OK I will bite...Green balls, red balls, blue balls?

How many points do you start with? and how do you find out if you get negative points or not? my thing just says you have 41 reputation points. I have no idea if that is a good thing or bad thing or maybe it doesn't matter thing.

Not that wish2fish does not deserve it I think he makes great post but you just giving him love because he said he did not have any points does exactly what you are against when you make this statement. Wait for something helpful then say hey thanks wish2fish here is a green point.

"Perhaps it should be changed from a reputation system to a credibility/knowledge system...is this person credible or just full of sh&^t."

wish2fish - I am not pointing you out on this at all. Just trying to make a point and I know you will get it.

Thought of that before I did it...his reply " I say the system doesn't work!" did add value to me, I agree with it, so I gave him a point.

Wes;

Can you comment on this? Is it true?

It actually depends on the reputation of the person that is giving you points. If a person with a lot of points hits you with a negative it will take more points away from you. I went from +25 a while back to -15 in one slam.

To be honest I have no idea it is all done by the software but I do not think it is the case. Although one positive post is probably more than 1 point. I think that is where the poster got confused but I could be wrong. We are not the first site to have reputation points if you look around you will notice it, we are just the only site that people can't get over it and complain about it for months on end even the people who decide to hide their reputation.

My reputition is hidden but someone did not like my post, who was it...:huh:Just post what you know and be respectful of the members on the board and everything will work out.

+1

And, if the discussion goes off topic, especially between 2 or 3 members, please take it offline.

I am just going by what I saw happen to my reputation points. I was happily going along on the green side of life and a single reputation hit brought me way to the negative. The person that revived me back to positive I know has a rather high reputation rating and that bump brought me back even more positive than I was.

I could be wrong as I am trying to reverse engineer this system. :)

lets do a test. Aaron, how many points do you have right now?

Heck, I never even knew about it until I read this post. I thought the green balls had something to do with the # of replies you have made.

Mike, whatever you did just gave me 47 points. I had 45 now I've got 92. I'm well on my way to joining the two ball society...I feel so loved.

I also learned about the rating not too long ago. But I think it's very good to have rating system in place. Whoever is using eBay knows that their business highly depends on reputation points and the number of transactions. A simple question a buyer would ask himself "how creditable this person is, can I trust him by sending my money?". When you see a user who's very active (large number of transactions) and has 100% rating this makes me very comfortable as a buyer. On the other hand when you see a user with <10 transactions and <100% feedback I wouldn't consider the item. So, I think CSR system was intended to be similar, but I think we'll need to place some more procedures to protect the members from some funky responses (red balls for no reason).

I think that every red ball should have a valid and justified reason.

Just my .02c.

Alex.

OK, I'm relativly green arround here and trying to learn the "ropes".
If I had this turned on since the beginning, would I have seen the negative comments as they were given? (Now that I have it turned on will I see comments as they are posted?)

This seems like it could help people correct their behavior if there was immediate feedback.

Can someone help me get a better understanding?
Thanks!

Here's more data. After my whiney post I got 2 positive comments that added +78 points taking me from -7 to +71.

Thanks GARY!

The term "No rhyme or reason" does come to mind with this complete "BALL" affair.

Have a good weekend :smt038 ( I know I will) I am finally picking up the boat tomorrow and bringing it up from Daytona Beach, Florida to Jacksonville, Florida.

Will be both on the outside, Atlantic Ocean and on the inside, ICW and St Johns River
