My boat project

Not another owner for your boat!!!
Also, those old Johnson/Evinrude outboards are great motors. I just rebuilt an early 60's 3hp that was passed down from my grandfather and had not been run in over 25 years.

We spent the weekend fishing with the SRV. Had a good time and picked up 3 keeper silvers. Noticed that the drive growls a little when turning to the port side. I think the U-joint crosses are bad. I have a new drive that has never been run that I could put on, but that is dropping another 2500 into the boat. I guess I will have to decide when I have it off and can look at it.

bad news is that I killed my 30 year old Evinrude 6 horse kicker motor. It had about a 2 thousand hours on it and never gave me any problem. It spun a main bearing. Ill have to pick up a Honda 4 stroke to replace it. bummer.

I did get a chance to try out the new Bimini cockpit cover. It was great. Ill post a pick in the next day or to.

The wife a daughter have asked that I put the SRV back on the market. They don't like the noise from the engine, and the flybridge. They want an inboard diesel, hard top. There may be a new owner posting before long. If that happens you all have been great, and this boat will serve its new owner well. Any recommendation on a searay model that is 24 to 28 foot, Fishing/diving, trailer-able, and inboard with no flybridge? I know tall order.

The 268's are 8.5 beam, very trailerable and as I call it "chick friendly". My wife and kids loves ours. We fish it hard and yet it has good live aboard accommodations. The 270, 10ft beam would be better, but not as easily trailered.

No hard top, and they did not put diesels in them. They are also I/O's. I like my 454BB, but they made them with twin 4.3's which I wish I had.

Other than that, I don't know of Sea Rya model that meets your requirements. You may need to look at a Shamrock or Parker. Sportcraft also makes a 250 hard top with an inboard, but I don't think they have a diesel version... Good luck!

Aww bummer its been great seeing all the progress on this boat, you and the previous owner have done tons of work.

So I am the proud owner of a nice 7.5 HP Honda four stroke. Local here had it for sale and it is like new. It should do the job well.

So I found the source of growl. The gimbal bearing in the drive was shot, and the U joints looked like hell, rusty. I had some trouble getting the drive off. You can see the post on that if you like http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/54017-drive-shaft-stuck-on-a-TR-2-Drive-HELP. I have a new rebuilt drive done by KC marine in Bellingham Wa. That I will be butting back on in place of the original one. Not that there was anything wrong with the drive that was on there, but It will get me back on the water for the weekend. I believe that the culprit was, not replacing the gasket on the gimbal housing, or re-using the u-joint bellows. Either way that will be all new. I need to re-aline the drive with the motor. I am hoping that the local shop will rent me the tool for a day. Ill post some pictures and commentary on how that goes. The tool is 130$ and I don't wan't to have to buy one for the job.

Just a note: DO NOT SCREW UP THE RING THAT HOLDS THE GIMBAL BEARING INTO THE TRANY!! you can't get them, anywhere for any price. Please someone prove me wrong on this. I have one to use, but some other pour boater will be in my shoes someday, and not have the connections that I have.

[FONT=verdana, geneva, lucida, lucida grande, arial, helvetica, sans-serif]Cleaned up the gimbal housing today. Lots of scraping. burned up a bunch of dremmel bits cleaning up the nooks, and crannies. Ill never buy mercruiser etching primer again. It orange peeled the old paint, and I had to sand it off. It is all going back together nicely, but slowly. Literally like watching paint dry. Tomorrow Ill put the boots on and align the engine to the drive.

After going through my spare parts I found 2 new gimbal bearings, and a bunch of other parts I did not know I had. Any one need a rebuilt drive, tyranny, prop, gimbal housing, and transom plate let me know.

I had to build my own drive alignment tool. The local shop had theirs stolen. Mine worked great.

So it looks as if this SRV will have a new owner in the next few days. I am moving on to a 1982 26 foot Trophy with an inboard diesel. Thank you all for your support of this project. I have had a bunch of fun with working on her, and fishing with her. A friend of mine will be the new owner so I will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy her company. I will turn this blog of the boat over to him if he chooses to continue it. Thank again you all have been great!

Hey all! New to this forum and I look forward to keeping up this thread as I'm the new owner. Right now I'm putting on two Scotty Electric 1106 downriggers. Got some 1/4 aluminum backing plates yesterday for support. Pics to come soon.

Look forward to working with you all here!!

Great downrigger choice!!!

As you can see below, I'm quite fond of mine.

Have you named her?
would love to see where this boat goes.

Got the plate backing and mounts for the Scotty's installed. Looks good I think ;) Heading out today for a run and maybe some blackmouth fishin. I need to strip the wire off the downriggers and put my braided line on today. A few other bits and pieces to install too. Also need to learn the radar and FF

Soon as I figure out how to upload pics I'll do so :)

Great, would love to see some pics.

Sounds like you're missing her which is understandable when you put in that much restoration work.

I agree though - pictures would be nice

I know this is an old thread but you guys wanted to keep it going plus I have 2 srv 220s. Question.. Joe had installed a new block and valve jobs. So did the problem go away even with the crank loose?
