image doesn't work...

I think I’ve got the image working now.

Thank you. It looks like it has a hex head on it. I didn’t know if it was some kind of an accessory port and haven’t been able to find it called out anywhere.

Honestly, I have a lot of random questions about the boat. Is this the best place to be asking those questions?

Also, has anyone else had to get a warranty replacement on their simrad unit? I took the boat in for the first oil change (20 hrs) last week, and let them know the unit has been sporadically rebooting, frequently, and under various operating conditions. They checked it out and said they would do a warranty replacement because they saw it reboot a handful of times while they were doing the service. Just curious if this is common and if the replacement unit will be subject to the same issue?

Is that when you are supposed to do your first oil change? I was looking the other day for when I needed to get things checked out and all I saw was 100 hours.
I haven’t had issues with my simrad but the radio messes up all the time. I simply unplug and plug in the cable and it fixes itself. That and my seat back near the walkway has three of the pins broken so it’s not afixed properly.

20 hrs is what the dealer told us when we took delivery. I found a mercruiser 4.5 manual online and it also states that run time as part of the break-in.

Ah. Ok. Well I have outboard. Probably different.

I would do a break in oil change with the outboard as well. Even if not specified by Mercury, dumbing the break in period The oil gets some metals in it and it is good to get them out of the engine. Engine manufacturers are trying to make their products have less maintenance and cheaper to maintain so they are skimping on some of these type of recommendations.

In the olden days, engine break-in oil changes were required at 10 hours no matter what type engine. Without documentation, getting warranty work was iffy. Today, Only Evinrude has eliminated this requirement.

Our Simrad didn't ever reboot, but in shallow water it wouldn't work. When I went into the setup menu I found that it was using the wrong transducer frequency (per default). When I set it to 200 KHZ it has worked OK.

Thanks for the reply on your simrad. The service guy at our dealership said they’ve seen a lot of problems with them recently.

My family is wanting me to get the 190 spx with the outboard. The boat new comes with a 115hp Pro XS.

Can you post your numbers? Top speed at WOT? Top RPM at WOT? Cruise RPM & speed?

I personally like the Yamaha jet boats and the performance but willing to make the family happy with that big sun pad in front of the OB.

Thank you.

I realize you didn't ask me, but I have good data so here it is. The Engineer in me collects lots of numbers so I can evaluate changes and of course see when maintenance is needed in the future.

No numbers for the 115. As most have done, we upgraded to the 150.

Stock from the factory after break-in.....47 mph at 5700 rpm. Jumps out of the hole like a rocket. Prop slip 12%.

Switched to a SS Enertia prop (same pitch)....50 mph at 5600 rpm. Even better rocket and from 30 mph to WOT it will give you whiplash. Prop slip 8% (!!!) Fuel usage about 10% lower than a comparable I/O.

All data is off Vesselview and GPS.

Jet boats love to suck up the fuel. If you are in weedy waters they are a PITA. Docking and maneuvering suck.

We had I/Os for 35 years. Also have a jet. Going with the 190 OB was the best move we ever made.

I’ve got a 2020 SPX 190 stern drive and have the courtesy light switch, but apparently no lights installed in the cockpit. How could I add these? Does SR sell this as an add-on kit, or is there a better aftermarket solution?
I’m sure it’d be a lot cheaper to use 12 V LED waterproof strips from amazon, but here’s the part numbers for the 17, may want to confirm they’re the same. There’s also the cup holders that are lit.
INDIRECT LIGHTING
2119899 LIGHT, LED DIFFUSED TAPE BLUE 44"
Used with SELECT PACKAGE OPTIONS
2119905 LIGHT, LED DIFFUSED MNT TRACK WHT 6' W/O ADH
Used with SELECT PACKAGE OPTIONS
2150089 HARNESS, 19/21SDX-15 INDIRECT LED LIGHTING
Used with SELECT PACKAGE OPTIONS
2157852 LIGHT, LED DIFFUSED TAPE BLUE 10"
Used with SELECT PACKAGE OPTIONS

I started the project with aftermarket leds a few years back, but never finished after moving the boat to a slip an hour away. Port side has been complete with the wiring wrapped for probably two years, lol, I should probably order the parts to finish up now that the boat is in the neighborhood.

I just pulled the back cushions and ran adhesive led waterproof tape along where the bottom was located.

edit cup holder part number
2112409 HOLDER, SS DRINK DUAL STACK BLUE LED
Used with SELECT PACKAGE OPTIONS
2065185 LIGHT, LED RAIL BLUE
(Part of 2112409)

Thank you. Good info on the SPX w the 150hp.

Re the Yamaha jet boat. The 210/212 comes w twin engines. Great feature for small sport boat and the safety feature of no propeller/outdrive and transom layout are very attractive. Yamaha has ports on the transom that if you suck up weeds you shut off the engine, reach in and clear it, or you can use the traditional reverse maneuver.
I am aware there’s a learning curve for no wake speeds and docking but the 2020&2021’s have new functionality that alleviate the learning curve.
The hole shots are almost instantaneous and the fuel consumption at cruising speeds aren’t that much more but they are more than OB and IO’s.
Fuel consumption for my use isn’t a concern. Their packages are well priced too.

For me it’ll come down to price, availability, and the quality of the dealer.

I had a buddy with a jet boat. I’m sure there have been many improvements in recent years, but far too many parts to go bad. Particularly with the impeller. I can’t imagine having twins. The simplicity of a single OB is what sold the 19SPX for me. I think your mind is already made up so good luck and keep us updated, but if you do decide on the 190 OB, then go for the 150HP.
