Unions are good?

This is my private PM to "Twomad"

Twomad

Just so you know, your posts are in the holding tank.

Your statement:
"I can't believe the language and various names that i have been called on this post by various people INCLUDING BY THE TOP POSTER ON THIS FORUM that person doesn't belong on a boating forum, and now that i think of it he started this post to pick a fight with a union worker like me, there are some angry non-union people on this site and i wish that i didn't come across that post, this forum has been a very big help with my classic sea ray and i enjoy 99% of my time here tonite was not fun, any help with this situation would be great thank you"

Does not hold enough water to float your boat. You did not have to enter the conversation, you choose to and got bashed for it. Just what did you think was going to happen?

This is a free board with areas to talk about boating and areas to talk trash. The holding tank is that place. If you go in there again either toughen up and take your lumps like everyone else or stay out of it.

Thank you

Stihlbolts

What is that old saying, you have not seen anything yet.
Just wait until the middle of the winter.

I guess what drives me over the edge are people with this attitude:

...but rather a greedy business owner that dislikes unions because they keep you in check and share your wealth

Frankly, it's just unbelievable. There is no limit on the number of "business owners" the country allows and if you want to start your own business, then by all means... DO IT! Nothing should stop anyone. You don't need a lot of money to start a business... You just have to have a good idea, work hard (very hard), sacrifice everything, work hard, sacrifice more, work harder, work longer, stay motivated, work harder, etc..

Then you have people that come out of the sidelines and say you are "greedy" and need to "share your wealth". It's just UN-FREEKIN-BELEIVABLE!

I guess it's easier to sit on the sidelines and try to confiscate (i.e. steal) things from people because they "got it easy."

I say if you don't want to join in on the fun and run a company, shut your pie hole. If you don't like your job, vote with your feet and leave and go start your own business or get a better job. Either way, you can do what you want and don't have to steal from people trying to play by a free country's rules.

I'm actually well known in a certain large software company for rounding up the troops and giving a little speech. Here were a bunch of people with an average salary over 100K/year... one night I called a manager because we had a problem with a customer site (a large phone company) and a bug of ours crashed their network. The woman said to me "I'm off the clock and 5:00 pm and I would appreciate you not calling me). I fired her. I then got everyone together and said "For every one of you that work here, 3 want your job and 2 are probably more qualified. If you make as much money as you do, the company can call you at any hour and if you don't like it, there's the door." How's that for motivation?

I will say that the holidays have a special meaning for our family. Fourteen years ago at Christmas, my two oldest boys and my very pregnant (8 months) wife slept on the concrete floor in my first business that was about to go bankrupt. Our Christmas dinner consisted of a package of hot dogs my wife cut up into chunks and stuck toothpicks in them and Microwaved them. We squeezed out ketchup and mustard packets from Wendy's onto paper plates and had our hot dog dinner with the kids... on a cold concrete floor in a warehouse. And now you want me to share my wealth? Kiss my a$$. We now share our wealth with many charities and it's our family's choice... not a bunch of lazy bozos saying they need to keep me "in check."

GW- I can sympathize. Been there. Done That. Was Moderately Successful. Did That Again. Was Moderately Successful. Did That Again. Was Moderately Successful. Did That Again. Now we're cooking with gas and only eat hot dogs when we want.

toobad, twomad, sosad. You show up here and before you get to your 10th post, you have managed to insult half the folks on this forum. Not exactly the way to make new friends. I'll bet you're a blast at parties.

I agree with G-man. Kiss my non-union a$$.

Gary...in addition to the items mentioned above you need to add a little luck. +1 on everything else.

I wouldn't make a very good union person..........I only care how much I make not how much everyone else makes.

Oh ya, just wait until "cabin fever" sets in and the fur starts to fly. Once the boats hit the water in the Spring, things tend to quiet down quite a bit ... and so the cycle continues.

This set me off too, the first full year in business every penny went back into growing the business, my wife was laid off and we were living on her severance pay which wasn’t much, I quite my job to start this business so I wasn’t collecting unemployment.

I have a feeling that with your attitude the only thing keeping you employed is the union, I don’t think you would make it with out them, so good for you.

By the way all the technicians that work for me now are from a union shop, as they got laid off I hired them.

The company I work for employs 300ish union members from 8 stores. I’ve been a union member for this one company for 25 plus years and served as shop steward through a few contract negotiations. There are deuch bag members and managers alike. One of my first grievances I defended involved both. I ended up making a stand up speech explaining that we as a union provide a service, and it is this commodity that the company manages to make a profit. Both member and manager of that grievance have long gone now and it seems my speech influenced me more than anyone that day.

Today in these hard times we are a very tight shop just trying to survive. My brothers and I treat our customers equipment as our own doing every thing possible to keep there business profitable, as this is where the money comes from that goes into our paychecks. Our two managers work some pretty long hours just getting in the little work we have. We are the only union shop of our kind in our area and several competitors have closed there doors. The areas customer base pie keeps getting smaller but our piece of that pie keeps growing, so what we are doing is working. In our little world a union and company team is working. Our managers have taken some pretty heavy concessions lately and my brothers and I all know our turn is coming this contract. What are we gona do, strike for more wages and health care? No were gona hunker down.

I don’t care about the gramer and spelling with in cause that is not where my skills are honed. I’m not a business owner or ceo either but I wouldn’t take apples off my diet because my local farmer had a bad crop!

Wow, this holding tank, wheres the fan? Cheers …Ron

I don't lump all union members in with Allentown union official Nick Balzano anymore than I associate all business owners with Bernie Madoff. There are good and bad in all walks of life, some just don't get it.
