I have a mercury and seirra drive gasket set for pulling the outdrive off for service. Both kits have one big squared off o'ring, 2 driveshaft o'rings, one for the water port and the 5th one I don't know what it is for. Thanks for any help.

My 5.7 260hp carb kit came from mercury with a open spread bore carb mounting gasket. It had the closed type on it with four holes in a spread bore pattern. I know the open one will work. Which is better on a stock closed spread bore intake manifold? Thanks.

I just thought I would post a few pics and show a very useful tool. I used this red lifting plate bolted on where the carb goes. Using the middle hole the engine is perfectly level. I used a very nice OTC hoist. This is a 260hp 5.7. This works much better than a sling or chain.

I was getting ready to install a new gasket and O'ring kit on my MR alpha outdrive and was wonder if you should use sealer on the big gimble oring? When I pulled the lower unit I noticed that the old one is sealed in the housing with what looks like brown permatex. Thanks
