Select EX Thread

Re: 270 Select EX Thread

I don't understand what you mean here... sorry

if you keep your boat in the water for some time an algae type will start growing on the hull of the boat which increases friction so your speed will drop.
To avoid that you have to scrape the boat and apply a special paint below the water line to keep the foul away . Give it a try .

Re: 270 Select EX Thread

yes religiously . I am told i should also dry it , i think it's nonsense , i never had to that in the past .

Hmmm.. after spraying down the boat, we don't dry it either. Have you tried any products to (try to) eliminate/minimize the rust?

Re: 270 Select EX Thread

Why doesn't my windlass sit properly? When it is in the "stowed" position, all the way up, the more I cruise around, the anchor seems to lower itself several inches. When I dock my boat, I realize that the anchor is hanging relatively low. I can't figure out how to prevent this? It is "latched" properly; so I don't think its gonna go anywhere, but it certainly is a pain when pulling into our slip...

Any ideas?

My ladder and one of my trim tabs were replaced due to rust. Now all of my thru hulls and the rub rail are rusting. MM is going to look at it. I bought some rust stain remover that does a decent job, but it's just not right. It begs the question: When is stainless steel not really stainless?

Very good point , exactly what i asked the dealer . His claim is that it's normal being so close to the sea and sold me some polish . It's the 1st time i see that in a boat and i've owned quite a few .
Anyone else facing the same ?

Wassim, sorry I cannot help you with your question. However, I am very intrigued by your boating location ... seems like a very interesting area.

Do you have any photos of the area that you wouldn't mind sharing with us?

unfortunately i don't have any interesting photos handy .
i live half way around the globe from you .
I can send you some photos but it'll be a while , our summers are very harsh here , 80 to 90% humidity and 110 to 120F so we don't winterize , we'"summerize" our boats around here .
It's very interesting for fishing and boating but the scenery is nowhere near what i see in your photos .

I launched a thread on another forum and this is what i got kind courtesy of Henry Boyd , thought you would be interedted in reading :

"There are many grades of stainless steel, and many do rust. For example, many automotive exhaust systems are made with what is called 'muffler grade' (Muffler in US english means the same as Silencer in UK english) stainless steel does rust, just not as fast as mild steel.

The basic problem is that the materials that make stainless rust free also make it softer and weaker. The balance is to get rust resistance while maintaining a level of material strength.

That's the metallurgy lesson for today. About your boat, it is possible the 'rust' level is normal, but the term is subjective based on your view. Since I can't tell from a text message how much is rusted, I suggest to get photos and send them to the dealer, or whoever is handling your warranty issues.

Henry "

Okay! Sounds like very harsh summers, for sure. What about the man-made islands in Dubai? "The World" islands?

I'm down the road in Abu Dhabi . We have around 200 natural islands .
Dubai : the world , the universe , Jumeirah palm island , jebel ali palm island and deira palm island...only Jumeirah palm is actualy finished and habitable we can't get too close with boats though

That seems very exciting. Any photos?

Thanks,

It must just need to be replaced? Sounds like we got a bad windlass  . After each trip, I have to raise the windlass before docking, regardless of if I have used it or not. Usually, I have to lift the windlass up manually, once docked, while someone pushes the "up" button, for it to actually hold tight. With that said, it only "holds tight" until we go out again and hit a few waves :smt009

Anyway, in all seriousness, I hope everyone will post some pictures!
