I am curious if you replaced the water inlet/regulator with a higher psi? I have found I have better pressure from the pump than from a dock hose, regardless of what marina I’m at. Curious what regulator you installed if replaced (my pump is 55 psi).

When I replaced my water connection I used a Shurflo pressure regulator that was rate for 65 PSI. It was much better than the Jabasco that I previously replaced the original with. The Jabasco only lasted about 6 months. You may also have some restrictions if you have an inline filter that needs to be cleaned.

Hello all I need help understanding the differences between Garmin, Simrad and Vesselview in upgrading from my current Smartcraft SC5000

as near as I can tell, all the current MFDs support engine data but are there actually differences besides layout? What functions would I be giving up or data would I be loosing? For example I spoke to a Garmin help desk person and we went through features of the Garmin. The only thing we came up with that the Smartcraft sc5000 has currently that Garmin doesn't support is the ability to set at what speed the speedometer reading on the round helm gauge switches where it takes a reading from multiple inputs. currently there is a setting in the SC5000 so that from 0 to 15 MPH the gauge reads the signal from the paddle wheel, then above 15 MPH the gauge reads the signal from the GPS for speed.

I'm upgrading all my electronics (radar, Sonar, transducers, MFDs) but I am having trouble understanding what to do about the smartcraft.
I am leaning towards going Garmin, since Garmin offers sizes that maximize my limited helm space. Garmin has 8" and 10" screens that are the largest that will fit on my helm. if I go with Simrad or Mercury Vessel view I'd be limited to a 7" and a 9" screen.

I have Mercruiser inboards (Twin Mercruiser 2006 8.1 Horizons)
what would I be giving up in terms of engine management capabilities by going with Garmin over Vessel View or Simrad?
Also if I go with Garmin what Mercruiser module do I need to connect the engine data? …(Mercury NEMA 200 Gateway, or Vesselview Link, or both?)

    Option 1:
    Garmin
    GPSMAP 8610XSV
    GPSMAP 7408
    18XHD (radar)
    GT51M THP (transducer pair)

    Option 2:
    Simrad
    NSS9 EVO3 (with radar)
    NSS7 EVO3
Navico StructureScanHD Sonar Stainless Steel Thru-Hull Transducer (Pair) w/Y-Cable

    Option 3:
    Simrad / Vessel view
    NSS9 EVO3 (with radar)
    Vesselview 703
Navico StructureScanHD Sonar Stainless Steel Thru-Hull Transducer (Pair) w/Y-Cable

    thanks for input and suggestions!

I battled with what would fit in the dash of my 2004 340 Sundancer for awhile, finally I came to the conclusion, why squeeze it in the dash, thinking back to my previous boat ( a 1988 300 Weekender (I bought in 2008)) I had bail mounted a Garmin (4208 in 2009) on top of the Dash, always enjoyed that because I could change the display angle depending on where the sun and light glares were coming from and how I was positioned to view it. I modeled the idea a little and wound up really liking it. 1 Hole in the Dash in front of the Steering wheel and it was done. Works great. I change the angle all the time to get the best view of the screen. It looks fine ! Here's the farthest out photo I have. I can take more views of it later if you want, Just figured I'd offer this idea, as you honestly could even fit a larger display into this area than what I did if you really wanted to. The in-Dash Real Estate doesn't have to limit you if you bail mount whatever you pick. Easy to reach and control it as it closer to me too this way. This is a 7610 xsv

Anybody rented the bow rail stansions? I find it hard to believe that I can just unscrew them, put sealant in and re install the screws. Is there a bolt on the underneath side that I have to get a wrench on or something?

thanks for the suggestion. I've actually got a 12' garmin on my other boat that I've held up around the dash on the 340 and am just not happy with it in any location.

I'm committed to fitting them in the original locations.

the main question thought is how does it work for engine data?/ as a replacement for the SC5000?

I’m hoping someone responds to your question on the engine data and if possible, is it a simple harness adapter? I’m particularly interested in the Garmin possibility as last year (first season with the 340), I installed a Garmin GPSMap 942xs in the left panel of the dash. I wanted to put another Garmin to replace the Smartscan, but wasn’t ready to spend the money or the time last year. Having gone from two plotters on my last boat to only one is not how I want to leave it, especially with smaller plotters.

Door number 3 if you want full smartcraft compatibility. I did a vv502 with Axiom 9 and nmea 2000.

Sorry Eddie. Was away for a while.

I had to order a new face plate for the 9” but depending on what you have you may not need to. The 12” fit is the same spot as the previous owners 4200 series so it worked out. I didn’t customize the dash much just for resale value which does bother me. I do like the custom look but it would take a bit of cutting to make it look custom. I had original Sea Ray transducers so I had to replace those as well. If you want some picks of my set up let me know.

Thanks for the reply. Pics would be awesome!
And if you could ,transducer model # and if it all works with Smartcraft for engine data.
    Thank you so much.

I recently started hearing a "knocking" sound when my port engine is in reverse. When it's in forward there is no knocking and the transmission is shifting normal. Just that knock in reverse - any ideas what that can be? I checked transmission fluid levels and all seems normal.

Do you have the item number of the table attached to the trunk handle?

I believe that was a custom setup made from a standard table and not a Sea Ray part.
