My boat project

I am getting ready to glass in the new forward hatch. I need to color match the SRV240' sun faded gelcoat. The only thing I had in stock that was anywhere close was a gallon of Tollycrfat white. It need to be yellowed up a bit. the only yellow I have on hand is a little (4 gallons) baha action yellow. I through in a 1/2 ounce in a quart and gave it a good mix. It is scary how close it is. Ill post the pictures when I get done. I would rather be lucky than good any day!

I had a new service box installed on one of my service trucks and the paint came back darker on the box than on the cab. I asked the painter about it and he said he looked for a can of "fade" to knock down the new paint but couldn't find any. Smart A$$.

Sometime mix and match is the way to go.

I filled the hole were the old hatch was with a piece of 3/4 inch melamine board.

I filled the crack with filler putty so that I would not fill the boat up with dust and resin.

Then I ground the best tapper that I could with the area available.

8 layers of 2 oz. mat 4 inches wide with a layer of heaver weave in the center.

Lots more grinding a faring.

I cleaned it up with some acetone, and taped off the area.

Nice thick layer of color matched gelcoat, and it was time to mark out the hole for the hatch.

Finished......well it will need to be wet sanded, buffed and the trim on the inside done. There was an end missing on one of the hatch braces so I made a new one.

Wow, wish I had your know-how. Your earlier post about the fuel tank really gave me a scare, and I called
the boat repair place I had been using and let them know about it (not to nicely either). I am glad she went
to someone who knows what they are doing. This nice weather is making me want to be on the water. Guess
I will have to wait till I can afford a boat that does not need repairs or start learning some mechanics. Good work,
taking her farther than I ever could. I hope she makes a great boat for you.

Joe you are always welcome to come out with us, and you can call me for help on your next boat.

Any one wondering why an exhaust flapper valve/ shutter valve can cause overheating needs to see this. I pulled it out of my spare TRII drive. I was looking for were I needed to look for the ones on the SRV. The ones on the SRV were totally gone. I looked all day for pieces of them and nothing. I found new ones at seaway marine in West Seattle. They have a crud load of parts in there.

Thank you so much. I definitely will call you next time. I was really surprised that MotorBoat Mart did not
tell me half the things you had told me when you were looking over the boat. They lost a customer in me.
Good luck and good fishing.

The new flappers came in today. I got them installed in the down pipes. Note you can put the shutters in backwards.

I am working hard to get her all set up to go back into the lake on Sunday. Ill goes well we will launch her at point Defiance on Sunday.

I have not had it done, but a friend of mine did it last year on his 40' trojan. It was a great job.

Hit the lake today and had a good time. Next test runs will be in the salt.... dragging bait.
