OFFICIAL 390/40 Motor Yacht Thread

Moving forward with a contract on an 06 40MY QSB 425's (217 hrs). The boat is on the Potomac in VA. Looking for recommendations for a hull surveyor as well as a Cummings engine surveyor to do a complete work up, including analysis of the seawater side, oils, engine loads etc. Called Cummins in Mannassas and they said they only do sea trials, no longer doing surveys. Engine records are few so assuming that the big ticket preventive items will need to be addressed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Cruiser, I highly recommend Mike Minor, 703.929.4798. Mike just started surveying after a career as Shop Foreman at Prince William Marine, well known and recognized for Sea Ray service. Based on your new boat's location there is a good chance he's already familiar with the boat you're buying. In addition to knowing everything about Sea Rays, he's a whiz with Cummins engines as well. I used to take my boat from the Chesapeake up to Prince William every couple of years just so he could do the more complicated maintenance on the engines and give the boat a once-over.

Thank you!!!

Cruiser, I will second what alnav said. Until Mike's retirement from PWM, he was my tech doing work on my boat. He is a go to kind of guy. You cannot go wrong with him. He will provide you excellent council. You can't go wrong with Mike.

Has anyone installed Seadek on the swim platform and steps of the 390 MY? Seadek does not have the template on file.

Thanks

Fin
Fin, I am pretty sure that it was Seadek that sent me a template for a swim platform and steps on the 390. It was for a 2003 model that they had done.

Hello Everybody!

Just finished reading through the thread. We have a 2005 390 MY in our sights. We have agreed on a price with the owners and have our financing approved. Now we just need to get all the other stuff done and it's ours!

Very excited!

Survey complete.

The Galley Norcold 0061 is not working. Has power & makes noise, but not cold. Mrs. Owner said it was working the last time they were at the boat. Mr. Owner then said that he "manually" defrosted it and likely damaged it in the process.

Is this repairable damage? It looks like the newer models are noisier and not as reliable.

Any other models that will fit in that space w/o too much modification?

There are several that look like they will fit:

The fridge opening isn’t the only consideration on this boat.

Ensure whatever you buy fits through the cabin door! It’s not square and rather narrow.

Yes, I've seen that in some threads for Sun Dancers. Hoping the MY door isn't as narrow!

I think having the broker get this replaced will be a condition of the sale, even if we pay for most of it.

My dock neighbor had to remove the door of the fridge to get his new one in and old one out on his MY. However, not a SR.

We have a 2005 390 MY. Anyone know how to get the starboard speaker cover off in the salon? It is a cloth coverd board. I think i can just pull it off, but it feels like i am pulling out some screws along with the cover. No visible screws on outside. Any tips appreciated. Mike

Hi everyone, Just came upon this thread on the 390MY and finding very helpful on similar issues. This is my second season with the boat and I developed a water leak entering the aft cabin at the ceiling trim above the steps. Trying to trace but the fiberglass stair ceiling is clam-shelled to the helm mold. If there is any help would much appreciated.

Update: Answer to my own question asked on 8/7/18.

Access to wiper motor - In the salon, you can remove the speaker covers on the ceiling by gently pulling on the covers. Once removed, you have access to the speakers and the windshield wiper motor. In my case, i needed to get access to the wiper motor which was very easy with the cover removed. Wiper motor had model number on it and web site address for manufacturer which is www.amequipment.com .

Just noticed i should have replied to my original post instead of making a new post.

Whoops. Now i know.

Finally took possession of the boat! Had a great first weekend, but I need to replace the bulb in the masthead light. Not having much luck finding the type of bulb needed. I don't even know what brand the light is. I thought it would be listed in the parts manual, but it's not. Since it's up on the hardtop, it's not easy to just take a look at it.

I assume it's this type: https://www.amazon.com/Perko-0071DP0CLR-12-Volt-Marine-Festoon/dp/B0000AYFNC

Can any 390MY owners confirm? Also would appreciate an LED replacement recommendation.

But I want to be sure I am ready for the Labor Day weekend, so not taking any chances.

Also, is it safe to walk up on the hard top to replace the bulb? Do you just walk up the front windshield to get up there?

Thanks!
