Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

Does anyone own a SPX 190 OB w the base 115hp mercury?

The 210 definitely will not fit in my garage. The 190 w the folding tongue trailer fits w a little Vaseline.

Wondering about performance w the 115hp?

Love the 150

;)

The distance from the top of the transom to the top bolt will always be the same. If you want to determine engine height all you need to do is look at what hole its in.

In your case, the engine is mounted in the second hole up. Furthermore, it looks like it was changed at least twice.

I don't know what the spec is for a 210, butt he factory position for a 150 on a 190 spx is the 3rd hole up.

Yes, I lowered it 2 holes. Still getting some occasional cavitation issues. Trying to figure out why. I have the OEM prop. Thinking mounting brackets could have been high to start with. That is why I am asking the distance to first mounting bolt with others, to see if they just might have been mounted to high. Just looking for a solution.

They are supposed to be mounted "high". The bolt position is always the same. It allows a full down mounting and conforms to Mercury Marine mounting template specs. The hole is the variable.

The secret to optimizing boat "performance" (i.e., speed, fuel economy, etc.) is to raise the motor incrementally and evaluate the change. For a hull like the SPX, with the engine mounted so far back, the appropriate position is even higher.

Fortunately, SeaRay has done the research for us. Contact SeaRay and they can tell you what hole it is supposed to be in for your specific model.

I see boats ventilating all too often. Its usually because of excess trim, not the mounting height. Maybe you should explain what your problem is so we can better help you diagnose it. It's more than likely you have a ventilating problem. If its true cavitation your prop is probably damaged.

Hi All,

Has anyone mounted aftermarket electronics with a stern mount transducer? Picked up a Garmin unit as mine didn't come with anything fancy. Thought about gluing a stern saver on for the transducer, but was unsure of cable routing through the hull under the swim platform. Just do it and glue it, or should I drop the extra couple hundred on the in hull transducer?

Good question and timely -- I'm considering the same thing. Bump for some input.

210 SPX owners that have the fishing setup (all sports package -- trolling motor, batteries, etc.)

Where are the two trolling motors located/installed? Anyone have any pics by chance?

Hey all...

Bimini had a run in with the garage this weekend...

Anyone know who the manufacturer is of the OEM Bimini that comes on the SPX 190OB?
All I need is the Main Bow support (Part #2165196). Marine Max wants $315 for it.

Thanks!

The bimini should have a red use and care label, and also 2 others. One identifies the fabric (sunbrella) and the other the manufacturer.

I did call them already. A Sea Ray dealer in Ohio (where the boat was originally purchased (previous owner)) told me they (Great Lakes Boat Top) were the OEM manufacturer. They are now together with Westland who made the Bimini. Westland said that I would have to go direct to Sea Ray. Then, I sent a request via email to them and got a quote back. $325 + Boxing and Freight.
Cheaper to just get through my local Marine Max. The Ohio dealer told me MSRP on it is $284.00

Your boat is still too new to be able to buy it aftermarket. You have to go through your dealer. You could check with some local shops that do canvas work and see what they would charge to fabricate the bow, if you want.

The $315 may include shipping?

I did get a full quote from the Ohio dealer. $284.00 for the part. $150 for shipping and $25 for boxing. $459 all in.
Just called Marine Max again for a full quote. $325.24 for the part. $160 for shipping. Plus tax.

These prices are crazy.

Only a straight section right by a connection point of the bow broke and the SS ball connector got a little bent. I just went to Wholesale Marine and purchased a 3' chunk of 7/8" Aluminum pole with a couple straight connectors. I'll splice in the piece to the right size, reinstall the old ball connector mount to the new aluminum pole using a rivet (same as factory connection). Might need to put a couple of ss screws through the tube and connector for tight secure fit, (maybe a little marine sealant) but hoping this will be a much more economical fix with minimal impact on performance and aesthetics. ($25 in parts with 2 day shipping)

Wish me luck. (Still beating myself up. Long day on the lake, tired and dark, but still not a good excuse )

Any other ideas I'm open ears...

Those prices are crazy. Your on the right track doing it yourself. Good luck and make sure to update your post with what you did.

You think that price is crazy? Check out the price for the whole top!

Hey, it's your boat and if it works for you - then go for it. No judgement here. I might, however, make one little suggestion for a cleaner look in the area where you are "splicing" the two pieces together. Instead of a coupling piece, get a 12" length of tubing that fits inside the main tubing (6" into each). A little bit of mild, adhesive caulk - maye a couple, small screws or rivets and it will be nearly invisible.

Trailering Question:
I just bought a 2018 SPX 190 and trailering with no cover on I saw the ice chest bench seat flapping up and down at 60mph. So I stopped and put the bow mooring cover on. I like to trailer with the cover off to help dry out the boat after a day on the water. It's also one less thing to deal with as I keep the boat in the garage, so I never need a cover. What are the tricks to trailering with no cover?

Mine did the exact same thing. The little grommet latch was torn up so they are replacing it but I have to imagine I’ll end up putting a secondary latch on it. With it up that small side cushion could possibly fly out.

Mine actually did fly out one time. The center windshield was closed but because there is no door below it to close, the air still rushes through. Luckily it didn't get hit or worse, cause an accident. I was only going 45mph at the time. That factory latch is a joke.

Yes, mine was flapping on the piano hinge with the windshield closed.
Are the mooring covers (bow and cockpit) trailerable?

My center cushion flew out - $600 or so (trailered it numerous times with no issue, but then it happened.) Now I put all the cushions in the car while trailering.
