The President Said, Hire those who are on long term unemployment

My problem solver is an Legally administered Attendance Policy. Have to do it for all employees w/ training and effective dates. When you need to weed out some bad apples they work great. Problem is I have friend who did this in June and the employee lost UC. It was appealed to federal court and although it was pointed out that the employee knew it was his last chance and he blew it. The Fed's put him on unemployment...

JITTS3 Steve- Love the story. I do go out of my way to help employees. We are small shop and from time to time I help w/tires to day care. I usually let them make a payment back and give the money right back. If I can help a young couple out I will. It is the single guys bar star guys I weed out and pass by.

Had a young guy once who was eager and a hard worker. Once he caught on he kept up w/ the pro's. We decided to quickly raise his pay as we could not be with out his talents. The next week he quit. He now made enough that his government benefits would cease. You see he said, My Grandma raised me. She has never worked. She gets monies and health care with out her paying any into it. This raise will cause my checks to stop for my Baby. Never knew he was a dad. True Story. How Friggn sad.

Woody,
Thats great that you make it in during heavy snow storms. I'm sure having a plow set uup is a huge help! My driveway is about 125' by about 20' wide. Last year when we got 30" of snow it took me 10 f*#king hours to snow blow & shovel it clear! I own my own business but needless to say, if I had to punch a clock there was no way it was going to happen. Plus, what about the kids? The schools close for that kind of snow here. Lots of 2 income families on Long Island. At least one of the parents has to bang in just to watch the children.
So, although there are definitely abusers & gold bricks, many people have legitimate reasons for missing work after a blizzard.
I remember when you had that. You were debating whether or not to get a plow truck I think. I recommended this for grass cutting and snow removal in your tight quarters...what did you end up getting? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb6H3ayIpeA

It pisses me off when people who never owned a company, had a steady job, or worked a hard day give advice about how to run a business. I hear blah blah blah, then silence, because I stop listening.

Hmmmm, wonder who that is? Was he on tv recently? Telling everyone what HE's going to do with or without OUR permission? All dreams and no action from this guy and they made fun of Bush? What a joke

Holy crap Woody! That thing is awesome! What does a set up like that run? I was looking at 1/2 ton crew can trucks then found out last minute none of them were rated for a plow, even if I special ordered one. So, I ended up In a two year lease of a ford escape, don't ask why! Lol

I remember the description you gave of your driveway. It was tight for a truck and where to put the snow was a problem. If your using a truck you have to have room to put snow. Something like I posted would work good for you. If you have a little lawn get a mower deck and you can kill to birds with one stone....besides every guy should have a 4 wheel drive lawnmower. That's not mine in the video but I do have one like it. I don't have the snow blower because I don't need it but I know people that do and have seen them work. I'm not real current on costs but the rig in the video will likely be in the 13K range.

That just about sums up the UK nicely and one of the main reasons we left. At one point recently it had the highest illegitimate rate in the western world as girls earned more by just producing babies for the rest of us to pay for! I think after the third one they even got their own furnished home. Most had different fathers of course..... it's nice to ring the changes. Now it's getting as bad here!

The western suburbs of Sydney is like that, you see the girls pushing the prams to school at the end of the day to meet daddy.

An old joke is an interview with one of these ladies with 8 children, all called Johnny, because she liked the name Johnny, and you only had to call the one name and they would all come..

But what do you do if one of them has been naughty and you need to chastise him.?

Oh then I yell out his surname.

IMHO you need to look and rate each and every applicant on their own merit. Yes I'm sure there is some long term unemployed people that are not worth any thing, but then again there is a bunch of qualified long term unemployed that are just looking for a living waged job.

The western suburbs of Sydney is like that said:
That's both funny and sad at the same time. I don't know what the world's coming to, but if the pendulum doesn't soon swing in the other direction of personal responsibilty, pride
and stop this kind of stuff which is a result of too liberal policies which are taken advantage of we are all doomed. These children born into this type of sub-culture of society rarely do anything but just keep perpetuating it. The rest of us who pay a bunch in taxes can't keep affording it.

I agree. I've called in 1 day in the past 2 years at my current job. Sucks that my hardwork pays for others to be lazy.
I've been out 2 days in the last 13 years..1 I was so sick I couldn't walk and the other we had 20" of snow over night and I COULD make it the 50 miles to work but the police wouldn't let me due to level 3 snow emergency in all 4 counties I had to drive through
(btw..I made it into county #2 before being threatened with arrest  )

I see no need to hire someone who hasn't had a job for 1.5-2 years...it's because THEY didn't want one.
I have 2 positions between 30-40K per year I still can't give away :smt009

First, I have Obama in my neighborhood today, Then, Last Dollar mention Hillary in his post... Now my fuse is not only lit it is close to the bomb.

That maybe true in your area, but i can tell you that is not the case in my area. There in lies part of the problem. You have some area with jobs and no people then you have other area with people and no jobs. It is not like they can just pick up and move. Cant carry two house and or house rent payments on 40K a year.

:thumbsup:Every where I go I see adults doing what used to be kid jobs, stocking shelves, bagging groceries, handing out the bag of burgers through the drive in window. We've got a good winter for recreation up north, normally we're flooded with people, things has changed, it's deader than a doornail, just like the summer boating. It got tuff for a lot of people out there.

Chuck, I understand what you are saying. I had to move to Pa to follow a good job with bennies and retirement. There was nothing in western NC that could match my current package. Right after the Keowee raft up we attended I got the word and we made the hard choice to move. Had I not had the strong support of my employer (they paid for everything) I would be looking for a position with someone.

The difference is I would be working for myself instead of waiting for unemployment. I have never stopped just because I didn't have an office to go to every morning.

I have been without an employer on many occasions but I have always gone to work. I have collected unemployment one time for 2 month and my job during that time was finding a job. I did in sales at a local equipment company and stayed there 6 years until being hired by the company I work for now. Been with this one for 9 years and don't look to leave any time soon.

I do feel for folks who can't work and would support ways to help them. Sad to say I believe this is not the case with most out of work.

Most of the company’s I've worked for never had an ad in the paper. I went in, pushed my positives and ended up with a job. Was I the department head? Sometimes yes most times no but at least I was working towards a goal.

Just my opinion and respect all others.

Yep have to agree with you on most items Bill. Not saying we need to keep just dishing out unemployment. Just saying that we need to look at each one on their own merit. Woody hit the head on the nail with his comment about how many mature (Nice way of saying old) folks are doing the jobs meant for kids. Those job were never meant to be a living wage job but that is what so many are having to live on. Until we get living wages jobs back and companies that are going to work with their employees and help train as new and improved tools come online we are going to have these problems. Kinda like the manufacturing companies that says they cant find skilled employees because they have not used the specific tool/machine. Show them how to use the tool and put them to work. Kinda like all the hoopla the other day about the big new training college that was opening up and how it was going to train/retrain all the people so they could get a job. Bull, in a couple years there will be new machines/tools that industry is using. Teach them general thinking skills and let industry teach them the specific machines as they are needed. Just my 2 cent worth. Sorry I will get off my soap box now. What ever happened with on the job training.

Chuck,
I offer on the job training for someone with aptitude and full corporate benefit program
My big problem is like with Bill...Mechanics are never without a job unless they choose to be.
Drawing unemployment from someone and making a grand a week doing sidework under the table
with no reciepts...hard to compete with that. Seems the only people that apply to me are those
running out of benefits and those "needing" paystub so thier child support can be automatically
garnished.....many "baby daddies" out there....and those are the ones that will steal work right out of the bays
to do at home...sad

Pretty much the same thing around here with adults and work.
Marina has more and more slips open every year.
We are thinking the slow winter though is helped by snow everywhere and gas prices being so high. Why drive north 2 to 3 hours when you can sled out your back door.
