LI Rendezvous - 2012

I would like to join this one, too. When do you think you'll need final count in? Unfortunately, I suspect my boating season this summer will be severly trumped by taking my daughter on a college recruiting tour.... bitter sweet, unless I can convice her to only visit colleges accessible by the water. I won't know until much closer to that time.

Thanks,

Agree Alex...I was just saying there is one in liberty landing so why not add a little distance for the second one so new people will feel comfortable in their boats.....I am good anywhere..

Chuck,

If you up for the event I would put myself on the list considering that a marina we're about to choose will have reasonable refund policy. It's a lot better to call 3-4 days before the event to cancel than be told that you have no spot or will be 3 pears away from everyone. The primary goal of advanced planning is to have formed group with reserved slips. Not to mention that for those who's using these events as part of their vacation time it's much better to submit for vacation approvals much in advance. See what works for you and let me know if you wish to be added to the list of participants.

I think we're on the same page, John. We had several families in previous rendezvous that are just getting to know the cruising life, so I'm always ready to do what's necessary to add comfort to their experience.

Thanks Alex, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't hindering your plan at all... so add me to the list (I guess rcmafgny and I will be the dinghies in the crowd :( )

... Conanicut sounds good, with a boat taxi to Newport. .....

Russ, I just googled Conanicut Island, great location, but I'm positive that we'll loose 90% of or LI participants. It's about 50-55 miles from Montauk.

Ok guys, here's a quick summary of proposed choices I've heard so far (let me know if I missed any):

1. Montauk Yacht Club
2. Champlins at Block Island
3. Mitchell Park Marina in Greenport
4. American Wharf in Norwich
5. Essex Island Marina
6. Saybrook Point
7. Conanicut in Jamestown

If anyone has other thoughts don't hesitate to post them.

I'm attaching the map with marinas listed above to help us pick the best location that works for majority.

I hope Todd didn't take it the wrong way. It was just a good timing on his part to open himself up for some joking comments. Todd, we were only joking and I think you know that.

Alex,
It's all good man!! I know that you're kidding!!

Todd, does it mean that you're in?

Yes Alex, Pencil me in.

Great comments, guys. A mutual contribution is how we get things done. If we can outline 3-4 good candidates we should do a poll. My personal preference is to go some place new, but I'll go any place that provides good comfort for the group.

IMO, this is a showstopper, unless they will put us some place else.

Alex,
I am in agreement here. I don't want my boat rocking unless I'm the one causing it!! LOL

That would definitely knock me out. We haven't done much cruising yet and that would be a tough sell to the wife since we are toting 3 little ones along.

All are good by me...is it spring commissioning time yet?

Excellent, I got you on the list, Todd.

I totally understand and I personally don't think it's a good idea to pick something so far from LI. But, if you can make it to Montauk you can also make it to Block (if it gets most votes), right?

Marina that rocks won't get my vote either. I've traveled with another family where the wife can't take the rocking too well. Trust me it's not cool, I'm sure most of you agree and might have experienced the same.

...is it spring commissioning time yet?

I feel like I can smell it in the air....

Hey Alex,

Please add me to the list... As far as the destination, I've also heard that Saybrook can be very rocky. I think Greenport is a good location but for family's with young children, there isn't a pool. They do have nice floating docks. The up side is you are right in town....Personally, I think Essex Island Marina and Montauk are the best choices for a group gathering. Chaplains is another good choice and probably my # 1 as this will probably be the start of my vacation. I'm with whatever you guys decide.......cause it's all good for me.....

Alex,
My vote is for Montauk!! Since it is the "Long Island Rendevous" it should probably be on Long Island!!

I am going to try and do Block Island too. Maybe those of us who are going to do both should try and coordinate now? We could do it before or after Montauk, however it fits into everyones plans. Just my 2 cents!

Hi Dave & Steve!! I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. I'm even going to bring my boat this time!!!
I can't wait to show my wife your beautiful boats!! Who knows.......maybe I can get her wheels spinning a little!:smt001
