2008 CSR Barnegat Bay Regatta and Gunkhole Event

Ron, my observation was similar. I guess for the next month we'll need to plan longer trips, which is a good thing in a way :)). Did you see post from Domininc on the other thread? His streiners got clogged up at tices. Man, it's always something.....

my first summer with a boat on this bay (2002) we did a LOT of anchoring out and swimming, and i dont recall ever being confined to the boat b/c of jellies. each year since there were more and more occasions of reaching a destination and not being able to put a toe in the water. i'd have to agree with jon.

i did see that alex. sludge, sea-grass, jellies. just another reason why i've GOT to get out of this state (someday):smt013

hey all
DaveL needs to know if he'll have 5' of water all the way into pelican island. i've been there a buncha times and i know the anchorage area will have enough water but i've never really watched the depth on the way in (i only need 33"). i'm thinking if a 27000lb 420AC drawing 37" can make it in there, his 500DA can.

OK, according to the 2003 500DA owners manual, section 2 - general boat arrangement, sub-section 3 - basic boat dimensions and clearances, item D (draft) dave's boat draws 50" (see fig 2.4.1).

http://www.searay.com/Archives_Manu...wners_manuals/500_Sundancer/500_Sundancer.pdf

i'm fairly certain we'll have 50" of water under us.

can you tell i'm bored??

BTW,

Where behind Pelican Island? Pretty big area from Ortley Beach to Seaside.

BTW, I saw two guys on a PWC towing a a third guy on a tube under the little bridge right near the Seaside shore this weekend. Seeing that the tube was the full 75 feet behind the PWC, and that the passage under the bridge was narrow with quite a bit of traffic, I knew that the show about to begin would be pretty good.

The guy on the PWC was too far west as he was heading north under the bridge, so he moved more towards the east. The tube slowly followed diagonally across the channel. A rental boat full of ... non-boaters was heading south. Being non-boaters, they didn't know what the orange towing flag on the PWC meant, or why a guy would be on a tube 75' behind a PWC, etc.

The guys on the PWC start yelling. The people in the rent-a-bote have no clue, until they see the tow line pass under the bow or the rent-a-bote. Then the start yelling, in Chinese. The tow line wraps around the outboard and starts pulling the tube to the rent-a-boat. The guys on the PWC are trying, in vain, to get turned around, but all they accomplish is to move further north, pulling the tube even closer to the still southbound rent-a-bote. The guy on the tube must be having visions of the outboard meat cleaver turning him into tonight's chow mein, so he jumps of and starts swimming for shore.

Too funny. We don't want to be close to the place that runs the rent-a-bote thing.

Best regards,
Frank C

we have always anchored to the left (as you look at the shore) of the water trampoline rental place. that is pretty far from the bridge and i've never seen any trecherous acts b/c everyone can see where the water toys are anchored and everyone gives them a wide berth.

incidentally, weather looks very good for saturday.

OK ran past there on the PWC last Friday. Easy enough to find. Who's lead anchor? Not that it should matter with that area being so protected.

Best regards,
Frank

Ran/Frank,

I was planning to approach from the ICW channel and cutting east right before TR bridge, then I think a little to the north. If you guys have approximate la/lon numbers that would help

Thx,
Alex.

Follow the buoyed channel markers northeast just before the Rt37/TR bridge, then turn starboard to head south along the channel.

Best regards,
Frank

BTW, has anyone been past the "secret spot" yet this year? Apparently his majesty the governor didn't like the riff raff anchoring near sacred ground so they dumped a few loads of sand and gravel across the mouth. Your tax dollars at work.

Best regards,
Frank C

As Ron knows I am bummed to be missing this event as my wife is the maid of honor is a wedding on Saturday and as I guys know there is no way out of that one. Weather looks great for you guys. I would love to meet everone especially you Frank C since I have been learning from your knowledge and advice for many years going all the way back to the searay.net site.

Frank,
I was there few weeks ago. At that time I had no issues with the channel getting to the spot. I'm not sure if the sand dump was after our visit.
This was our first run to the spot on our 320, it was south wind with some chops. So, as a result we were bouncing while anchored. The passing storm was developing. After staying there for about an hour I made the decision to go to TR to hide from the wind. It was great decision. We felt like it was a different day on a lake.

I was there a few weeks ago and spent the night on the hook. I didn't dink in to shore to check out the Gov's channel, so I can neither deny or confirm.

Where did you get this info from; first hand visual, newspaper, second hand dock talk,.....?

Riding past on the new PWC on Friday.

I was anchored way back in the channel a few weeks ago and noticed nothing except that the "beach restoration" project on the bay side that was started there last year has been expanded. Dont know if that is what you saw or not, but I did not notice any attempt to block the entrance. This may have changed in last few weeks I guess.

alex
regarding finding the anchor spot by pelican island, if you follow the sticks in you cant miss it. i plan on being there by 11am so if you plan oncoming later than that, just look for my boat. there isnt much going on back there and it is NOT a big anchorage.

how do you delete a post gone awry??

Are you going to be monitoring a certain channel? If all goes well we will be there after tubing. You said there are some "water rental thingies" for teenagers there?Better yet maybe I'll just flip them off the tube somewhere in the Metedaconk and just come by with my wife. :)
