Luxury Cars Burning At Sea…

You don’t have to actually listen to them. You also know that the republicans will nix that program the next time they are in office. So it’s a moot point anyway.
What are you smoking? The republicans will do no such thing. The political types are using my money to push what should be a free market function. Did the government or free market build gas stations to accommodate gas powered vehicles?

What do you think of OK banning Tesla from selling in their state? Seems anti capitalism to me.
Of course it was. I’ll bet the author was offered a $10 million dollar research grant to bury it…
or perhaps it was initially funded by big oil? This is an easy game to play. Let’s assume some level of decency.

The vast majority of fire fighters have never even seen an EV fire. People are always scared of new technology. The firefighters will adapt to EVs, and in a few years, they will understand how to deal with them.

Didn't say fire, did I? Extrication involves cutting pillars, e.t.c.....

Heck of a lot of batteries in the EVs...

Assuming positive intent is never smart to do when it comes to politicians...

The batteries are never in the pillars. They are almost always mounted in the lower chassis, or under the back seat area. Of course new market, so that's a changing realm. Same with fuel lines. Need to locate those before you start cutting.

Okay, than why would you believe the initial report? Or really anything that you read? How do you go through life not believing anything?

I'm just pointing out that when you read one report that is heavily biased, than read others. The truth is almost always lying in the middle. I'm working from memory, but the biggest problem with that report, was that it overstated the effect of Nickle mining. Which was later disregarded since those types of batteries are no longer used. It is likely difficult to find, because it is simply no longer applicable.

I believe this page references the report you were referring to:
https://science.howstuffworks.com/s...r-production-waste-offset-hybrid-benefits.htm

Notice the date, there have been changes since that time to address "some" of these concerns. Notably a shift away from hybrids and nickle

I never said the batteries are in the pillars ‍♂️. If you want to sit on a bed of batteries more power to you.

What report? I'm simply saying one is a special kind of stupid if you believe politicians do things with positive intent...

I'm referencing the report that mike mentioned in regards to hybrids.

You sit on a gas tank in many cars. What's the difference? Other than you're just more comfortable with it.

I am sure I will get flamed for this, but so be it. There is no such thing as "human induced" climate change. The climate changes, and has since the beginning of time, and we are just along for the ride. "Fossil" fuel does does not come from decayed trees, plants or dinosaurs and is not finite, at least not for generations. Most of the carbon stores on the planet are in the core of the earth and the magma, huh. EVs are absurdly expensive, and absent government action would be unaffordable. I find them impractical. Nothing makes me happier than a pissed off Prius driver. Why would I pay $100K for a Tesla that has basically 0 luxury when I can get a luxury car for half of that?

Flame on.

YES! 100% agree.

Yep. We have been coming out of an ice age for what, 250,000 years?

I'll bite, but I don't mean this as a flame, rather a discussion where I can learn.

I currently drive a Wrangler, so I don't really know much about luxury, or to be frank, don't really give a shit about it either. But what do you consider luxury? The most luxurious vehicle I've ever owned was a Toyota 4Runner, nice vehicle, but maintenance costs were stupid on it.

Where does fossil fuel come from?

with your carbon store comment, are you implying that burning fossil fuels does not release carbon into the atmosphere?

What would the price of gas be without government intervention?

Why do you correlate an EV with climate change?

I agree also! Except, some fossil fuels do indeed come from "decayed trees, plants or dinosaurs"... like coal and natural gas. Not sure about oil.

Loves this bit.

Anyway, still sux those cars are gone....

Acura, Lexus, Volvo etc. The most luxurious vehicle I've ever owned was a Toyota 4Runner, nice vehicle, but maintenance costs were stupid on it.

Where does fossil fuel come from? Well I know this, a bunch of dinosaurs didn't get together to die under the gulf of Mexico. Is it not possible that it is the result of a chemical reaction between the inner and outer core and the mantle? It's not in my wheelhouse but just as plausible as decaying plants and animals.

with your carbon store comment, are you implying that burning fossil fuels does not release carbon into the atmosphere? My point was that there is a giant store of carbon in the center of the earth, is it possible that is the source of fossil fuels. I know that burning fuel releases carbon into the atmosphere. I don't believe that if we quit burning it tomorrow it would have much, if any impact on the planet's temperature (I guess that makes me a science denier, but I don't consider it "settled science".)

What would the price of gas be without government intervention? About the price when Trump was in office and he removed the onerous regulations

Why do you correlate an EV with climate change?
That's the excuse most often used to justify the need to adopt them.

Most of my responses are imbedded in jmauld's post, so you'll have to expand it.
