Having been victims of a tyrannical government in the past, the good ole boys of the USA aren't about to go quietly to slaughter. Home of the brave , land of the free. Live free or die.

Sounds like Canadian government has it's sheeple exactly where they want them.

Sheeple? (snicker) Well, to each his own. I've got my guns and I don't have to worry about my kid getting shot up at school. So I'm fine with that.

That kid could have killed just as many by pulling the fire alarm then running them down with his PU truck.

You got your guns but can't go anywhere with them legally unless maybe the firing range.

Why would I need to? This isn't the wild west. I don't see any kids running down people with vehicles, do you? If that was a thing then I guess there would be another epidemic to do nothing about right? Anyway, enjoy your "freedom" and have a nice day. :)

Watch the news at all? Many cases of vehicles used as weapon's. You be correct, you can't fix mental illness after the horse is out of the barn. When the nutters lose it, they will use whatever means they can muster.

Another thing about Canada is your pretty much rural. Problems begin with overcrowding. You could contain just about any specie in a tight area and the fighting will begin. I'm trying to have a nice day , thanks. 85* in swfl., going for a boat ride.

I believe a major part of this issue, which every one seems to ignore is Money In Politics! Why should the NRA have so much sway over our elected officials? Or any other big money group? If Congress truly represented the people of the US, there would be background checks-with no loop holes, and Assault rifles would be banned. A recent poll found most people want stricter gun control laws, so why aren't lawmakers enacting these laws? http://www.pollingreport.com/guns.htm

We in Indiana follow all federal gun laws. That the citizens of Illinois cannot act legally is not our fault. We do not want Illinois Unconstitutional gun laws...

Bu77sh!t!!! Fake News!!! Federal law prohibits the sale of a gun to anyone across state lines. Therefore if a person from Illinois wanted to buy a gun in Indiana they would have to make their deal then have the gun shipped to an FFl in Illinois and go through Federal and or Illinois background checks.

Indiana gun laws are not lax. We just do not have the Unconstitutional barriers Illinois has. Funny, Indianapolis should be awash in issues because of the "lax" laws...

The anti-gun crowd and the media cannot get the NRA's power. It is NOT money, it is well documented that they do not contribute that much money. So, what is it? It is the power they wield when their members vote. They are a passionate voting block and their power is multiplied thousands of times by non-members that care and vote with them but don't pay dues.

You mean the same type of polling that predicted Hillary would win...

    Mike,
That's for legal purchasers of the weapons thru a dealer. The legal process through a dealer is generally pretty robust and includes the required background checks. That is not what I was referring to.

My understanding is the penalties for doing illegal "straw" purchases in Indiana is much less than in IL. These are typically private sales of stolen weapons. "Lax" may be an incorrect word and I used it in comparison to Illinois laws/penalties for people making "straw" buys. I understand that Illinois has a relatively tough penalty for people gathering weapons to sell to the gangbangers.

Exactly, voting power "Trumps" money every day of the week, and twice on election day. Pun intended.

This made me chuckle. There are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Unless you are poling the entire population of a study, you are not getting the true picture. "Oh hey, let's poll everyone walking down this street in Los Angeles to see how they feel about gun control." That's the kind of polls who want gun control and Hillary Clinton elected.

Reading posts above, I have no problem raising the legal age to purchase a long rifle from the age of 18 to 21. I also have no problem banning modifications to make an AR-15 fully automatic. However, I do have a problem with the federal government making the AR-15 illegal. It's a small caliber hunting/recreational rifle with "cosmetic" appliances making it look "military". Punishing the masses due to a few persons mentally challenged choice is asinine.

You would flip flop like a politician soon as another Hitler or Stalin comes along. When elections end and tyrants reign.

Chicago Police: "60% of all guns in Chicago come from Indiana, Wisconsin, and Mississippi."

And no matter how you want to spin it, Indiana has some of the weakest gun laws of any state in the US. Also, Chicago does not have some of the "strictest gun laws in the country" like the NRA always likes to (falsely) point out as an argument as to how gun control doesn't work. New York City and LA have far stricter gun laws, and homicides in those cities are at near record lows.

To that end Vancouver has had 6 homicides in 2018 so far, and that's actually up from 2017 when we had 19 for the year.

It wouldn't matter if 100% of guns come from Indiana into Illinois, it still proves anti-gun laws do not work. If they did, the "weakest" gun law states and cities would have the highest gun murder rates (not gun death rate - completely different parameter). When you disarm citizens, you are not disarming criminals.

I think many other countries and cities would argue they do work, and have the proof and statistics to back it up.

Correlation, not causation. You assume it's the lack of guns. Other countries may handle mental illness cases better, improved child parenting, teachers not getting cussed out or disciplined when they correct school children, lower percentage of broken homes, higher percentage of father influence, etc. There are so many other factors than to assume it's guns alone.

MM is correct, even in the case of private seller across state lines it must go through FFL holder and the checks.

You have a misunderstanding of 'Straw Purchase'. A straw purchase is an otherwise legal purchase(legal buyer, legal gun, legal seller, legal checks), with one exception.....the buyer is not really buying it for himself, he is buying it for someone who is unable to legally purchase/possess a firearm on their own.

I may have the semantics incorrect as far as "straw purchase"... the fact is (from the Chicago Police department) many of the guns used by the gangs were stolen weapons from Indiana and other states that were brought back here to Illinois. The gangs do not go shopping in Indiana - one person acquires these weapons (Illegally as they are stolen) and brings them back to Chicago and sells them for cash to the gang members. Bottom line - similar to the quote above - someone else is buying these weapons for someone who cannot legally purchase a firearm. The difference is all the transactions are illegal, there is no legal sale from a legal seller.

I understand the legalities of private party sales across state lines. I have owned a number of weapons over the years.

Straw purchases are governed by Federal Law and the same for all states. An audit of federal firearms background checks under Obama found that prosecutions for prohibited persons, attempting to buy firearms, fell to a new low. US Attorneys Office, part of the Obama administration, policy was the reason noted for the drop. From 08-15 the FBI denied over a half million purchases but only 254 were ordered for prosecution, a 0.04 prosecution rate.

Think the existing criminal element will not try to buy guns at that rate?

And from the most recent post, Illinois criminals steal guns in Indiana and it is Indiana's fault?
