Late 90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Cannot locate an email on your profile page so I'll post some pics here. Sorry if some of the pics aren't in the correct orientation! Couldn't get them all in the right direction! As I am sure you know there's a ton of patterns and color variations you can choose from on Seadek's website.

wow that looks great!! Like the pattern - so much differnt than every thing else out there.

Thanks and hopefully you can get something that works out for you. I had nothing on the floor when I got the boat, a drop or 2 of liquid got on the floor and it turned in to an ice rink.....very slippery!

We put down Aquamarine decking last season and it was a breeze. The late 90s 270da's came from different factories which means the engine hatch lift and posts for the back seat are all in different positions depending on which factory made it, so they'll send you mylar templates that are pre-cut, so you can lay them out, and adjust the position of the seat feet, engine hatch lift, and the table mount. But thats about it. TBD on longevity and how long the Aquamarine holds up, but i went the whole 9 yards with acetone cleaning, 3m Primer, and then put down the decking and used a roller

Anyone come up with additional subwoofer locations besides below the helm speaker? I don’t want to lose my under seat cabinet door either.

Have a 10" sub down near the floor. Upgrading to a 12" in the next few days. 10 fits with more than enough room, 12 will also fit, just have to enlarge existing hole.

Hello! First time boat owner here. Last week purchased a 2001 Sundacer 270 with 320 hours on engine. Boat has been neglected and needs good TLC. First order of business, cleaning the interior as it has very unpleasant musty smell. Second, clean dirty engine bay and bilge. Then fix various broken items around the boat.

Bimini top is worn and torn and needs to be replaced. I am having a really hard time though finding a replacement top for this specific boat for sale online. The tag on the top says Sunbrella. I also want to add an extension behind the bimini top for additional sun shade. Boat has mounting brackets for the frame for the rear top. Would really appreciate guidance where I can find replacement bimini top and the frame to install bimini extension. Trying to avoid for now going to a custom upholstery shop as that may be a lot more expensive.

Great Lakes Canvas. They say they cant guarantee fit. I took the chance and the fit was fine.

@KevinC does a lot of canvas work, and has a relationship with Great Lakes. He could probably tell you if GLC is able to supply a replacement.

My inlaws have the 98 version of your boat with the same layout. IICR, the standard was the bimini top, which you have, plus a fastback cover. My thought is that if there was an extension to the bimini or a camper canvas it most likely was something custom made and therefore not available from GLC. You would therefore need to go custom for an extension. But check with Kevin or GLC first.

I'll note that if you go the custom route you are able to have some additional work done that's very useful, such as adding zipper "smilies" or "frownies" to the front windows. These are exceptionally useful to allow partially opening the window (frownies), or open it all the way without removing the panel. I had these put in on my inlaw's boat and my old Sea Ray needed new canvas and it was well worth the $100 per window.

Also, try 2 things for the musty smell.

Get some large capacity buckets of Damp Rid to remove humidity.

Then get some tea tree oil gel. It's expensive, but works very well to kill odors. There is a spray that has a more immediate effect as well.

@b_arrington - thanks for the tag!

@ladzio, for a 2001 270 Sundancer we "should" be able to get factory replacement canvas. I would need the HIN to verify. The best way to follow up is to send me your info via our request form on our website www.covemarine.com. The only issues would be if this is a boat that was built in the Arizona plant. Once I receive your request I will be help you determine the proper way to proceed.

Thank you all for sharing good advice. Tomorrow will use steam cleaner to clean carpet and other surfaces in the cabin which I hope will help rid of smell. Also, bought SEM Marine M25093 Mystic White spray paint and prep supplies to redye all seats in the cockpit. They are in a rough shape, some are torn, but at least seats will regain presentable look until I reupholster some of them next year.

Kevin, I submitted a request form, thank you for looking into this.

A separate issue I have been unable to resolve. There is a sound system in the cabin (Kenwood DIN unit), and a separate sound system in the cockpit (round Clarion unit in the instrument cluster). Neither powers on. I can hear though the Kenwood unit make noise when I press eject CD button, but otherwise its screen does not lit up, nonresponsive to power button on the face of the unit. Same for Clarion, unresponsive to power button on the face of unit; the Stereo breaker in the aft ports side cabinet is ON. The boat surveyor also could not get them to turn on. Have not been able to get a response from prior boat owner whether those still worked or are toast. Am I overlooking a breaker or some magic switch that feed power to these sound systems?

Figured out audio mystery by chance. Radio gets power when you turn ignition key into "ACCESSORY ON" position. The remote on instrument panel appears to be a remnant of original factory audio system that was bypassed after a new unit was installed in cabin.

Presently tracking down various water leaks due to carpet in cabin getting wet after heavy rain: some water getting through port windows and main hatch window, some getting though cabin door and even cabin door lock. Plan is to replace porthole window black seals, possibly re-seal frames. Bilge area where sump box is located is getting water too. There appears to be a stream of water flowing from starboard side wall, possibly from the direction where hose goes, one that connects to sump to pump water overboard. Considering adding a small pump into that bilge area along with a new sump box (and have extra small pump route water into sump box, for sump box pump then to pump it out. But certainly need to figure out if Ok to run both pumps off same wiring and fuse.

Here are photos of a new bimini top and camper top ordered through @KevinC . My boat is Arizona built so fitment was not guaranteed, but happy to report I am happy with the fit.

Curious if you are willing to share the cost of the new setup. I replaced my cockpit cover last year and went with a different color than my bimini. Have never had the bimini on the boat since I purchased it, but would be nice to have them matching if I ever decide to put it on.
