OFFICIAL 390/40 Motor Yacht Thread

Finally took possession of the boat! Had a great first weekend, but I need to replace the bulb in the masthead light. Not having much luck finding the type of bulb needed. I don't even know what brand the light is. I thought it would be listed in the parts manual, but it's not. Since it's up on the hardtop, it's not easy to just take a look at it.

I assume it's this type: https://www.amazon.com/Perko-0071DP0CLR-12-Volt-Marine-Festoon/dp/B0000AYFNC

Can any 390MY owners confirm? Also would appreciate an LED replacement recommendation.

But I want to be sure I am ready for the Labor Day weekend, so not taking any chances.

Also, is it safe to walk up on the hard top to replace the bulb? Do you just walk up the front windshield to get up there?

Thanks!
Cosmo, I can access my masthead light by opening the overhead vent hatch, then standing on the seat next to the helm and standing up in the hatch. Mine is collapsible to allow for a little less height when needed and I can access the light directly, I assume yours is the same but might be different. So, it should be possible to change the bulb without going on top, which can be done as you suggest by walking up the windshield. Once you get the old bulb(s) out and see the markings, you should be able to find an LED version. Remember the anchor light is in the same housing so you might want to change that one as well while you're at it.

My wife and I purchased a 2006 40MY in June of this year with 480 Cummins and have been enjoying it since. We purchased the boat from BE Marine on Lake Michigan and had the upper station disassembled and shipped to Jacksonville, FL where it was reassembled and now resides.

We are finding the carpet in the aft cabin on the port side of the bed getting wet and I cannot locate the source. We opened the rear window to clean when we first got it here and it leaked when we put it back in but after tightening the clamps the leak is now sealed (tested with a water hose). I am fairly confident the carpet issue is non-related to the rear window. Visually, all the porthole windows do not show any signs of leaking nor does the ceiling. I have pulled the drawer next to the bed and opened the access panel in the hanging locker and cannot find any evidence of moisture (bone dry on the fiberglass shell)..

Has anyone had a similar issue and any suggestions as to where this water could be coming from would be appreciated.

Wife and are considering an 06 40MY / cummins in Cape Coral, FL. We live in NJ. If you wouldnt mind, can you tell me the cost of shipping in your case, as well as the cost to break down and reassemble the upper helm?
We currently have an 06 40 Sundancer / Cummins. Retired and want to get back into an AC.

Thanks! I climbed up through the hatch and accessed the anchor light & masthead light.

For the record, they are Aqua Signal brand fixtures and both take a type 1157 bayonet style bulb, also called BAY15D. Not to be confused with a BA15D base. The BAY15D has bayonets that are at different heights.

The bulb I took out was 12v/25w and is available at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Signal-Bayonet-Navigation-Light/dp/B0000AXQW7

The anchor & masthead light bulbs were the same.

On a lighting related note, I checked the DC ammeter with all lights on and was drawing 26.5 amps. 11.5 fwd, 11.5 aft and 6 for bilge/cockpit (I know it doesn't add up, but whatever). I will be swapping out the halogen G4 bulbs for LEDs soon.

I swapped out like 27 of the G4 halogens with LEDs and unbelievable less heat and amp draw....

Thanks again. I have pink everywhere now. I need to check the the windshield washer. We do not plan on using the washer/dryer so I think I am going to take it out and store it. All said, I love our boat, and as you stated, the HWH is a pain and there is not much space in the engine room. Thanks again, terryk
Hi All, I just finished winterizing the fresh water system, and here is my experience. I took the cross member off, over the Washer/Dryer and my wife could get on top of it to reach the fittings on the water heater. We opened the drain outlet and relief valve and we couldn't get a drop out. It must be filled with sludge. I have an 11 gallon water water heater. Then we took the first hose on the wall marked water heater feed/ rope locker and drained the tank directly into the bilge and that worked perfect. There is a little pool of water and I should take the vac down but I'm soaking it up with towels. out of space. will continue.

I'm back. Then I put 24 gallon of antifreeze directly into the water tank

Just a mention since you are cold storing, might check for water in the windshield frame. The area of concern is the sharp corner just before the side window. Cold stored my MY last year and the frame leaks now. The welds in that area seem to hold water and may have separated ever slightly, of course water has found the invisible way in. Still trying to fix.

I replaced my lamps as well last year and the diference in heat was the same WOW... Take a look at the step lights, I changed them as well, a could had melted the carpet behind the lamp. Those halogen lamps are so hot.

Thank you. I never thought about that. I am getting shrink wrapped next week and will make sure there isn't any in there. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hey everyone! Hope you had a fabulous season on the water.

Quick question about where we can find quality parts for our MY’s? Specially, I will need to replace the sliding hatch leading from the bridge down to the main salon.

Thanks in advance.

Just acquired a 2005 390MY. Question, the system monitor does not alarm for engine low oil pressure on either engine. All the other (Low Gen oil press, Emg bilge ect) seem to work 4.0. The 2 previous owners do not remember this feature working. Both engines were removed to replace the fuel tanks by one of the previous owners. No corrosion in the connectors. Cummins says that the Monitor gets its input from the oil pressure sending unit (the gauges and smart craft oil pressure displays work fine) but has not been able to tell me where the wire coming off the sending unit branches off to the system monitor. Anyone else had this issue??

Fin, Sea Ray dealers are usually a good source. Flounder Pounder Marine (fpmarine.com) specializes in OEM parts and sometimes can provide a Sea Ray surplus part. I believe the hatch is unique and probably has had little to no demand over the years so I would be very surprised to find it anywhere. I think your best bet is to find a reputable fiberglass repair shop, hopefully close to you, which can repair the existing hatch or at least use it as a template for a new one if that is needed.

You could look at this site. If I ever learn how to post this site, I am looking for some different parts. I will just talk about 1 item that I can't begin to find. I'm looking for the fender cleat on the left top rear of the boat. It is the one that is spring loaded. Sea Ray is engraved on it. I like to stay original as much as possible. Sea Ray doesn't stock them any more. Thanks everybody. This is a great site. I have learned so much from it, and I love our boat. Terry.

Hello, we just closed on a 2006 40MY. Very excited to be in the SeaRay MY family. Looking forward to many years of fun on our new (to us) MY. Expect lots of questions as we get to know our MY. Robert

Congratulations. You are really going to like it. There is so much to learn. This is a great Forum to watch and ask questions if you need help. John

Ok, Getting organized with our new to us 40MY 2006. Have a question on Cruise Air. Two of the units in heat mode when temp has been reached the compressor cuts off but the fan continues to run on low. Is there a trick to setting up so the fan stops as well?

I believe the factory default is for the fan to always be on when the system is on. This is so there is continuous air flow over the temperature sensor which is mounted close to the compressor unless it's been moved. Without this flow there will probably be fairly wide ranges of temperatures experienced due to the difference between the space temp and the temp at the sensor. I once played around with the settings thinking I could improve on the factory settings but in truth was unhappy with the result and put things back to the defaults. I've attached a short guide to the control head settings, to do what you asked you would go to function 7 and select I. There are also a number of other settings to adjust fan speed and behavior that you might want to play with.
