Select EX Thread

Re: 270 Select EX Thread

when you overnight you just sleep under the stars or you have a canopy system??

JL

We just put up the full canvas set - bimini + aft canvas, curtains + bow cover. Plug the little holes that let mosquitoes in and turn on a battery / 12V fan on hot nights. I sleep on a 3/4 length backpacking pad, the Admiral sleeps on the aft seat. In the morning, I make cafe Italiano (a big pot of espresso) using a pocket rocket backpacking stove and a stove top Italian espresso maker. The 17-in Magma grill mounted to the swim platform handle provides ribeyes, veggies etc. for our evening meal.

To provide "mood lighting" I've stuck those hockey puck LED lights under the helm and passenger seats. Sexy.

Another tip for SLX owners: Install an oscillating fan in the head compartment. You wouldn't believe what a difference it makes on hot days.

Re: 270 Select EX Thread

Very good tips, Dennis.

Just a quick idea... has anyone put an inflatable on their SLX? QUOTE]

I bought an inflatable kayak, a cheap one, and it's a big hit with kids. Plus, I can fish from it and reach all the hidey holes. I could leave it blown up on the swim platform but generally just pack it on board on those days I plan to use it. Mine is a Sevylor, not the Tahiti, but a discontinued one designed for scuba diving. The very best inflatable kayaks are from the Czech Republic where kayaking is the national passtime, if you're interested in getting something fancy. Who needs a motor?

Thanks for all the tips Dennis.

It was a great boating day here! Hoping for another good one tomorrow.

Re: 270 Select EX Thread

Yes, it does stay cold. Of course, how cold depends on how often you open it.

It will not run while under the cockpit cover on hot days as it has that safety built in to shut it off when ambient temps exceed 110 F. So, leaving the thing on while we're not boating in the summer is not an option.

We got very used to having the thing and it's a convenience. Since it's small, it doesn't always eliminate the need for a cooler on board.

When overnighting on the hook, I turn it down a bit and turn the battery selector over to just one battery. In the morning, I still have enough battery to start the boat. If I leave it on overnight on the coolest setting, it will run the one battery down in about 9 hours.

Dennis

I'm so jealous . Our fridge doesn't cool at all . The little freezer does a little bit . Something isn't right . It doesn't help that we often exceed 110 here .

While cruising do you always run both batteries ?

Yes. I believe that has been the consensus of most people on the site.

Greetings from a new 250 SLX owner. I recently traded our 2002 240SD 6.2l for a "NEW" never titled 2007 250 SLX with 6 hours on the meter. The 240SD gave us 8 great years and 350 trouble free hours so I am not sure why I traded other than this was a great deal and the 250 has the 496 with Corsa Exhaust. With that said, I have a question that concerns two of the most important aspects of our boating life, the beverage cooler and the trash can for the empties. Do other 250s or any 270's have problems pulling the cooler out without hitting the door frame? Is the trash can supposed to be mounted under the cooler? It will not even come out of its holder to empty out. No offense to SR ,but the cooler/trash can installation is getting a failing grade. I guess I was spoiled with the sundeck. I hope to post some pictures late this week-end when we go back to KY.

Welcome to the club. Please add your boat information to your signature.

The cooler hits the frame on ours as well. You learn to lift and pull after the first few times. Our trash can is removable.

Have a good rest of the week as well.

I found the best way to upload pictures is to upload one at a time to http://www.tinypic.com and then copy+paste the code for Forums or Message Boards!

Good luck

welcome . I also recently traded in my 240 SD but for a 270 SLX . Big mistake . I am still wondering why i paid so much more money for an inferior boat...maybe for of the looks ?

Wassim, Please don't misunderstand, I love this boat also. I loved the layout of the SD but I love the looks, speed, sound and the rear sun pad on the SLX. I wanted to wait on a 2010 Sundeck, but the cost would be to high and it would still look like a deck boat. I was always hooked on speed and loud pipes until we got the SD. I guess now that My son is older, we wanted something that would stand out more and my wife went along with it. I have received nothing but compliments on the SLX from most guys. The women prefer the SD. Go Figure. I bet we end up with a SD in about 5-6 years when my wife gets tired of me going fast. It is a sign of a good marrige when my wife has allowed me to indulge in 9 boats since we got married in 1988.

check out this anchor pull with windlass!!!!! wtf???? all was well as I relaxed on the lake in a cove by myself until I pulled up the anchor. It flipped over onto my bow!!!!! slight gash in gelcoat, but about an hour of sweat with vice grips :smt021getting that bitch loose from a jammed chain and after about 5 breaker flips and a broke allen wrench (POS) !!!!!!!!:smt013

That's to bad. I think Sea Ray knows that the windlass set-up on the 270 is inferior to the set-up on the 250 and 300. You think they would change it...

I know..... oh well... I still have about 20 days left on my warranty. I only bought the extended engine and outdrive warranty as that is where 'da money is. So my Sea Ray guy is going to come check it out. It won't release the anchor so if the windlass is gone at least that will be covered. Won't fix it being an inferior set up, but at least it won't be out of pocket either...........for now :smt013

I never had ONE SINGLE PROBLEM with my windlass on my 280 sundancer.... no ropes getting knotted, anchor flying around, turned upside down.......... nothing.
