you plan the event? FIGURE NOON PLUS OR MINUS AN HOUR
3. Do we pull up to any boat and tie up or is there a specific order you'd like to have? NAH.
4. Do you prefer boats to use specific VHF channel? IS 72 GOOD FOR EVERYONE?
5. What would you like us to bring, if this is like an "open bar" for all, or is this like bring whatever we drink/eat just for our own crowd? THIS IS A BYO TYPE OF EVENT. OWN FOOD, OWN DRINK. IT'S MORE LIKE JUST A CHANCE FOR ALL OF US TO PUT A FACE AND BOAT TO A NAME

-Sigh-

Currently planning on a number of guests at the house that weekend. Probably have just enough capacity on the 280SS for the whole lot. Will see about joining the gang.. . .but if I bring a crowd *that large* to see all your great boats - - -> the peer pressure for me to upgrade to a bigger boat will be immense.

so you're in??
and dont worry abt pressure - my boat's an old POS - it'd be a DOWNGRADE for you!

You need to upgrade in order to maximize your carbon footprint...

I've seen your boat, Ron. It might be older, but it's far from a POS. See my new boat in the BIH thread for a POS.

Best regards,
Frank C

Frank, You mean that's not your Carver?

Can't say Brian. Don't want to spoil the surprise at the event.

Best regards,

Put us down as a strong "maybe" I"m on vacation that week and invited my nephew(who invited his buddy) to stay with us for the week. If I can convince a couple of 15 year old boys that hanging out in the boat is cool.... then we will be there. What's a good remedy for Jellyfish stings? Ron, add us to the count anyways...Brian and Sheree on "Sheree Lynn" a 300DA. (I'm not going to be the smallest boat am I?:)

What's a good remedy for Jellyfish stings?

Alcohol. Not that kind! Anything that dries the sting will work. We have isopropyl alcohol on board for that. I've also used dishwashing detergent and laundry detergent. What ever that's on hand that will clean away the gunk.

Best regards,
Frank

frank - thanks for the compliment. brian - you are IN. no idea if you are smallest but size DOESNT matter - it's the motion in the ocean!

I would LOVE to increase my Carbon footprint by getting a larger boat, with suitably larger engines. . . . .

. . .but I do want to maintain a certain green component. . . at the bank. And a larger boat would also necessitate a larger dock! Maybe even a longer bulkhead (I already have a second boat tied up). The green would disappear quickly under those circumstances.

What a difference one week makes. The weekend of 6/14 the bay was great, but last weekend it was full of jelly fish. Do you guys recall how long they hang around, 2-3 weeks or longer?

we heard reports from two different marina neighbors that the jellies were running in full force on the metedeconk river during the day on saturday. we went out around 6pm for happy hour on the hook in the river and there was not one jelly to be found. the kids even went swimming, which would NEVER happen if there was one measly jelly sighting. i depends on the time of day, the location, the tide and probably other factors we dont understand.

Ron, does it mean that there's a way to pick a safe spot during the jellies season? Is it the rivers? or may be more salty waters with stronger current, like tices?

I rather travel some distance than be afraid to jump in the water.

alex, if there's a pattern to it i dont know of anyone who has figured it out. i really think it's hit or miss/arbitrary. we've been to pelican island and conditions were awesome. we've been there and you could walk to shore on the jellies and not get your feet wet. same with silver bay and the metedeconk. if i had to generalize from my experience on the bay (since spring of 2002), i'd say the saltier and/or cooler waters keep them at bay a bit more effectively.

Their population is increasing every year. 10 years ago I dont remember ever seeing a single one in the bay.
