Any idea why rpms are surging up and down on one engine without me touching the throttle?

I made the table from a common table and pipe clamps with a PVC pipe leg....

Thanks Cliffa. Guess I will do a custom fab as well and share with you guys once complete. My wife loves the paper towel holder.

Also, can you send a pic of the underside of your custom table? Interested in what your brackets and support pole look like.

IAC valve
If it is the IAC the part from amazon is 49$ that fixed my alarm. Item Number Sierra 18-7701 with gasket included. First pic is melted IAC, second is new one installed, third is the alarm code you should be seeing and hearing if your IAC is bad. I also replaced the IAC muffler which is in the throttle body. It is the little sponge in the upper fight corner of pic four. Pic five is the IAC muffler removed. Replaced both IAC mufflers with hopes the IAC on the other motor does not burn out. Did buy an extra IAC which is in the toolbox and ready. Changing the IAC is a 5 min job, the muffler is a solid 10 min per motor. Getting the spark arrestor off takes some wiggling.

How old are your exhaust manifolds?

Hello this July I purchased a new to me 2006 340 with 8.1 Horizon with Vdrives. the original owner had the boat serviced twice a year for all the annual stuff but never did the manifolds. Boat was lift kept since new on the Chesapeake Bay in Solomons Island and has 750 hours.

apart from oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and impellars there are no reciepts for any other motor work. the engines run perfect and I'd like to keep them that way.

what's the lifespan of the cast iron exhaust manifolds (not the aluminum ones)? I'd love to hear everyone's experiences with them, especially in brackish water

thanks

Need to pull and inspect manifolds, usually just one side of one motor, at least every couple of years. If you have the SS risers, they are said to be good for 20 years. Is the boat you bought a blue hull that was on a lift on the left side of a pier? I think we may have looked at it when we were shopping around for ours.

sounds like a different boat. ours is white hull that was kept at the POs house.

Yes we have the stainless elbows and cast iron manifolds. is there any specifications for inspection? measure something, tap something? or just see what you think of them? I'm assuming the stainless elbow lasts forever but not sure of the Manifold life span in brackish water. on my other raw water cooled boat, my OEM manifolds looked fine after 10 years in brackish water but the cast iron elbows were rough so I replaced them all just for piece of mind.

so from your signature your boat is same year as mine and lives is the same location. have you replaced your manifolds? when was the last time you inspected? what did they look like?

Yes - same boat/year, but with Bravo 3 drives. To inspect the manifolds/risers, will need to pull a riser (get new gasket first) and inspect. Also, can keep an eye on your psi to see if it starts going up. Pressure going up means pumping against resistance. First place to check is heat exchanger (pull off end caps) then suspect manifolds.
We have had ours for 4 seasons, so it is just time to take a hard look. Didn't get any records of when they were replaced last. I have read that the SS risers are supposed to be good for 20 years. Guess we will see in a month or so.
Are you in the Southern Maryland area? We reside in Leonardtown on Breton Bay. Keep boat at home on covered lift.

My marine mechanic was able to put a camera in there and take a bunch of pictures to determine if they were ready to get replaced

Any suggestions for replacement
Clarion XMD-1 stereo ? My stereo place perfect the CD Player plays perfect the remote and the dash works perfectly the XM radio works perfectly. I have the high-tech JL speakers and amp, I’m just missing the Bluetooth option .
I’m torn between the fact that the radio works perfect and sounds great and changing everything just for the Bluetooth any suggestions other than buying a wireless speaker to set on the DasH ?

I think you can add a blue tooth to it. My techy son was going to get me one for Christmas one year, but I opted for something else.

the PSI suggestion is great. what should the PSIs be? I'm assuming you mean the water pressure (will have to check with system view sc5000 for this stat but assume it's there).

We keep our boat in our neighborhood marina in Severna Park

We get up that way every summer. Do a loop from here around Point Lookout and up the Chesapeake and then back over 10 or days. Two other SRs,a 320 and 310 go as well. Usually go to Herrington South, Annapolis, Cambridge Hyatt, Knapps Narrows (for lunch) and Solomons. This coming summer, plans are for Annapolis (Mears), then maybe St Michael's and back to Solomons. May do Herrington for a couple days as well. We all really like it there. Usually go sometime during July after the 4th Holiday. Once we get our itinerary set, will send it to you in case you are in the area and we can meet up for a cocktail.
The PSI for your raw water system is in the c5000. You just need to go in to it and look around. There is a bunch of info in there you can get set up in your favorites to view quickly.

Just add a "real" bluetooth option that you can hard wire the power to and plug into the AUX-IN ports. I added the Fusion BT-100 my first year and never used the CD player after that. There are several great options that can be had for under $50 dollars. This is the one I added from Amazon. In fact I just removed my CD player this year and I am finishing the install of a computer to be my streaming media center (for streaming TV and locally stored (or USB connected) Videos and Music + in a pinch its still a PC so I can surf the web on it) in it's place.

Kevin the clarion XMD-1 does not have Auxiliary IN , RCA cable connectors . I believe they did not offer that until the next model up XMD-2 , they used to make a C bus to RCA adapter, so that way you would unplug the Auxiliary CD player . But I can’t find the plug adapter , I don’t think they make it anymore

I used the fusion thing that Kevin is talking about, I had to take the unit out and wire it in the back of the unit. There is an aux but it’s not on front of the unit

Sorry i would have thought they had at least an XMD-3 in a 2006. If you don't have aux-in then you are limited. The only option may be adding something like a tranzit blue to hook up to your antenna. I used one on my 260da that had an CMD unit with out aux-in.

I'll try to remember to get some pics soon...I made a couple small changes to the table over the years to make the table easier to put up and take down and to make it sturdier...
