Tropical Storm Ian Prediction as of 0200 EDT.

We went to check on the boat yesterday and the marina was locked up I was able to look over the wall and it looks like only damage to the marina racks was one top rack a section buckled and the boat looked like it was falling off the rack. we’re on the bottom rack and looks like all the boats stayed where they where.
the surrounding neighborhood didn’t fair well at all. It’s utter deviation just outside the marina wall it’s like a tornado went up and down every street I can’t recognize anything I feel so bad for the people they where cutting trees and dragging belongings out of the rubble makes you think boats are just a large piece of fiberglass that’s all they are.

No insurance boat, house or motorcycle I just suck it up, Some call it self insured. Who would expect a cat 4 direct hit?
Sorry to hear that, but I get it. You've probably saved more in the last few years in premiums than the cost of a boat engine. Anyway you slice it, it's still a personal loss.

I'll probably need a new motorView attachment 134779
Ugh, after all that crawling around and lifting to get to the starter.

Beach House faired well being in Bradenton, spending the couple of days stuck in the mud. Hard to sink a boat that has no water under it. And of course, it would have wound up in Arcadia if the original track held.
The number of tailorable boats that stay in the water here astounds me, but hey, I'm just the Dockmaster.

My story is the 5th wheel we purchased in March, and renovated, which is located at the top of one of the canals in NE Charlotte Harbor (up from the Riviera Restaurant if you know that). This is about 1/2 mile down US 41 from Jim Cantore's dance with the eye wall(s). So, the rig, the dock, and my neighbors there got the eye wall, and presumably the strongest winds. The funny thing, is, I expected the surge to just wash away everything, and had no expectation of more than a blank lot. The result was no surge at all (was I too close in the eye to get one?), and the winds on the back wall did all the rearranging of everyone's property. I had a Rubbermaid shed in the back yard, which exploded, like most others, and left the contents mostly intact. Weird. The chair frames were waiting for new cushions being made to match the RecPro tri-fold we bought. I was contemplating sanding off the 1992 varnish and re-doing them. When I recovered them from the shed pile, they were totally stripped, and only need a light sanding to be ready for new varnish. Unbelievable. A few things fell in the canal when the shed popped, but most of the stuff was still in the yard, or the shed base. Power tools, probably a goner, except a Harbor Freight Bauer cordless screw gun I used to put the Deck-Top on the old dock. Found it in the rubble, and it's still working. Brand new Pit Boss Competition smoker, upside down in the front yard. That took some wind. I think it might be ok. Back down tomorrow to finish cleaning up other people's debris. Don't know how, but we look basically unscathed. Harbor Freight 10x20 canopy ripped off the rib. The Big LCD on the wall is fine. It moved a bit down the mount. Just crazy.....

Oh, and the Portofino is in the Landings marina on the river in Ft. Meyers. Just down from the Legacy. Lost the canvas. Boat is fine. Breakwater? Maybe......

My friends red 320 dancer was found.......on land. He said the cabin and engine compartment were totally fine with no water. The outside is pretty beat up. Windshield all smashed and bow rail mostly torn off. Swim platform has a chunk out of it. Can't tell how bad the running gear is. I really feel bad for him.
Most likely I'm sure it's a write off. Out of respect for him I will not post the pictures he sent me of it but she sure did take a beating and was still secured to 3 pilings broken off and drug up on land with it. The force of the Strom is unbelievable. Unfortunately he believes that there will be quite a few body's that will be found for the ones that didn't leave the beach area.

We live on the river here in Fort Myers took about 6 foot of water still stayed out of the house flooded my garage. The boat came through great. I had a tied up at the dock I used the pylons instead of the cleats.

we were blessed

Was your canvas up during the storm? Or did you just put it back?
I left a Bimini up and it ripped the Bows out
Thankfully, I have the canvas, the bows, and the extensions should be a pretty easy fix I’ll thru bolt them

one dock rash and it finally removed the crappy anchor lite lol

Great news Neal! I was worried abouit you as we are so close. We've still heard nothing from our condo at North Star Yacht Club up the street. Still no power. You must have power, internet/cell back?

We are planning on driving down Oct 23rd.

Carter, I was thinking about calling you but like you said service is horrible. We still have no power and powerlines cross the road coming into our neighborhood I know my cousin is at marina town and they lost their roof and of course the marina is a disaster.

We got power yesterday afternoon… no Report yet on what our condo might look like.

But sure where you are but a friend of mine from Dallas has a condo in the buildings next to rum runners. Said they only had some water seepage in their master bedroom. Rest of the interior was fine. Surrounding area was a mess tho.

Not gonna say anything you Florida folks don’t know.
The guy owns our marina has a Boat, salvage, rescue unit. Chesapeake Marine Service. All certified diver etc. Sent it and crew down there a few days ago, I talked to him today. He said the crew went planning a few days, now maybe months down there. He trying to buy more boats and hire crews to send. The damage his crew is reporting back is far beyond anything you see on 6pm news. These guys said it’s so fkd up they barely know where to begin. It’s chaos.

I was in Florida early part of the week. Had some maintenance that has been scheduled for a long time, waiting on parts before we did a short haul for the day.

Everyone I talked to had stories from "down south". Either family or close friends. The stories of utter destruction was heart breaking.

Clearwater area was normal, nothing amiss, you would have never known just looking around there was a storm the week before. Granted it was 140 miles south.

Carter are you still at Tarpon point? Saw this video of the marina pop up on FB today......those who have FB perhaps the link will work.

Thanks Dave,

Fortunately, Reward is in her "Hurricane Hole" at the Chattanooga Yacht Club. I don't think she will get back to FL for at least 3 more years...

The twin blue hulled boat is the Westin's beach transport, and she is upside down in our (empty) slip!!
