Late 90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Has anyone removed the bolsters in the forward berth? I am thinking about removing them and substituting a shelf or something for them to gain a bit of space and functionality. However, I can't figure out how to get them off. The usual tricks aren't letting me find any screws. My next step will be to contact SeaRay if no one here knows. Thanks.

I removed the v berth bolsters in my wide body 270. It added much more sleeping area and we always have it set up as a bed and never as a dinette. I used some foam and vinyl to cover the mounting lip that goes around the v berth. It worked really well for us. Yes there are hidden screws between the folds of the bolsters.

I will look harder then. There is a lot of wasted space with that bolster. And if you want to sit up there, you can invest in some pillows.

I believe all of the screws are on the top and screw down vertically.

Hmmmm. . . That could be a problem. My bolsters haveverylittle padding on top, and none of the folds and creases. I will look again tomorrow for the screws.

I have a 2001 SR 270 with a 7.4L Mercruiser MPI. I've been looking for an accurate chart describing what the alarm beeps mean. I have noticed mine beeps twice when I first turn on the ignition. Not sure if that is normal? There are no beeps beyond the initial turn of the key
Thank you!

Ok, I found the screws. There are two screws, on on each end of the bolster. I have attached some pics to help the next person along:

This pic shows the starboard and forward bolsters in their normal positions:

This pic shows the small hole where the screw is located. It is not much more than a slit in between the two bolsters:

You then have to poke around inside the hole until you make contact with the screw. You then have to get the screwdriver to engage until you can start to back the screw out:

Here is the location on the aft end of the bolster:

This picture shows the bolster off and the little shelf that it sits on and is screwed into:

I hope this helps the next person. Does anyone have pictures on what has been done to dress this up once the bolsters are removed? Thanks.

Not to monopolize the thread, but has anyone rebedded the bow rail? I had that on my list to do this spring, as my boat is 16 now, but I am trying to figure out how to get to the last stanchion, and it seems like a major PITA. While I am all for preventative maintenance, this may be a major undertaking. The best I can determine is that I will have to disassemble a great deal of the cabin to get to the bolts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When the key is turned to the on position, you will hear 2 beeps indicating the self test from the engine computer is good, the fuel pumps should spin up too, then shut down. The other beeps while the engine is running could be overheating, low drive fluid or low power voltage at the engine computer. I have experienced all of these with successful repairs.

I'm looking to rig some sort of box or Rubbermaid on the swim step to carry a standard propane tank and jet cooker. This would be something temporary that I only put on for extended trips where I want to have my crab cooker with us. Anyone ever done something like this? Any advice? Any pictures of successful setups? My initial thought is just a big Rubbermaid with some bungee cords and a ratchet strap or two.

If you plan to do this often get a cooler to use as a box and the tie down kit. That would hold it securely.

Seems like a good option, but I doubt the propane tank would fit in the cooler, would it? It looks like there are four independent brackets, wonder if you can just mount those to accommodate a Rubbermaid instead.

I'd probably only do this for three or four trips a year, so not sure I want to have permanent fixtures on the swim platform. But as you said, it would certainly hold it securely.

You are planning to take a 20lbs cylinder? Get a 5lbs cylinder to make it easier and safer.

I am thinking of flush mounting a new chartplotter. Has anyone done this and re-arranged the gauges to allow for a chartplotter in the middle? I only have a single engine, so I should be able to get them all to fit. It'd be very interesting to see someone else doing this for the 270.

With the preface that my boat is different than yours, I decided against flush mount and have been glad I did because I do change the angle frequently depending upon the sun which gives me much better visibility of the chart plotter. I would hate to have only one angle to be able to see the chart plotter from after having had it for a few years.

I have a Lowrance HDS5 in the dash and it works out very well. Would have liked a larger screen but it does do the job. I can't seem to upload a pic but if you send me a private message I can email you a pic
