I have looked under the FAQ and doing a search only brings one to threads where a mention has been made about green balls, yellow balls, red balls, blue balls, no balls yada, yada, so on and so forth, etc

Sooooooooooo?

Just what does it all mean?

Thanks

Are you asking what the original intent was or what it has turned into?

It appears that you have been the recipient of red balls. So I guess you are familiar with that part.

No I am not familiar with any of it, but if I were(?) I can think of more then a few (This term has to be an oxymoron) smarta33e3 I would like to rate

Hell I can see it does no good to ask a question

Ok - I'll try:

First - here are a couple of posts about the whole reputation system:

The main one from Jim which introduces the system: http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10343&highlight=reputation

A 'Should we keep it poll'..... http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10431&highlight=reputation

If you look in the upper right hand corner of any post you make you will see either red, green, gray or potentially blank. You can turn off reputation points in the UserCP and choose options. Or - you can choose to leave them on and have others on the site give you positive or negative points on any posts you make. The more points you get the more balls you get - I think we're up to Frank and Gary having 6 each. If you want to give (or take) someone's points - click on the 'balance scale' icon on the post you are about to rate and then you can give positive or negative points. Hope this helps.

You asked the question. Someone gave you negative reputation for asking (it was not me) then you turned off the display of the reputation status.

Feel free to read the threads that were linked above this post and slam me for making a joke. You will not be the first or last.

Thanks for your answer. I can now see that this system is not being used as it was originally designed, but as an amusement for some here.

Once I found it, the green ball, that is I cannot understand how it was necessary to have changed it from where I had a green item showing to a red, just for asking a question under what is called the "General Discussion" forum

Well as an aside, it was nothing directed towards you. I clicked on the closet reputation link at hand to see what it would do, as there are no really clear instructions. One vote per click is all anyone user is allowed, and one negative response by a user does not turn the ball red. At least what I have seen

It actually depends on the reputation of the person that is giving you points. If a person with a lot of points hits you with a negative it will take more points away from you. I went from +25 a while back to -15 in one slam. Luckily someone with a lot of balls took pity on me and revived me. Anyhow, I threw you a bone with what little influence I have.

Is that true?

The green and red rep points are weighted by the rank of the of the person "balancing the scale"? I wonder how that weighting works.

My oh my oh my that explains alot.

I have no regrets putting clothing over my balls. It's not decent running around naked.

OK, I'm relativly green arround here and trying to learn the "ropes".
This thread catches my eyes this morning and I spend some time trying to figure out how it works.
I turn the reputation on and see I have -7 and a red ball.
I point to the ball and "William Miller is not highly regarded in these parts"

So I read some more.... and someone says look at the scale at the top and it will tell you if there are any comments to that post.

I start looking for the posts where I did something wrong.
I didn't look at them all but did find one comment. (It seemed more like more of a suggestion about me opening up more about an issue I asked some help on.)

Is there a way to find the other 6 negative comments?
If I had this turned on since the beginning, would I have seen the negative comments as they were given? (Now that I have it turned on will I see comments as they are posted?)

This seems like it could help people correct their behavior if there was immediate feedback.

Can someone help me get a better understanding?
Thanks!

+1, it appears helpful replies lose out to sarcasm and "make fun of the poster" replies...interesting.

So am I to assume the ones with the most balls are helpful, or funny, or they just think they are funny?

Perhaps it should be changed from a reputation system to a credibility/knowledge system...is this person credible or just full of sh&^t.

That was the original intent.

Yeah, I personally have gotten fed up and tired of all of the sarcasm and clicks on here. This use to be a fun place to hang out and help folks and get help.

I will continue to try to reply with help but I think I am done posting.
