as boat owners , will it really affect us.............no. its not really bothering some of us one way or the other. this is an informative site. a place where we get together and discuss everything but those two subjects. we all differ when they come into play. i really dont care what your political or religious thoughts are. , keep them to yourself. lets just keep doing what we do, boating. we have our own world. keep it sacred. keep it beautiful. most of all keep it civilized

Been a long time but three subjects that were forbidden to discuss on Naval & CG vessel wardrooms were "women, religion, & politics". Not sure if this still applies to current military vessels.
Holding tank is best location for these things on CSR.

I think her pigs name is Barney (Frank)!

Pig's name is Ko-Jac and he was actually a gift to cpt sundancer, who is a man with very conservative views. He just married a bleeding heart liberal. Makes life interesting at times!

Ko-Jac well he is a smart pig, he stays out of politics, religion and butcher shops!

Is that all you guys want to talk about is this dumb a$$ pig,

You guys have posted nothing about anything else but this walking ham hocks. :smt001

Just saying.

Tell him to keep up the good work. We assigned him to be your designated vote canceller. :smt043

The real root of the problem is that everybody's Sea Ray is in tip top shape and we are all shrink wrapped. We have nothing to fix, and we can't go boating. What's left to do but to make fun of the libs?

Chaps…this is a US orientated public forum open to all internet users with, lets face it, relatively unrestricted membership criteria. Censorship or any other form of suppression of speech which may be considered objectionable or inconvenient to any particular group of people would not only seem to be unconstitutional, but also virtually impossible to enforce. If you want to control content on this site then admin needs to censor it - which means all “submitted posts” are vetted either manually or electronically before being “posted”, or access needs to be restricted by “vetting” “members”.

Sorry to say this guy, but what is being proposed here is censorship which is unconstitutional. And Jim, I know you own this site, but making it public means that you have to accept freedom of speech. I haven’t recently read the “terms of use” for the site, but even so I don’t think you can so easily “contract out” of someone’s constitutional rights.

Moreover…if this is where one comes to find a bunch of “like minded” chaps to interact with on a particular issue, i.e. boating, then don’t you think it is reasonable to explore the possibility that they may also be likeminded on other issues like politics and religion?

And lets not forget that there are “non-likeminded” wing!ess idiots here who freely post more objectionable dribble about their 40 years of engine/boating experience. I would rather read a reasonable discussion about the local county wanting to tax Gary’s dogs or Obama wanting to give next years boat gas money to the poor than listen to some idiot tell Frank that he doesn’t know anything about oil filters – not to say that the later was not an entertaining read – and also lets not forget that the longest and more interesting threads on this site have NOT been about boating per se!!!!! .

Have you not all noticed that the site only comes alive when the topic strays from boating issues. I doubt that 50% of members could say that 50% of their post relate strictly to boating even though they may be posted in a boating related thread. Even this thread has strayed from it original “boating related” topic to the completely un-boating – but seasonally related (i.e. Christmas ham) subject of pigs.

Just my two cents - but what do I know, I am a Moron!

Happy New Year.

Sorry, I've been playing tennis on the beach all week. I'll post a pic soon.

I can't believe the "yes" votes are up to 39%
Just don't read the "holding tank" threads....geesh!

OK, here is my decision (as if I need to make a decision lol). Political and religious and whatever other controversial things can be talked about in the Holding Tank. Everything else will go in the non-password protected open part of the forum. If you don't want to read the political stuff then don't go into the holding tank.

Good Job:thumbsup::thumbsup: Now where's "copy-n-paste" Pack:smt021

Yes, anything that has nothing to do with boating should not be on this board. i'm sure they have boards for people to discuss religion, politics and to post jokes amoung other things. When I come here it's to see whats happening in the boating world.

What's more interesting is that save for JimM, not one of the no voters has shared their reasoning for banning said conversations. Sad.

I have to admit I voted "No", so I do not understand why I need to comment, but if a comment is needed, post number 51 in this thread pretty well sums it up for the most part for my "No" vote.

:huh:Damn I get a warm fuzzy and cold chills knowing so many others are concerned about my well being. I sleep so much better, and yes this is being a bit sarcastic. Though not to you sferguson, just in general for my answer

Censorship, and more gov-mint NOT! :smt100

It's easy to say "just don't go into the holding tank." And that's good advice if you don't like politics, etc. But in many other forums I'm on, what I have observed is that it inevitably spills out into the other threads. The attitudes and feelings created in political forums towards others will often cause rifts, or less than favorable opinions about each other, and that carries into other threads too. So if someone gets butthurt or angry at someone in a political thread, it is human nature to retaliate in some form against whoever made them angry where ever else they may post, regardless of what part of the board they are in.

I think that may be a reason for many of the "yes" votes. Many just come here to discuss boating related stuff, and don't want the site cluttered up with stuff that can possibly cause trouble.

That's my .02

Freedom of speech is a constitutional right.

There is no right to be heard.
There is no right to be protected from free speech.
There is no right to be provided a forum on which to speak.

IMHO, if you are offended by any form of free speech, don't read it.

Your 100% right about human nature, but that will occur with or without the actual "holding tank for political posts"....see pig post...you could gather from her posts which way she leaned politically as with the way many people post. So you might as well have a place to "hash" it out and get it out of your system then move on!!!
