My boat project

I got the running lights working today. I had to epoxy the lenses in to keep the sea water out.

The new cutting board for the engine cover got cut today. It looks good, but it may nee some location pins. I want it to be easy to remove so it can get cleaned well.

Trying to install the exhaust bellows.... that at bunch of fun let me say!

So we put the boat in the lake for a sea trial. The started motor seized to the flywheel. Crud! The ARCO Starter as it turns out was recalled do to a faulty armature. They were more than happy to send me a new starter at no charge. It will not be here in time for our family reunion on Hood Canal. Anyone in Washington have a spare starter for a 302 that you can lend me for a week??? Other than the incredible screaming from the starter the "pegasus" moved out fast and road well. Can wait to go fishing!

If you can't find one to borrow I'd check your local craigslist. I'm sure you can find a used AND starter that will get you by for a few weeks for next to nothing.

I know you don't want to buy a new starter but just an FYI for future NAPA sells some Merc parts usually cheaper than a marina and normally only a day or 2 turn around for special parts.

I ordered one off of Amazon with 2 day free shipping. Now they are saying it is going to take until 7/5 for it to show up. The price was 60$ free shipping for a USCG approved new starter. Sometimes with boating I geuess that it is good to listen to fait and sit it out on the dock for this trip.

I use our local NAPA often up here for marine parts too. The nearest marine store for me is 2 hours away. They get me parts next day usually, faster than on-line ordering and no shipping charges.

Napa is a full line Sierra retailer
I just asked for a catalog and they gave me one
probably because THEY didn't know how to use an actual book

Too funny - I'm usually bringing in numbers or digging through their catalog myself for the same reasons. :smt043

It is good to support your local businesses anyway I got to know the counter people, one grew up with my son and the owner we found out we have mutual friends and actually knew each other from 45 years ago so I get all their discounts. Sometimes if I rag at one of the kids enough he will give me employee pricing.

NAPA has saved my butt more than once on boat parts. Sprung a leak in the water pump on my old boat right in the middle of a tournament weekend at a port in northern Michigan (Rogers City). The NAPA in town was the only place open and they had one in stock on a Saturday evening. We were back up and running that night.

They get my business every time.

Drained the fuel tank today in preparation for installing the new aluminum tank.45 gallons of good gas. The tank is badly rusted. The epoxy coating Joe Used did not hold up well at all. The tank is toast. Disposing of it may be a challenge. Think I will rip it apart with an excavator, and burn it clean, before taking it to the metal recycler.

There looks to be enough room to add a heater run off the engine in the front of the tank. I think it will require glassing in a bulkhead. This would make a separation between the tank, and the heater. It would need to be sealed so no fumes could get into that space. This would be the perfect place for one, but having an electric motor in a limited ventilation space, adjacent to the fuel tank kinda gives me the willies. Any input. Ill take a picture and post it when I get the tank out.

Pulled out the old fuel tank last night. Rusted badly, One of the screws the holds the fuel sensor was not installed, and the tank did not have a grounding wire. I just can believe this boat did not go down with all hands in a big ball of fire. We are still wanting to head out fishing this weekend.

what type of heater are you thinking of installing? water or air? Todd installed a nice air heater and if i recall it just needed a fan at the heat exchanger. he has a thread on the install. check it out.

what a job getting that tank out good job

So I ripper the old wood hatch out today. I am going to replace it with a Taylor Made glass hatch. I could not get one that was the right size, So I will be Fiberglasing the hole to fit the hatch.
